I'm with earlier reviewers PrincessSparkleUK, Kitty548 and tmren on this one. First things first, hotels in Ibiza are notoriously expensive. You also have the extremes of the super cool new places with prices to match, down to the more notorious apartments on Playa d'en Bossa (and San Antonio) which are 24/7 party, noise, crime etc.

If like me, you fall somewhere between those extremes, then this is a good option. You can actually sleep and feel secure, without paying rock star DJ prices! It is well located in the old town. Dalt Villa and all the bars and restaurants are within easy walking distance. Playa d'en Bossa is a longer walk or short cab ride. We parked our car in the (small) underground car park free of charge every day without a hitch (in September, mind). It has a very low roof and tight corners so don't bring a bigger car.

The hotel staff were very obliging and helpful. We did not eat in the hotel, but did find the rooftop terrace and pool a nice option. The associated cafe was decent for a coffee too. The gym we did not use, but it is not particularly impressive looking. But I don't go on holiday to Ibiza to do a workout!

As other commentators have said, the decor is very much "jaded 4-star 'glamour'" that is looking quite dated. But this did not distract from the comfort or cleanliness of the hotel, or the pleasantness of ALL the staff we encountered over 5 days.

(Associated rant - you may wish to skip - Spain is an awesome country that millions of people rightly wish to visit. Tourism is one of its main industries. The economy has been struggling post property bubble in the crisis years. There are masses of these old (Franco era?) jaded hotels all across the country. Think fake wood laminates and ersatz gold plating. Out of date televisions and air conditioner units. How about Spain/EU sets up some kind of fund to rebuild / modernise much of its ageing tourist infrastructure, as a good way to boost their economy?)

The immediate locale of the hotel is not particurly pretty, with scrub land and a dog walking park right in front. The neighbouring streets also house lots of 'clubs' that don't appear to conform to the usual image of Ibiza nightlife (see associated photos!). However, i did not venture inside any of them, so cannot confirm their exact nature!

My friend got upgraded to a junior suite, with a huge balcony. You may be lucky too, so give Royal Plaza a try!

The service at this hotel was really appalling. I got into serious discussions at check-in and at check-out. While checking in, the clerk was more than slow and insisted that we wait for all our passports to being processed for more than 20 minutes or so. Free parking is only available for 12 cars (they claim that at least...), so "free" parking as advertised is never available. When checking out, they insisted that the credit card is charged in my home currency only, which was set at about 10% worse than the exchange rate charged by my credit card company. Disputing this is now very tedious.
The rooms were good and as I expected, a plus was the balcony in our room. Bathrooms again were what you would expect from an older 4 star hotel. Location is excellent, close to the old town, but still quite.

Great hotel, great location, bit dated but don't let that put you off as it's still nice. Drinks very reasonable and food was to a good standard. Pool area was perfect as nice and quiet with great service. Other guests were 30+ which was good, not so many kids.

Walk in to the old town in 5-10 mins, would def stay again.

Room Tip: charge everything to your room , pay for a safe.

Ice been coming to this hotel every summer for 7 years now. I've ha the misfortune to see if the grass is greener at some of the 'cooler' hotels on the island but to be honest they are just over priced over hyped centres for those lacking in decorum an class.
The Plaza is a simple hotel. 5 floors of rooms with a pool an restaurant on the 6th. All the rooms (I've probably stayed in most of them by now) are well appointed and always clean.
The pool area has a great view over the Old Town and is a great place to recover from the night before with a decent coffee or decent food. There are entry of sun loungers for the sun worshippers but in high season get up there early.
The port and Old Town are literally a 5 minute walk away with all it's attractions.
The staff at this hotel are the real attraction. All of them are friendly locals that have recently picked up decent English speaking skills. I've only noticed 2 additions to the staff in the last 7 years so they must like the place too.
The hotels position isn't the most amazing but the area ha seen improvement in the last few years with te development of the old bull Ring an scrub Land opposite into a small park area and massive car park.
Stay here if you want a reasonable non party honest hotel with good service.
Don't stay here if you want to be pampered, hang your union jack towel from the balcony and expect champaign service on cava money.

I stayed here with friends for 4 nights. I had a single room which was more than big enough and had a double bed. The room was very clean and quiet. There is a safe which requires you to pay for a key at reception. There is a pool on the roof which was clean and enough sun loungers for those who wanted them.
The hotel staff were all more than friendly especially the lady working on the bar by the swimming pool.
It's just a short walk away from Ibiza town and close enough to Pacha to stroll home after a night out there.

My second time in Ibiza but my first (as a grown-up!) in the Old Town, we were looking for a reasonably priced place to chill out away from the boozy club hotels, and this is what we got.

First impressions: 1970's 'glamour' (and not in a cool, retro way!) - lots of mirrored glass, dark wood and leather furniture which makes the place look quite dated, a refit could really make a difference. But the rooms are a decent size, furnished with flat screen TVs, small mini-bars which don't charge you if you take stuff out and fill it with your own, and actual double beds (a rarity in Europe). Lots of wardrobe and drawer space, and decent sized bathroom. Hair-dryers, air conditioning that isn't too noisy and large balconys. The roof terrace is a great place to relax; a smallish pool, not a huge amount of sunbeds but we never had any problems getting two and it is sundrenched all day, and a nice covered area where you can have bar food. Breakfast downstairs had a decent selection and was miles better than the tourist trap cafes down the road. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the marina, bars, shops, the Old Town, and a 5 minute cab ride from Pacha. The taxi to the airport was about €10 plus tip.

The location and staff are this hotel's biggest asset, the barman and waitress upstairs went out of their way to make our stay lovely, always polite, smiling and helpful. They seemed to work 24 hours a day as they were at breakfast too, still smiling! I have no idea where the bad comments about staff came from - admittedly, at first it took reception staff a few minutes to warm up, and there was one man in glasses who completely ignored us when we said hello, but everyone has bad days and it isn't fair to tar the other hardworking staff with this brush. From the other reviews I guess they were groups, and while there are plenty of boozy stag-party type hotels on the island, this is NOT one of them, and I think the staff were probably just worried for the other guests. The manager was friendly and the lady on reception gave us a late check out with no charge - a fab end to a holiday.

Reasons this hotel doesn't score a 5: NO IRONS available (in a business hotel?!); the decor is dated; the 'gym' is a tiny closet with one dumbell, some very old, broken equipment and no air-con; the bar menu is quite limited and the hotel is opposite a dog park, meaning you can hear little yappy dogs barking constantly and the walls are quite thin - make of that what you will! But none of those things spoiled our holiday - if you want luxury, there a lots of other hotels in Ibiza offering this, but don't expect it if you don't want to pay for it.

If you want a decent, clean, comfortable 3-4* hotel with helpful staff in a great location and are prepared to overlook the things that, to be honest, won't matter when you're looking at photos a year later, then you could do worse than the Royal Plaza.

Don't waste your money and time here. Hotel Manager threatened to call the police on us 20 mins after checking in. We were a mature couple asking if our friend (a female) be allowed to come up to our room and wait while we shower and get ready. Leaving a female alone in any foreign city is not safe.
I even offered to pay. The hotel manager kept saying we have had 'incidience's' and that is our new policy or I can call the police. I stood there speechless. The next 3 days were uncomfortable and awkward.
Pay extra $ for a better hotel, don't ruin your vacation. Recommendation: Stay near Talamance: closer to Pasha, beach and marina.
