“Blue Marlin Divers”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2010

I spent several days diving with Blue Marlin Divers on Gili Air and found the entire experience to be first rate. They handled my transfers from Mataram to Gili Air and arranged for my accommodations. The diving was excellent, the staff was great, the accommodations were more than adequate, and the choice of nearby restaurants was very good and quite reasonable as well. There was quite a mix of divers from Europe, USA, Australasia, and there was staff able to assist in virtually all languages as far as I could tell. I look forward to going back one day. You will not believe the views out to Mt. Rinjani on Lombok in the morning. Only negative, and it is a pretty minor one, showers are kind of briny as there is no freshwater available on the Island other than bottled water. You adapt pretty quickly though and it should not deter you from enjoying Blue Marlin if you get the chance.

“A friendly and professional dive experience conducted with relaxed competence.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2010

On arriving Gili Air my partner and I found Blue Marlin Dive Shop and the adjoining Kaluku Cottages. The manager at Blue Marlin was welcoming and informative regarding the dive shop and Kaluku without doing any hard sell. Liking the ease of staying right next door to the dive shop and the simple but comfortable set up of Kaluku, we decided to stay there rather than our original choice. After a day or two we extended our stay up to nine nights.
Gili Air itself is a laid-back place, with no motorised transport on land. The only motorised transport is the boat traffic. Blue Marlin dive had the same welcoming and relaxed atmosphere, with a competent and professional approach to the dive experience. We had been diving in Bali previously and found Blue Marlin to be the more professional group in their approach to gear-set up and checking, dive briefing, and general assistance. The local guides knew their area well and were helpful and friendly, thanks Anto and the others.
We are Open Water certified and heard about Adventure Dives for the first time from Chris, the Blue Marlin manager. We took the Peak Buoyancy, Deep Water and Night Dives with Steve, one of the instructors at the shop. We were fortunate in having instruction for just the two of us. The policy of the shop is to have no more than four per instructor, much preferable to our Melbourne learning experience.
Learning with such thorough individual attention in the relaxed atmosphere of warm waters, the beauty and interest of tropical coral and fish, and the friendliness of the dive crew made this experience an absolute highlight of our holiday.

We would recommend Blue Marlin, Gili Air, as a great place to go to begin diving or extend your learning.

Our age group early 50's: would recommend Blue Marlin to anyone.

“Great diving, and a great shop”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 20, 2010

A friend and I took advantage of Blue Marlin's dive and stay package, which included 2 night's lodging and one day of 3 dives. We weren't dissapointed.
The lodging was immediately adjacent to the dive shop, and was in the form of a cute little "traditional hut" with a modern twist. Glass patio doors opened to a high-ceilinged room with a queen bed and tv inside. The room had a/c, and was comfortable. A back sliding door opened to our "bathroom" which was in the rear patio. The toilet and sink were covered by the thatched roof of the "hut" and the shower was in the garden (enclosed by a high wall, but open sky above). The shower had hot and cold water, and though it was salty, it was refreshing after a day of diving or traveling. Being outside took some getting used to, but was definitely a great experience.

The dive shop staff was great. We arrived from Bali via fastboat in the late morning, and per our request, we were on the 2 pm dive trip. We included a night dive that same day as well. The shop gave us a discount on our dives that were not included in the dive and stay package, as well as discounted gear rental. The really knew the dive spots and were excellent about pointing things out. The wildlife in this area is amazing. In 5 dives we saw shark, rays, many turtles and octopi, crabs, eels, and fish of every kind. Truly some great diving.
One great thing about Gili Air is that there are no motor vehicles, and the island is small enough to run around (as we saw many people doing). Horse carts are the way to get your luggage to your accommodations.

“Fab dive centre”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2010

We have just done our AOW and nitrox courses at Blue Marlin, and were very impressed by the company. The owner is actively involved in the business and actually taught us our nitrox course. The local instructors are fantastic, and know the area off the back of their hands. The Japanese wreck dive was a great experience. I would highly recommend this company.

“A great spot to learn to dive”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2010

Blue Marlin offer a full range of Padi dive courses right from fun dives, beginner and advanced Open Water courses right through to Tri-Mix, Rescue Diving and more.

They also have a bar/restaurant with a pool and accomodation.

I completed my Open Water course here which only took two days since I had already completed all the theory online using Padi's e-learning modules.

Since I was there in low season there was no one else in my group so I ended up getting one on one training from the instructor. This was both good and bad because whilst the training was more focused because of small class size, I think it would have been more of a social experience if there were more people.

The instructors there share a passion for diving which is reflected in their safe and professional approach to training new divers. The equipment was also well looked after in good condition.

Diving around the Gili's is amazing. The water clarity is unreal with visibility over 30 metres and a water temperature of around 28 degrees Celcius. Loads of marine life including coral, turtles, stingrays, various tropical fish and the odd (harmless) shark.

I highly recommend using this dive school to dive the Gili's and cannot wait to go back.
