We spent one week in Shak 59...
Has been the best time ever!!!
Shack is definitely the best place to stay.
The location is perfect!
The food is fantastic.
The room is huge and super comfortable.
The staff is super! All of them are super nice, kind, always helpfull.
The food is unbelievable, you need to taste EVERYTHING!!!!
The breakfast is great!!! Delicious!!! Pancakes, fresh juices, fruits, Lombok Coffee, omelettes, eggs...YUMMY!!!!
The location is just in front of the best snorkeling place on the island.
We've been snorkeling almost all over Gili Meno and the best place is just in front of Shack.
There is a private Gazebo where you may have brakfast, lie down in the sofa and read or have a Bintang or just relax...
We also had lunch and dinner there... you actually dont´t even need to leave the Gazebo.
We will definetely come back next year, and if we can... it will be 2 weeks this time.
It's the second year in Gili, last year Shack was fully booked but this year we made it!!!!
I really think it is the best place ever to relax :)

Even if you walled of the Shacks and spent your holiday been pampered by the staff, it would be a great vacation....the fact that this hideaway nestles right on the ocean and part of Gilli Meno, makes its a tremendous break from reality.

My Kindle got a serious workout as did my dive log book. Divine Divers are the only outfit to consider and a 10 min walk down the ocean-side path.

Hengki and his staff were very friendly and tendered to every request; from water taxi bookings, to co-ordinating delicious meals, and generally ensuring our trip was as relaxing as possible.

Thanks to Callie for all her organizing and cannot wait to go back.....

Room Tip: Prepare to relax, take some reef shoes for exploring, and pack lightly.

Shack 58 is just amazing! There's enough space for 4 people at least, the biggest problem is figuring out which couch or daybed to lounge on. We were very well cared for, and the breakfast was delicious. We arrived via Fast Boat from Padangbai (Bali), and were pleased to find that we could be dropped off at Gili Meno, thus avoiding a separate boat ride. If you have a rollerbag, as we did, don't even think about walking from the harbor area - the path is too sandy. Donkey carts are overpriced but fun. Hengke arranged our transportation to Lombok and told us exactly what to do.
At low tide, the water is VERY shallow. The beach isn't great either. You can easily walk to a better beach location if you want to.

Room Tip: Shack 58 is WAY better than Shack 59. But don't hesitate to rent Shack 59 if that's all tha...

Shack 59 is one of most beautiful, secluded and relaxing places we've ever had the pleasure of staying at. Hengki and June looked after us marvellously (and cook an amazing pancake). Shack 58 is huge with a very comfortable, large day area and a separate air conditioned bedroom behind it. The bathroom is outdoor and a few yards from the bedroom. The power went off a couple of times when we were there which meant decamping to the daybed in search of a sea breeze, but this was all part of the fun.
I can't tell you how simply incredible the stars at night and the evening sunsets are from Gili Meno. We're returning this year.
Highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights in May, 2012. Shack 58/59 is on the northern side of Gili Meno, about 1km or so from the "harbor". Getting here is really the biggest concern you will have, once you're here, its so secluded, you really only have to worry about what you're going to eat, where you're going to snorkel, and what you're going to read in your cabana during the day.

We stayed in Shack 59, which is set back from the beach by about 200 feet or so. A small dirt path (really, everything on Gili Meno is a dirt path) links you to Shack 58, your beach bale, and the staff area / kitchen. Shack 58 seems a bit larger, and the beachfront bale for 58 is quite larger than the one for Shack 59, but it didn't detract one bit. Our bale had a ceiling fan, table, chairs, and a daybed - perfect for lounging around. Our room was large, maybe 20 feet by 15 feet; its one big room with a bed, 2 couches, ceiling fans, air conditioning (which is nice because you're set back from the beach and there's not much of a breeze), a mini fridge (water/sodas for reasonable price - about $1 for 1.5L bottle of water), a TV for watching movies (no satellite or cable), and a safe. The bathroom is a typical outdoor affair with fresh water - and hot water - a big plus since most places you'll find on Gili Meno only have sea water. The placement of the bathroom is a bit "odd" and our only "hmmmm... well OK" thing we had here - the bathroom is outside Shack 59, so you have to leave your room, and walk out on the porch to get to the outdoor bathroom. But again, shack 59 is really secluded, so its not a major issue. Its the perfect place to get away from it all; we had a great time here - no internet, spotty phone service, no TV, just you, your traveling companion(s), the beach, and your thoughts - a great escape.

We did the snorkeling trip offered through the staff - great guide (200,000 for a private 2 hour trip), who took us to 4 snorkeling spots. The snorkeling is excellent about 100 yards off the beach anyway, so if you don't want to take the trip, rent the snorkeling gear from the staff (30,000 per day), and just swim straight out. Watch for the low tide - it get's really low - you have to "suck in the gut" in spots to be able to swim all the way out, but during regular tide - its an easy swim - no real currents to speak of with an average depth of about 3 feet (if you get in trouble - just stand up!) until you get out to the reef. Also see the turtle sanctuary south of the "harbor" right on the beach - seeing the little guys up close is a real treat!

