“Brilliant time, hot, relaxed, quiet, lovely”
Reviewed February 3, 2010

My boyfriend and two of our friends went to the Blue Diamond studios in Corfu in August 2009 and we had a brilliant time, we went for 2 weeks but ended up being there 17 days due to early/late flights and transfers that made our holiday under £300 each.
We booked with co op travel and flew from manchester aiport.
Blue diamond studios are pretty basic, which is all we needed, it had a microwave/hob which we used once and a sink with basic utensils. The room is typically greek with single beds and a sliding patio door, we were on the bottom floor but i think if we could have we would have tried to get to the top floor where the views would have been amazing.
We payed for air con for the first week and werent asked to pay again, it was pretty dear (i cant remember how much - around 80euro for the week) but it was so worth it as i couldnt sleep in the 25+ degrees at night.
The pool is lovely but the typical english holiday makers do as our stereotype suggests and get up early to hog the sun loungers! But it wasnt too busy, with around 15 studios there were never more than 40 people around the pool.
The trips to paxos and anti paxos are crucial if you want to explore, its a brilliant day out, kids welcome, pretty early start but you have a full day away on the boat with a really friendly crew and you jump off the boat into the clearest sea - amazing.
The bars/clubs and restaurants in agios are perfect if you want a little excitement and culture but is the complete opposite of kavos (we drove through kavos and saw disgusting english people hungover spread over kavos like a rash - a real embarrassment).
Sidari is a good place to visit for the day with amazing cliffs where the young ones jump off into the sea.
The beaches are fantastic, quad bikes from georges are a must if you want to travel around the bottom of the island. We rented a car for the north and Corfu town and visited Aqua land which was also brilliant (tickets can be bought from blue diamond rep at a cheaper rate).
Definitley recommended to those who want a quiet get a way in the sun with little hassle but a little excitment, do as much or as little as you want. 2 weeks it more than enough time to see everything.

We got moved to these apartments after being dumped in Star Studios.

This was a lovely place to stay, right on the main strip, very close to all bars, restaurants and beaches. would definately recommend to stay here if you are looking for a basic room with a very nice pool. The only thing i would warn about is the owner Demitri, he tends to charge different prices each time you buy food and drinks. One morning we were charged 2.50 euros for 3 slices of toast, then the day after we were charged 4.50 for 4 slices of toast. when questioned about the change in prices, he just shrugged his shoulders!

Overall it was a nice place to stay that was bery clean!

My wife and I are in our early - mid 50's and enjoy relaxing breaks with good facilities and things to do when the fancy takes us. This is our third trip to Corfu and the second to this destination in the south part of the island. St Georges South resort has a nice long stretch of safe sandy beach and mainly one long high street where all the supermarkets and restaurants/bars are located.
The Blue Diamond studios provide fairly basic and clean accommodation with a lovely pool area + reception/television/snack/bar room. The owner speaks little English but is pleasant and helpful. Each room includes cooking faclities and a fridge + seperate toilet area with shower. Consider requesting a room on the second (top) floor as the views are better especially if you are lucky enough as we were to overlook the pool. Also on one side of the building the downstairs rooms are by a path where residents will occasionally walk by. Check you are happy with the cost of a safe and air conditioning in your room which don't come as standard. We booked two rooms (as our son and his friend had one room) for one week and didn't ask the cost in advance and were suprised with what we viewed as an excessive charge for one safe and two air conditioning units at a total cost of 94 Euro!
There are many restaurants and bars to choose from in the resort - the best we found for eating out were the Taverna Malibu (with very friendly owner) and The Balcony restaurant. The XL Bar/restaurant had computor facilities + a free pool table and table tennis table. 'Mad Mikes' served nice beer and good value cocktails + had three pool tables. As we travelled with our son age 21 and his friend having these kinds of places helped keep them entertained as there is not much in the way of night clubs, though bars do stay open very late into the morning. There are also water sports such as paragliding for the more adventureous + bikes, scooters, car and quad bike hire (more on the last of these later).
The nicest walk from the resort is up hill through olive tree woods to a hill top village called Argyrades. Stop off at the small shop (with table outside) in the village for a drink before continueing the walk to the church where there are lovely views of the surrounding area to the coast. Don't be suprised if you are joined by one or two friendly dogs on this journey who belong to a Villa passed on the way.
We have booked a quad bike from George's on both our visits to this resort (cost approx 20 Euro). As this part of the island is relatively quite we feel safe in driving along the main roads and tracks. We have now explored vertially all the south part of this island on a quad bike. But always ensure you have enough fuel for your planned journey and take your mobile in case you break down and need to ring the hirer - also keep in mind where you are so you can specify a location should there be an emergency.
Remember to take your driving licence though this may not be insisted upon for a quad bike. The quad bikes are easy to operate with only a few minutes training and practice needed.
Once you have your chosen means of transport here are a few suggested places to visit:
Chlomos - hill top village with stunning views (especially from a restaurant)
Chlomatiana - as above
Alonaki - restaurant on coast with nice areas to sit + lovely view
Marathia and Gardenios for nice sandy beaches with restaurants
Psares - restaurant on opposite coast line
Other tips:
Supermarket food and drink is generally expensive for the basic requirements so take with you things like coffee. tea, breakfast cereal, sun tan cream and mosquito repellant.
Mastercard and Visa are widely accepted but not the debit card Maestro.
The nearest chemist is approx 2km away on the main Corfu road - easy to reach by quad but quite a walk otherwise.
The resort has one bank till which ran out of money for a few days while we were there.
Enjoy your stay and check out our photos.

