Fiesta Hotel Cala Nova
Ranked #8 of 13 Hotels in Es Canar
Reviewed October 1, 2010

The Cala Nova's best asset is it's stunning location; overlooking and no more than a hundred metres saunter from Es Canar's best beach. In fact I would say the finest beach of eastern Ibiza! Soft golden sands, crystal clear and warm sea, clean, safe and with a range of great cafe bars on the beach you couldn't ask for more.

The hotel itself is a very short walk away from the centre of Es Canar so is very peaceful whilst close to shops, bars and the bus stop. The local bus takes only 15 mins to get to Santa Eulalia and from there the rest of the island.

The hotel itself is impeccably clean. The food is buffet style and whilst Ibiza is not renowned for its culinary delights, the quality and range of food in the hotel was often better than in the town's restaurants. There are 2 bars, one in the lounge and one by the pool, but drinks aren't cheap.

The hotel principally caters for the more senior traveller, its decor seems stuck in 1978. Saying that everything is in perfect working condition, so we could quickly forgive the decor. There was plenty of entertainment for kids in the day and seniors in the evenings.

Younger couples, like us, can enjoy the value and location of the hotel for a romantic get-away but should probably leave the hotel for neighbouring St Eulalia in the evenings.

The only real drawback is that most of the rooms are conjoining. Which means there is only a thin door separating you from your neighbours. Our talkative neighbours might as well have been sat at the foot of my bed, for we could hear every word they uttered. This lack of privacy did grate after a while, but as most of the guests were 50+ at least no one kept us awake at night.

Otherwise the rooms sufficed with comfy enough beds, hot showers and a sea view from most floors.

For a slower paced trip to Ibiza you could do a lot worse than this pleasant, clean and relaxing hotel.

We have just returned from our first holiday together at the Hotel Cala Nova and it was fantastic. The bedrooms are clean, tidy maybe a bit small but who needs a big room when you only sleep in there!
The food was great, a choice for everyone at dinner, fish, meat, cheese, pasta, two types of Potato everynight. Breakfast was just as good, great choice.
The location of the hotel is great too, only a minute to the beach and a 10-15 minute walk to the main part of Es Cane.
The only down side i would say is that its 4 euro a day for a safe and 2.50 euro per beach towel per day!! Make sure you take your own. We bought two, which turned out cheaper
The overall holiday was fantastic and would go back without a doubt.

Just returned from a fortnight at the Fiesta Cala Nova and had a lovely holiday.

The hotel is a typical spanish 3* which suited us just fine. The hotel is clean, the staff friendly and the food...........oh the food ( I put on nearly half a stone)!
The entertainment team work extremely hard with both daytime and evening activities/shows to please all age ranges and nationalities (mainly brits and germans) but are in no way pushy for guest participation.
Cala nova beach is right next to the hotel which was lovely when we fancied a change to the pool area. There were a few nudes on the beach but nobody seemed to worry.

The town of Es Canar is only 10/15 minutes walk away. There is a small marina with a few water sports (banana boats etc) and boat trips to various places in Ibiza. There are also several bars and cafes overlooking the bay.

Popeyes bar soon became our favourite watering hole! OK it does have the obligitory bingo between 9 &10pm but the atmosphere of the bar along with the really good tribute/comedy acts made it a hands-down winner. Landlord Tony very comical!

If I have to have one niggle about this holiday, it would be the price of drinks in the hotel. We like to have a couple of drinks before dinner & they were quite expensive. You can buy a 'Fiesta all inclusive drinks or drinks/snacks package' on arrival but this would only be beneficial if you stayed in the hotel for the majority of your holiday. Although it might suit some, we prefer to venture out to try different bars and cafes.

Would definately recommend the resort and the Hotel Cala Nova.

Just returned from one weeks holiday. Es Cana is a lovely friendly resort with lots of bars and restaurants, entertainment from tribute bands and a hub of activity aorund the small harbour.

