Nice / Good location / close to beach / satisfactory breakfast.. only minor problem aircon was the best, but room also had fan which helped................................

Clean hotel for the price, would recommend, but plenty of accommodation on the Island - keep that in mind...

We stayed for one night in October in a family suite. For starters, the owner Sam offered to organise transfers from Lombok airport to the villa - yes we realised his rate was over the top to what we could have got it for had we just arrived at the airport and liaised with all the touts/taxi drivers clustered there but we knew we were pushed for time and thought this would be fastest. Firstly there was no driver. We phoned Sam and he said 'the dirver is on his way, he's running late". 15 minutes later we phoned Sam again and he said "the dirver is there, he just can't see you" As we were the only family still left standing, that was a bit odd. 15 minutes later we phoned again and he advised he was using a new driver who had forgotten to go. This turned into "oops I forgot to arrange it" so we organised a local taxi driver to take us to the boat point. He did manage to organise a boat for us to get over to Gili T. A pretty inauspicious start. The boat couldn't land on the beachfront as promised, so we landed on the pier and turned right and walked along the beach on a track the short distance to Samba Villa. The track divides the beachfrom from the accommodation, so that on your right are restaurants and the beack, and on your left are the accommodation options. We arrived at Samba and noticed a "pool closed for maintenance' sign, which we were assured was for an hour only. It wasn't; it remained in place and the pool closed with no explanation for the duration of our stay. Sam apologised for the mix up with transfers and made us a fresh juice, then took us to our villa. We were underwhelmed with the grounds - largely sandy soil with brick-edged cactus gardens. The villa was half of a building, with another villa sharing the roof. And it was stinking hot. He turned on the aircond and a large air coooler, both of which seemed ineffective even when running for over four hours. I have to say the bathroom was lovely - open air and roomy. The beds - a double and two singles - were nice. It was clean. We headed to the beach which was nice and white with a good swimming area accessed through a channel through the rocks out to a lovely patch of blue. We ate on the beach in one of the many beachside restaurants, and the food was ordinary to say the least. Our stay happened to coincide with the religious feast of Eid-Al-Adha, where a muezzin chanted from 3.30pm until midnight, seemingly broadcast all over the island - it was loud and could be heard everywhere, particular inside our unit and very clearly in the bathroom. We even could hear it underwater while snorkelling (we hired snorkels etc very cheaply from the beachfront). Please know that we are not disrespectful of other cultures' religious festivals, it was just a very unexpected event for us! That evening, every restaurant on the island (if open) was in skeleton-staff mode, due to them all attending the festival, and service was lacklustre, as was the food. The chanting ceased at midnight and we nearly got some sleep, but the airconditioner fused just on midnight. We headed up to reception and someone came and thumped something and it started again, but we soon realised it was just blowing air, not cold air, and failed to restart. Nobody cared at that stage, not the resort staff and finally not even us. We gave up! To make it worse, the people in the other half of our villa came out also during the failure, but they said they were freeeezing cold in their half of the villa. Then very early in the morning the chanting resumed - again please note we are not being disrespectful of this custom or the religious holiday, we are just including the notes in this review so that others can be forewarned of such occurrences. We gave up on sleep and headed out to the beach for a swim and breakfast, which was included and was nice. We swam until time for our transfers back to Lombok airport, which went smoothly. Would we stay again at Samba? No. Am I glad we went? Yes. Would we visit Gili T again? No - it is quite an adventure getting there, but to us it wasn't worth it in the end. Purely because it's just a beach and snorkelling and while I can definitely see it's appeal for those who are not fortunate enough to live on fantastic white beaches with great activites on your doorstep, for us it was just an experience...

Room Tip: Check that the pool will be open and dont let them organise your transfers.

Who ever issued the trip advisor certificate, this hotel needs re-audit. Location is good, far from party crowd, close to the beach. Facility is ok but not satisfactory: dark bathroom with only one light on, sticky room floor, rusted water boiler in the family room (guests, check it thoroughly before using it).

The worse side was the lacked of hospitality attitude of the reception staff named Ank. When I and my two teenager kids checked in, he forced us to use bigger thus more expensive room, saying that was the only room available (we did make a reservation in advance but apparently was not registered in their system). After I strongly made a complaint to them, they gave us the same type of room thanks to the Marketing Manager who came in the middle of objections to give us back the room we ordered with an extra bed, which I have expected to happen (and a common practice in most hotel around the world). The point was, Ank tried to make more money with cheap and discriminative attitude. He could have offered us an extra bed (if that's the case) at the very beginning when we checked in and not going around insisting us renting a bigger room.

The issue was not about money as we ended up adding another rooms that goes with a living room for our guests who joined us later (and turned out to be cheaper than our own room. Go figure!) but the overall attitude was so detrimental to the industry he works in.

Thanks but no thanks; I take off this hotel from my list, ever.

We had the best time ever staying at Samba Villas. The staff are so friendly & helpful.
They are right on the beach. You wake up, walk to the beach (takes less than a minute) to a sun lounger or bean bag where you get the delicious complimentary breakfast (best jaffles ever!!), lie in the sun, swim whilst the staff bring you drinks & food.
We stayed in the family villa for 2 nights then moved to the new family units by the pools which were also very impressive.
Sam the owner was lovely, he offered to host my cousins 21st party in July with a party by the pool & also to DJ.
Will definitely stay there again!!!

Amenities wise the hotel is average, air-conditioning works from time to time and the power died periodically at night. The lights in the room and the toilet feel a little dim. The bed is fine and barring any power outages the experience was pleasant. The central room lacked air-conditioning and only had a fan, which was uncomfortable on warmer evenings.

In terms of location, Samba Villas is in an excellent place. Right on the beachside, near some eateries and places to rent snorkels and fins, check in and change into your swimwear, then dash outside, rent snorkels and hit the ocean. Not more than 15m out you start seeing some beautiful wildlife. Moray Eels, Crabs and the occasional turtle await you. Great stay!

Samba villas has very nice location. But the overall attitude in this hotel is not good. We had problems with aircondition and it wasnt corrected during our stay. There were only one small closet in the room, its not enough at all. Gili T is a wonderful place but do not choose Samba Villas. The mosque is really near and the noise from there was unforgettable. And breakfast was poor. There are lots of better places to stay.

Great hotel, great location - there really were sea turtles just off the beach, great staff and a fantastically relaxed ambiance. We stayed an extra night and loved the snorkelling. It was definitely a great spot for the family as it was just close enough to the busy area to walk there, but we weren't surrounded by party people. We spent many a happy hour in the beach shelters, having breakfast, drinking Bintang, and going into the sea to snorkel. The best thing we took for that were the $7.50 reef shoes we bought for the trip, as the coral in the water is quite sharp and it was much easier to go in and out with those on our feet... ok, they didn't look cool... but comfort is king!!
