We felt welcome from the moment we arrived. Nice clean, spacious room with fan and airco plus veranda with bench outside, beautiful outdoor shower with even hot water most of the times. No sea view from our 'villa' but nice green and quite just steps away from the beach and the main path.
Simple but nice breakfast with choice of bacon and eggs or fresh fruit and muesli etc.
Every morning warm greetings by name from all the staff, who took care of us very well during our 6 day stay with special regards to Rudy :)
A number of relax - and deck chairs on the beach just in front of Bale Sampan. Nice beach and able so swim right in front (some other parts along the island the water can be shallow or with lots of stones/coral ). Fresh water shower available next to the small swimmingpool, the pool we actually never used as preferred the sea.

Service, atmosphere, staff, food, accommodation, hygiene all good!

Definitely a place i would like to recommend.

Great place to stay! The rooms were clean, the staff was incredibly friendly, and the location was perfect. The hotel is within close proximity of nightlife and the good restaurants, but quiet enough to make our stay relaxing.

We stayed as part of a group of twelve for a fiftieth birthday celebration, and really couldn't have asked for more. This is my favourite spot on the island - right on a nice stretch of beach that always seems to get a breeze! Plenty of restaurants and bars nearby, but still nice and quiet at night. The rooms were comfortable with good quality linen and plenty of storage. I had a seaview room, but would have been just as happy with a garden room - they all looked pretty nice to me! Surprisingly good water pressure in the shower ... and enough hot water. The rooms have no fridge but you can use the one in the kitchen area. Breakfast was delicious, and it was a pleasure to be served every morning by the lovely Marianna. The staff cooked a fabulous meal for us on the beach on our last night - so much delicious food! Marianna and Rudy can help you with anything you need in about ten seconds flat - actually all the staff are super helpful and friendly. The bar and restaurant two doors down serves great food and quality cocktails, unlike a lot of bars in the Central area further south. I loved Bale Sampan and all the gorgeous staff. A great place to stay, especially as part of a group. Perfect for kids too.

We arrived on Gili Trawangan with the intent of staying one or two nights and then heading over to one of the other Gili islands. We ended up staying three nights at Bale Sampan and wished we had even more time. Marianna was an exceptional hostess, arranging everything that we needed and with a smile. We stayed in both a seaview room and also the other rooms - the seaview was slightly more expensive but to be honest we preferred the rooms down the path - a bit more privacy and we preferred the layout (seemed more spacious). Rooms were clean, comfy beds, nice linen, and nice hot freshwater showers.

Breakfast was delicious - the best we had other than our last couple nights at Lombok Lodge of course! The real bacon was a winner - so good!

We also did a day of diving with the shop next door (now I can't remember the name?!) but Marianna can introduce you - they were really good guys, and they previously worked with some of the larger outfits on GT so they are very experienced and had high safety standards. We also enjoy diving with smaller groups rather than going out on a boat with 10-20 divers so it was perfect for us. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We actually preferred being back down the pathway rather than the seaview rooms - a bit cheaper and...

We stayed for seven nights with our three kids and it was beautiful. The hotel is lovely but it is the staff that make it special. Mariana, Rudy, Yudi and the rest of the staff are just so lovely. They are happy to chat if you feel like company but they are never intrusive. Our seven year old enjoyed playing soccer with the guys out the front of the hotel and all three still talk about Mariana. In fact half of our photos from Gili T are of our children with the staff! I think Bale Sampan is the sort of hotel that is greater than the sum of its parts, each aspect of the hotel is lovely but when put together it creates something unique and special. It was very hard to leave!

Room Tip: We stayed in the family unit and it was great. You can hear the mosque sometimes (but it's not i...

I stayed at Bale Sampan for 3 nights in Sep 2011.
I had pre booked online and the english manager was hugely efficient helping with booking ferries etc.
However we were a little disappointed with our room. Firstly we paid a marginal premium for a 'seaview' room. well there is no sea view. You are set back with large plants, a pool, road and more trees before the sea. you can see it but it is far away and hardly what I would call seaview. Very misleading and cheeky.
The room itself was small. It had big cupboards (they were so dark it was hard to see) but not much space generally. Also the room was dark - suprising on such a sunny place but even with all curtains open it didn't quite light up. Being 'seaview' also meant it was very open and not private so people walking past. probably would have been better staying in other rooms at back. The bed was the biggest issue - so soft and hugely loud. you could not move a cm without hearing awful squeeking. not relaxing at all. Linen was good and luxury though. The out door bathroom was nice but basic. Good shower but we worried about security as it meant room was open to anyone all day when you were out.
The staff however were great. Rudy and the lady there were charming and so helpful. just a shame the room let it down. they helped us with trips, bikes etc.
Breakfast was also very good. delicious american bacon!
It just needs to work on the basics.

Room Tip: Dont bother with supposed 'seaview' - you cant see anything and they are not private.

We had spent a few weeks travelling Bali, Lombok and Flores and decided to head to the Gilis to leave our bags in one place and chill for a week. Bale Sampan is definitely the place to do this on Gili T.

We stayed in the poolside bungalow which was quite above our budget, but we loved the porch with the daybed and spent a lot of time hopping from sea to pool to bungalow and back. We had the chance to move to a garden view which was cheaper, but we decided to keep the seaview as it was so nice having the porch with a view.

The atmosphere is genuinely chilled and very friendly - Rudy and team are excellent and very sweet - they run a tight ship with all doing the cooking, cleaning, laundry as well as finding enough time for a chat or to help with booking tickets (make sure you get a receipt/ticket though as we had slight problems getting on to our boat to Bali - prob from the boat people's side but you always need the paper to prove you've paid!)

Snorkelling right in front of the hotel is excellent - not so good the further south you go (to the right)- we saw huge turtles and would recommend going in the morning when tide is high as you have to swim over low grasses and coral although much of it is dead. The beach-front has sunbeds and parasols and a bit of shade from the trees. People from the youth hostel next door did often take up the sunbeds so worth asking people if they are staying at the hotel if no beds available. Try the ham and emmental baguettes after a hard morning sunbathing - guiltily ordered but sooo good after a month of rice. We ended up staying a week as we kept extending even though we felt that Gili T is not the most relaxing place - some evenings, we found the atmosphere not that friendly walking around the main strip. However, Bale Sampan was a truly relaxing and comfortable base. And the bars and restaurants further north (especially the wooden bar past the little glass shop on the beach) were exactly the kind of vibe we were looking for from the island - fun, genuinely friendly and super chilled!

Room Tip: Room 1 and 2 face the sea. While rooms are identical, the sea facing porches are really lovely to ha...