The hotel was good. It is a traditional hotel, that is a little old-fashioned. The rooms are small, but fine for two people. The rooms were cleaned daily with clean towels. We took our own travel kettle. We did not have to pay for the safe, you can set the safe by using a digital code - maybe that have not up-graded these safes in all the rooms, that is why some people have been charged??

The food was good. The hotel was full, so the dining room was always busy. They could have more staff clearing the tables. The selection of food at breakfast consisted of cereals, fruits, yoghurts, fresh fruit and hot selection. The only weird thing was the hotel did provide fried or scrambled eggs in the hot food section. You had to queue for an egg or an omelette and the queue was always big,
The evening meal was also good, theme most nights, chinese, italian, mexican. The food was always presented well and piping hot.

I though the hotel was good value for money. We did not hang around the hotel during the day or night. The one night we did, I asked for a Pina Colada off of their cocktail list -I got a chemical mess of pineapple juice and bottled pina colada. I complained because they charged me 5 euros. I explained what a cocktail should look like and how it is made - but they did not have a clue. We did not drink in there again.
The evening entertainment was poor. We liked to go into the town at night, about 5 mins walk away. Lots going on - we went to Popeye's bar which was very friendly and good value and always had live entertainment.

We used to go fishing every day down at the harbour. It was great fun, load of activity in
the water. We pulled in ocutopus, eels, tuna, and lots of other fish. At night, there are mullet and baracudas. Take your fishing rod and you will have great fun. I used a handline and still managed to catch lots of fish!!

I would recommend Es Cana because there is lots to do. The main beach in Es Cana is busy and the water is a little murky. The bay at cala nova hotel is so much nicer, the sea is lovely and clear. Both beaches are busy though, so you need to get there early on to get a good spot.
Personally, I was not impressed with the hotel pool, it looked murky and it is too small for the amount of rooms in the hotel. I much prefer to swim in the sea.
If, you have mobility problems you might find accessing the beach and town difficult.

Worth a visit if you can get it at a good price, like we did!!

Returned from the Cala Nova on the 17th of Sept, first time in Ibiza but not the last.
Will we go back to the Cala Nova YES, going to book for my birthday in May.
Will start with the downsides first. If you want a safe (which we did) it will cost you
4 Euro a day, also to hire a beach towel thats another 2.50 a day (we didn't bother, you can buy one for 10 Euro). Also if you want WI-FI that cost's 4 Euro for 30 mins, a 10 minute walk to Popeys bar and it's free and a nice pint of Strongbow!!
A couple of little niggles, rooms on the small side but you arn't in them long (we had number 311) also very limited wardrobe space, snacking round the pool limited to toasties, hotdogs and burgers, although you can buy better if you want.

On the good side to many too mention, hotel very clean they seem to be cleaning 24 hours a day.
The staff very nice and helpfull, Alonso the barman seems very moody at first but he really is very nice and dosen't forget what you drink all the barstaff are smiling all the time, they made sure our glasses were full when the A I finished at midnight.
Restaurant staff can't fault them espically Virginia, she always made sur the tables were set and the plates cleared away prompt (all the staff were very good).
FOOD what can i say!!
Salmon cooked in front of you (i don't like fish) Hake and other fish, fresh prawns and mussels, steak although thin, joints of pork and beef, turkey crown you name it you had it.
The hotel pool very nice, no need to put towels on sunbeds as there is pleanty, lovely view over th beach.
If youwant to go out of the hotel busses run every 30 min from top of the road into Es Cana and Santa Eulalia from there you can catch a bus to anywhere on Ibiza. Ibiza town very nice, but if you go wear trainers not flip flops like i did, it's a very steep walk to the top.
I could go on but would take all day.
Will we go back to Ibiza yes.
Will we go back the Fiesta Hotel Es Cala Nova YES, YES.

