First of all, I would avoid the Gilis altogether if you care about nice beaches. It is not the remote beach island utopia it is meant to be. The beaches are covered in trash and dead coral. This was really disappointing. We wished we had skipped this portion of our trip.
The hotel was under construction while we were there, and there was no "front desk" or "reception" area. So, if you needed something, you had to kind of yell into the construction zone and someone would usually come out.
Breakfast was decent but certainly nothing special.
The AC in our room never worked. They cleaned it on the first day, which did nothing. And on the third day after I complained, they were going to get a mechanic to come but he was "too drunk to awaken" so the AC was never fixed. Plus, there were no screens on the windows, so we couldn't open them because there were too many mosquitoes around. It never got below about 85F/29C at night. It was brutal.
The outdoor bathroom is nice except for the mosquitoes. The shower is cold-ish water but it feels nice after the heat there. There is a window from the room that can see into the shower, so make sure you travel with people you're comfortable with.
The courtyard area is small but nice except for the construction. Good landscaping.
The hotel itself is quite hard to find since it's not on the main "road" that circles the island. You need to turn left at the yoga studio and health station, then make a quick zig to the right and zag to the left near the thai restaurant and continue down the same direction that you had been going before all the zigging and zagging.
Speaking of location, I actually didn't mind that it wasn't on the main drag. It was quieter that way. The only problem, and it's kind of a big one, is that the side roads are all dirt, sand, and in the rainy season, mud. So you're walking through mud and deep puddles to get to and from the hotel. It's not great if you care about that sort of thing.
The hotel might be nice once they finish it and get the service level up to where it needs to be. It has potential. But for now, I would avoid it.
