Just returned from 3 days at Alam Gili.
We walked in after initially booking in at another place & taking a look at a few of the properties on the north side of Gili Trawagan. We were attracted by the original Bali-style architecture and the shaded pool (a must on the coast where it's difficult to get into the sea during low tide).
The staff were just fantastic, and Made & the team made us feel very welcome and at home from the minute we checked in. We stayed in the Mahi Mahi building at the back.
Although the power went off every night (not the fault of the hotel), we stayed reasonably cool by keeping the door open and looking out onto the tranquil, lush and private garden.
Would definitely go back anytime!

Alam Gili is a charming place with friendly staff. We had a private transfer from the airport and all went smoothly. Our room (cottage) was pleasant and we loved the outdoor bathroom. My perception was that all the rooms would face the sea but this isn't the case - only the large room with the balcony. The food was excellent, always cooked to order and the free afternoon tea and cake was a nice touch. You can eat on your terrace or at tables on the beach. It's a bit out of town but that was fine as we enjoyed the peaceful area and amazing stars at night. The little pool is pleasant and you can go snorkeling in the sea right in front at high tide.

A down side for us was that we seemed to have the 'dud' room. It was called Nemo, right at the back and they warned us that sometimes a neighbour's generator (right next door) 'might' start up. This ended up being 3 out of the 4 nights that we were there - a continuous loud hum. Our power also went off on 3 nights out of 4 so the room got pretty hot with no fan. (There's no air-con, which is fine if you have a fan) Despite these inconveniences, I think I would stay there again - it's a lovely place, but would ask for a room at the front of the hotel.

My second stay at Alam Gili, first time last year in a garden bungalow and last week in the Duyung room overlooking the beach. I love Alam Gili, it's so peaceful and friendly. Despite the huge amount of building that has gone on in Trawangan in the last year Alam Gili is in a quiet spot on the north of the island, with quiet beach to the left and the right. The reef in front of the hotel is still good for snorkling. The staff are super friendly and very, very helpful. Breakfast is good and so is the other food, but I wish there was a bit more choice of Indonesian dishes on the menu. The rooms are simple, but have everything you need on for a beach break and the small pool is always refreshing as it's in the shade and cool. If you book the transport option from the airport, ask the driver to take you via the monkey forest route as it's a very scenic route. I hope to return to Alam Gili soon as I love it there

Alam Gili in Gili Trawangan is one rare resort that can pride itself on having a super wonderful staff. It is the only few resorts that i had stayed that its attitude to its guest is consistent throughout from the minute you arrived till you leave. Nothing is too much for them. All of its staff, from the gardener to room service, to service at the dinning areas and more really makes me and friends feel at home. They are all smiles each and every time you meet them.

We were allowed to view the various types of room available and we love the non-air con double that came with a balcony on the second level. And we spent a lot of time on the spacious balcony reading and chatting. Room and set up is fabulous!

The house reef is by far the best you can find for snorkeling on the island. We went on a snorkeling trip which was a disappointment as it includes Alam Gili's house reef which we were doing everyday. At Turtle Bay, no turtles in sight. Visibility is really bad too. Not beyond 5metres and we were bitten by things in the water. The final spot off another smaller island, is also accessible off the beach as we heard from another fellow traveler we met. Like us, she expects to be taken to more open areas other than just off the beach as she had stayed at the island a few days back and she had seen this bay on her own . Fishes here are a plenty although clams were supposed to be the lure here but the funny weird thing is there were like one or two, and its very polluted. We had done snorkeling before elsewhere and we had definitely seen better and bigger clams compared to the pathetic ones at Clam Bay!!!

Gili islands might have been a dive and snorkel paradise once but we find it is hardly worth the trip. We were supposed to go diving, in fact our trip is a dive trip but we back out after the snorkeling trip.

We stayed at the Suite view. A beautiful house with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a porch and balcony.
Alam Gili is located on a lovely spot at the beach. A good place for snorkling to see the amazing underwater life.
The staff is very kind and service minded.

We stayed at the Alam Gili for 3 nights from the 23rd to the 26th June 2009. It was the most amazing, out of this world experience. In fact, I am tempted to say that this is the best place I have ever stayed at. We was in two minds whether we should post this review, simply because this place is such a gem and we were quite tempted to keep this knowledge all to ourselves.

We arrived from the hustle and bustle of Bali. We enjoyed Bali and its culture but Gili Trawangan just completely blew us away. From the moment we stepped into arrivals at Lombok airport, every single moment was special. Our driver stood waiting to pick us up to the hotel, greeting us with a big smile even though our flight arrival had been delayed by more than 2 hours.

The beautiful sandy beaches and turquoise waters are simply amazing. Alam Gili is situated at the north coast of Gili Trawangan, so it offered a tranquil and idyllic setting in which my partner and I completely relaxed. We could watch both the beautiful sunrise and sunset from the beach directly in front of the hotel. There are unobstructed views of Gunung Agung in the West and Gunung Rinjani in the East.

Apart from amazing beaches, water, views and snorkelling, what makes Alam Gili truly special must be its staff. From the moment we set foot on the hotel, the staff were unfailingly attentive, courteous and friendly to a fault. The smiles and warmth were genuinely from the heart.

They staff knew us by name and would greet us enthusiastically everytime we walked by. They would stop what they were doing and engage us in conversation about life on the island and their families. They would tidy our room twice a day. Nothing was too much trouble for them. From our receptionist, Kedik, to our waiter, Putu, we were treated like royalty. This is not something that can just be learnt in a hospitality school.

The food at Cafe Wayan on the hotel was exceptional as well. I am normally not a beach holiday person, but I found it hard to leave the hotel because everything down to the ambience, the food, the accomodation was perfect. It was fantastic to just laze and do nothing, the perfect antidote to a frazzled urban lifestyle.

We were very sad to leave Gili Trawangan when the time came. My partner and I have travelled widely but Gili T is one of those places that beckons us to return, even though we live half way around the world. We will be coming back and there is no question where we will be staying. I can only hope that Gili T and the Alam Gili retain their quiet charm even with the passing of time and increased commercialism.

We have just returned from 4 nights in Gili Trewangan. We stayed at Alam Gili on the quite north coast & it really was the most stunning island & the hotel was really what made the stay. The staff were so attentive and luckily not brained washed by the management and not afraid to have a conversation with you and find out about you & you them. The food is awesome, really lovely rooms(most have no AC) but really not an issue.. Anyway GET THERE, thouroughly recommended..
