“The Best in Baqueira”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2012

I've staid here 3 times and will go back.
Excelent hotel. Great and helpfull staff.
We have been chosing a duplex bedroom to satys with 2 children and it proves to be very good in terms of confort and privacy with 2 beds in each floor and 2 bathrooms.
The restaurant is very good and the halfboard option is recomended.
The access to skiing is through their mini buses and it takes 2 or 3 minutes. They operate well and none waits long.

Room Tip: The duplex for families

Loved the place from start to finish .Great hotel, great staff and a top.top weekend. Great facilities including the Spa area which unfortunately is an additional 27 euros each per person but other than that i had no compleiants. Our party consisted of 19 people and we all had a great time - Just be careful of the lift doors though, they shut rather quickly and a member of our team broke a toe. Other than that I will be returning again and would recommend this for all intermediate ski-ers who like to be pampered after thye have left the slopes behind.

We stayed last year at the Himalaya hotel in Baqueira and were not impressed by the service. This time we opted for this 5 star hotel, wondering if the service was going to be better, and it was. Staff speak either French or/and English and there is a mix of Spanish/French and English customers. Overall the atmosphere is relaxed with a lot of families with young children but it does not feel too noisy nor too crowded. Bar attendants are particularly pleasant and are eager to give good service. We used the spa a couple of times and the massage were excellent, Diego in particular. It is great to be able to relax in the small but very warm pool with children after skiing but avoid 6-7 pm slot as the pool gets crowded. Breakfast is very good and so is the food in the evening. We enjoyed having the option of eating goog japanese food some of the nights. We had originally booked half board and it turned out that we had not eaten 'enough' and that it was more economical to opt for the B§B price and add the bills for dinner. The receptionist pointed this out to us as we checked out and we do appreciate that they did not try to make us pay more. But what made the stay most enjoyable was the car service between the hotel and the little ski lift and 2 very helpful Romanian staff. They carry the ski and help children (and older ones like me!) struggling to put their heavy ski shoes on. Again we would like to thank them for their help. They are the kind of people who deserve tips. Another great bonus is the ski hire shop in the hotel. Overall this hotel is a very good option in Baqueira and we'll definitely be back!

We booked this hotel because of the wonderful reviews but were quite disappointed. The superior room was average with thin walls so you could hear all your neighbors and a tiny bathroom. The appointments were good but inconsistent. Sheets were stiff and the duvet was way too heavy. Sometimes there was drinking water in the evening, sometimes not. Sometimes the room was very clean, sometimes not. The communal areas in the lobby were not very special. The Sport shop in the hotel was horrible. Unattentive, unfriendly service. The equipment was poorly maintained. The prices were 50% higher than at Baqueira skiservice which is directly at the Val de Ruda gondola and very helpful with great equipment not to mention that it is right next to Haagen Dasz for an end of ski day Affogato Viennois. The biggest problem was the location. The hotel is up the mountain so there is nowhere to walk if there is a non skier or you get snowed out, which we did in two days of our week there. The view from the rooms is okay but does not justify the extra time and stress of the mountain road to get there. The spa is small, non descript and they charge 27€ to use the sauna and steam. The best thing about this hotel is the service. They try very hard to please, especially Natalie, the lady that showed us around and looked after us. The drivers and valets as well as the dining room staff are all very good. Great breakfast buffet but dinner was disastrous. The place seems neglected and overdue for a serious upgrade. Don't really understand the great reviews. We loved Baquiera Beret for skiing and will definitely go again but probably will stay at the Marriott which looked really good, is cheaper and much more convenient.

Stay with my wife during one week. The room fantastic. The staff really nice and helpful. Lovely facilities. The size and ambient are perfect.
If you are planning to enjoy the snow, the hotel is really close to the resort. Anyway they have shuttle van from the hotel to the lift, so is weird that you need to wait more than 5 min to be taken to the lift, or from the lift to the hotel.
After several snow trips to Val d'Aran and Baqueira, until now, and without doubts, the best hotel we've stayed.

Room Tip: Occitania Junior Suite, romantic duplex with amazing views of the valley. At least the number 323

We stayed in La Pleta on a skiing trip in January 2012. Our travel agent recommended Baqueira as an alternative destination to the busier and more well known resort in Alps. Our experience did not disappoints us.

The hotel is very comfortable and lives up to its five-start tag: the rooms are stylish, modern looking, clean and well looked after; the staff is friendly and helpful; the hotel restaurants offer a wide choice of dishes from the French, Spanish and Japanese cuisine; and the spa and gym facilities are a useful bonus too.

With the benefit of a hindsight we would consider the following when booking a trip to Baqueira:

a) a car is a must for going out or exploring the area, . The hotel offers a taxi service but a weekly taxi bill would not be cheap.

b) only one of the ski lift routes is a cabin type lift with the rest being predominantly chair lifts. The hotel is 100 meters away from the closest ski lift which is of a chair type category. If you have a small child and want to take them up to the skiing area, you will most likely have to travel to the centre of Baqueira to use the ski cabin service as we found chair lifts unsafe for a three-year old.

c) there are very few activities for small children in this area. Our three-year old son was too young for skiing. We were hoping that we could use sledges instead. It turned out that the only area where we could take him to was a snow park in Beret which required a 10 minute car journey.

d) for those who have to fly there it is much easier to reach this resort via Toulouse compared with Barcelona as the car journey is shorter by an hour.

e) we noticed that the overwhelming majority of the people on the resort was from Spain. At times it was very difficult get by. Our knowledge of English, French, Russian and German was often not enough even to buy a cup of tea or get a napkin. The hotel staff fares much better although not all of them speak basic English.

f) I disagree with what was said by other reviewers about the hotel food in terms of its quality and variety. We were on a half-board plan and enjoyed every single meal that we had there. For moderate drinkers the restaurant keeps unfinished bottles of wine for the next evening. Unfortunately we found out about this during our last dinner.

g) the resort is more suitable for beginners and intermediate skiiers who will find a good mix of red and blue runs. It is further south compared with the Alps and therefore one can therefore enjoy more sunshine.