We tried the fresh fish dinner that other reviewers raved about - and its excellent. We ate in our beachfront bale; and the local cat(s) will be your dinner guests. We bribed the cats with the fish heads and that gave us some quiet time to enjoy our dinner. Breakfast is good - but other than that and the fish dinner, we ate at Ya Ya's, about a 10-15 minute walk from Shack 58/59. The food there is excellent and its probably one of the cheapest spots on the island; dinner for 2 with fresh fruit juice for 48,000 - about $5 - can't be beat.

We paid in advance for the room, but everything else was cash - they don't take credit cards or PayPal on-site. Plan ahead before you leave Bali or transfer from Gili T and bring enough cash with you.

Getting to Meno can be tough or expensive if you don't know what you're doing. Many speedboat companies go to the Gilis, but most don't stop at Gili Meno so you have to transfer from one of the other islands. Sea Marlin has a direct boat from Bali; we took the Ekajaya boat (1,000,000 for 2 people return - and we had to haggle hard to get that price) to Gili T and then transferred by local boat (20,000 per person) which we arranged through the public "harbor" - we had about a 45 minute "layover" on Gili T waiting for the boat - but if you don't want to wait, you can hire a private boat for 200,000 from the public harbor too.

There are no cars on Gili Meno, but there is a donkey driven "taxi" service. We decided to walk by ourselves from the "harbor" - and it was a long, dusty, and hot walk through the center of the island. It wouldn't have been too bad, but we had small roller board suitcases with us, which amazingly enough don't roll well on sand. So pay the 40,000 to 80,000 (always negotiate) to get up to Shack 58/59. The center of the island has zero breeze, so if you have to get somewhere, take the path along the beach - its significantly cooler. The "harbor" is really the beach where the boats pull up - be prepared to step off the boat into the water - there's no dock, but the boat crews will give you a hand if you need it. Our snorkeling guide served as our ride to Gili T for the speedboat trip back to Bali - he picked us up in front of Shack 58/59 and dropped us off at Gili T - it saved us the hike back to the "harbor", and the wait for the public boat - it actually cost only a few dollars more than the donkey "taxi" and public boat would have been combined for the two of us.

Check for reviews/posts from "Beach Bum Bill" - after conversing online, we were blessed to meet up with him, his wife and friends in Gili Meno while we were there. He lives in Bali and visits Gili Meno frequently - trust his advice; he's responsive via email too if you have questions.

Room Tip: Shack 59 - take it for its seclusion. Shack 58 - up front near the beach, big beach front bale - bu...

Words can not explain our delight when we arrived at Shack 58 & realized this is where we were going to be living for the next three days.. We paid about $100 per night, which is beyond a bargain! There is a separate living/dining bale, with massive day beds to lounge in, an enormous dining table (could literally fit 15) all overlooking the white sandy shores & aqua seas of Gili Meno, which are about 20 meters away!! This is also where the gorgeous staff would serve our incredible breakfasts (incl in tariff) & lunches (authentic fresh Indonesian meals about $5-$7 for two!) The bathroom also has it's own pavilion, and then tucked behind is the large bedroom, with A/C, comfiest bed, & large day bed. We snorkeled right out the front of our shack, and all around the island.. the corals & variety of fish were spectacular. We walked the whole Island in about an hour & a half stopping for a cocktail at Mahamaya at sunset. Each evening we found ourselves walking the sandy path about 500m north to a tiki lit outdoor bar/restaurant for tasty seafood tapas & cocktails in the most beautiful setting. All in all a truly unforgettable experience!! We would have stayed longer if it wasn't booked solid, so to avoid disappointment, book ahead! Oh & there is no ATM's on Meno, so make sure you get cash before arriving.

We were lucky enough to spend 11 (11-22/3) days at Schack 58. Callie is an excellent boss and are treating the staff at Schack 58/59 very well. Callie also answered our questions via email really quickly. Hengki and June and all the staff was really taking care of us. We spent 3 days on snorkelling trips which was great, especially when we wasn´t sure of thestrong currents between the islands. It felt much safer to go out with a boat.

Everything was great. The only thing that could be nicer, would be a door to the lovely bathroom instead of a blowing curtain ((-:
The breakfast was lovely, with indonesian pancake, mixed fruit, fruit juice and coffe. It was so tasty and big. It was more of a brunch.

Thank you all.
Can´t wait to get back.
Thank you for a wonderful vacation

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Escape to 2 simple getaway cottages on NE side of Gili Meno Island. These cottages are deliberately simple in design so one can relax and disengage from the stresses of modern life. This place was built with the idea of relaxing in a simple environment but with a few luxuries. If you are wanting "lights camera action" type holiday this is not for you. We rely on the island generator for power and embrace the simple life - if you going to get upset if the power goes out or water isn't delivered timeously due to bad weather or low tides over reef a remote island with no infrastructure is definitely not your gig. If you need simplicity and a pure island experience you will enjoy visiting us. 58 & Bamboo H are both beachfront properties, Shack59 is on a separate property about 100m from the beach, but it does have its own large daytime gazebo with bed and table and chairs and private bathroom where guests are invited to relax and enjoy the view. All meals are served on the beach gazebos. ... more   less