We've just come back from 2 weeks' half board at the Fiesta Cala Nova hotel in Es Canar in Ibiza. We had not been to Ibiza before and the hotel as recommended to us by friends and we were not disappointed. The hotel was excellent - very clean and tidy and the buffet breakfast and dinner were outstanding. I am quite particular with food and I found a huge variety to eat. None of the rooms have fridges now but you can hire them (quite costly though so we didn't bother). The hotel's location is excellent. It's at the end of a road so you don't get any passing traffic and the pool is on the edge of the cliff so you look out the sea. The beach is about a minute's walk from the pool so you can leave your stuff there and walk to the beach for a swim and come straight back to the pool. The resort is very good although the shops are quite samey and it's typically tourist items. The supermarkets are very good and stock an array of food and not expensive although UK branded items are, as you'd expect, expensive. We frequented the Jarcaranda bar in the evening which looks out to sea and is a lovely setting. We hired a car for 3 days from a hire place just down the road from the hotel which was slightly cheaper than doing it through the rep at Thomas Cook. It was a very good grade B car. However, we are used to driving around Majorca which is much bigger than Ibiza so we'd really done it all in 2 days and struggled to find things to do for the third day. When we go back we'll use the local bus service which is very cheap and highly reommended as a reliable way of getting out and about. Overall this was an excellent holiday and a lovely introduction to Ibiza. We would thoroughly recommend the hotel.

Just returned home from the Fiesta hotel Cala Nova after our two week stay Having stayed at the fiesta Cala Llonga twice before. After reading some of the reviews on here I emailed the in resort thomson staff to request a non adjoining room with a sea view, and for the first time my requests were granted. The room was adequate for two with a double bed and also a fold out bed which we didnt need,tv and decent size bathroom. Our room was situated near the stairs and lifts which was quite at times, but not enough to complain about. The walls are paper thin and a scraping of a chair or closing of doors can seam much worse than it was, probily this was due to inconsiderate guests. The rooms are cleaned every day and kept spotlessly clean. The food in the hotel is plentiful and delicious, if people are complaining about the food it must be because they are fussy eaters. Although I must say that I found the service in the restaurant to be very slow, this is no fault of the staff that are there as they seem to be rushed off theyre feet, but it seems that they are short staffed and sometimes our plates were piled up on the tables after courses.Dont think it was up to the usual Fiesta hotel standard in that respect. Drinks at the hotel bars are really expensive and after the evening meal theyre seemed to be a mass exodus of people leaving the hotel, maybe if they dropped theyre prices then more people would stay to watch the shows of an evening. The animation staff Christian, Banessa and Roberta all worked very hard to entertain everyone and to get people to play the games around the pool, either you want to join in or you dont there was no pressure. Some of the activities got cancelled because theyre was only 2 people taking part which was a shame. The hotel pool looks small in the brochure but its adequate enough for a good swim, also a seperate childrens pool, both manned by a really helpful guy from the dominican. There are also toilets and showers by the pool also kept spotlessly clean. The hotel is in a lovely location just a small path down to the beach. The beach is clean, the water is shallow for quite some distance, but the waves can get quite high and knock you off your feet. Theyre is nude bathing allowed in the centre of the beach and it is a little rocky in parts. We took a walk to Cala LLenya beach which took us around 25 minuets, which was another nice beach to visit . There is a lovely bar at the back of the hotel called the Zen Sea where you can chill on the sofas and listen to the waves also down another path is a campsite and a reasonable supermarket where they can make you up delicious bocodillos for lunch. Its a short walk down the road into Es Canar itself where theyre are quite a few bars and restaurants and shops most very pricy but theyre were a few that we liked such as Popeyes,Es Pins and the restaurant Es Canar, You can also catch a bus to Santa Eularia where you then catch a bus to Ibiza town.Wouldnt like to stay in Es Canar itself though was a little too noisy. I think Ill return in a couple of years as I enjoyed this holiday alot and I love Ibiza also the weather was fantastic which helped, hope this has been helpful.