We read some of the reviews of the Blue Diamond Appartments after booking and were a bit concerned. These concerns were to a large extent not realised. It is true to say that the appartments are very basic and I would certainly not recommend them for anyone wishing to self cater exclusively during their stay and like most Greek appartments you have to run around in the shower to get wet. However, the rooms including the bathroom were clean as was the swimming pool. The beds were made daily but towels and sheets could have been changed a little more than they were. The guy who owns the appartment block is called Dimitris. He can be a bit of a misery but doesn't speak English and I think a lot is lost in translation. We had no major problems with either the appartment or Dimitris during our week long stay.
The area is really nice and the Blue Diamond ideally placed to take advantage of it. It is directly opposite the point that the boat excursions leave for either Paxos or the Greek mainland. I can really recommend the trips and the boat crew are really pleasant. It is also only 20 metres from the best restaurant in St Georges, Le Bistrot. Whilst every restaurant we ate in during our stay was excellent, Le Bistrot really is the tops and specialises in freshly cooked Corfuian dishes such as sofrita. The food was a revelation - having visited many Greek islands, I know of no other that boasts so many specific specialities. In my opinion it would be hard to find a bad restaurant in St Georges but try Le Bistrot - it is no more expensive than the others despite cooking food freshly..
The beach is excellent, albeit the sandy shoreline often gives way to rocks a metre or so out so you need to pick your spot. Two sunbeds and an umbrella cost 5E which I thought good value.
Corfu is certainly a bit wetter than most Greek islands and even in June we had thunderstorms every day and even witnessed a tornado one day. Even so, no matter how bad it got, there was always an opportunity for 4 - 5 hours lounging on the beach. Apparently the weather was exceptionally bad during our stay but then again, it usually is ! The up side is that the isalnd is a lot greener and more lush than any of the others.
In summary, I would not put anyone off going to the Blue Diamond appartments - they represent good value for money. I would not want to cook in them however. St Georges itself is a wonderful location and one to which I hope to return.

The apartments are very clean and well looked after. surrounded by beautiful well kept gardens with a pool and loungers, with cushions and parasols at no extra charge. Nobody bothers you, but if you need help or advise there is always someone there to help you. No t.v or radio in your room but there is a t.v in the bar/eating area. plenty of bars and restaurants, spoilt for choice. The seagulls, sunset, pizza place across from the blue diamond, all great food and drink. Mad mikes round the corner is a great breakfast place and for evening drinks and cocktails. The beach is great, sometimes a nice breeze which we were glad off as very hot hot hot. Plenty of beach and water activities if you want to participate. supermarkets are plenty and well stocked. We went on a boat trip to paxos, very good day out. Took a bus into corfu town which cost just under 3 euros each person each way. Even went to kavos for a day and evening, This is easily accessible by quad bikes or scooters or hire a car and travel round a few other places, roads are well sign posted. Just remember your drivers license. People are very friendly and speak good english, but we did speak a few basic words in greek from our phrase book. The only thing i will say is take mosquito repellent if you want to sit out in an evening, especially on a very warm evening. Great place definately recommended.
