“Fantastic holiday destination”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

My family have stayed at Wimpen's Sueno Azul many times so thought I'd write a review to say what a lovely holiday destination this is.
The well equipped villas have their own little gardens complete with BBQ and sun loungers for those not wishing to sit at the gorgeous pool. Table and chairs under a lovely wooden gazebo is the perfect place to kick back and relax . Well maintained colourful hedges provide privacy between villas.
Inside the villas the main bedroom is kept cool with patio doors which lead to the terrace area. If you find the bedroom too hot there is a large floor standing fan. Ample storage with double wardrobes and a large chest of drawers gives plenty of room to unpack. A lovely en suite with bath and shower.
The open plan lounge dining kitchen is bright and spacious with a fan above the dining room table to keep diners cool and help air circulate throughout the villa. The kitchen is well equipped for holiday makers keen to cook.
There is a further two bedrooms , one with bunk beds, large ceiling fan and ample storage and a twin bedroom again with ceiling fan and ample storage. There is a second shower room which has a washing machine. This has been a life saver when traveling with young children!
The pool area is beautiful . The perfect place to relax. It is more than big enough to accommodate guests , I have never had any problems with getting a seat beside the pool. There is a small play area for kids wishing to play pool etc. Recently a new chill out area has been installed which is lovely to sit in with a G and T from Ian and Jackie at the pool bar.
Finally, a bit about the staff. Always warm and welcoming and ready to help if you need it. Also the villas are kept beautifully clean and well maintained by conscientious staff.
All in all a lovely holiday destination

I did not recognise the review entitled 'Been to better'! Value for money, the resort represents exceptional value. We have been coming now every year for the past 15 years, and each time there is always some improvement, sometimes only minor and other times major. The villas are spotless, the reception staff very welcoming, and on the rare occasions you encounter any problems, once reported, they have always been fixed within the hour! You just don't get that in large resorts. Yes, the resort in not large, but anyone doing their homework prior to travel should realise that. And the extensive patios are well spaced out from each other, with a large table, parasol and 4 sunloungers. And my family come here too at other times of the year! Regarding the location of the fan in the lounge, it is perfectly placed underneath the dining table. With an air conditioner pushing air into the rest of the lounge, I fail to see why the fan is thought to be badly placed! Still, it just goes to show that one can''t please everyone all the time.

Room Tip: depends whether you want to be near the pool, but all villas are identical inside and suitably detac...

First time I have stayed at Sueno Azul and probably the last. For a "gold star" resort it was a bit lacking.
First of all I was asked to leave a 25 euro/week deposit for water and electricity. First time ever that I have been asked for that. Secondly, we ordered the 25 euro food package that was offered and it was only when we got to the room and found nothing that we realised that they had charged for lesser 15 euro pack and we wouldn't get most of the food and drink anyway. What we did get from them was barely edible when it came.

The villa itself was quite nice although it seemed to have been built by someone with no understanding of construction. Plug sockets are in inaccessible places with the bedrooms only having one each. Light switches are barely attached to the walls and one of the sockets in the living room shorted if you sat on the couch without pulling it out first.

There is no light in the master bedroom only bedside lamps and one of those had to be unplugged to charge our phones. There was no ceiling fan in the master bedroom either; there was a plug in stand fan but with only one plug socket, that was no use.

The living room had the light/fan right in the corner so it lit/blew onto no one. The tv showed only half of the English tv channels listed but it does have a dvd player which came in handy.

The patio has no privacy due to you only being separated from the footpaths by a small hedge. Beyond that was a communal grassy area that was used at night by the local dogs as a latrine. This made flies quite a problem to the point where if you sat outside it looked like everyone had nervous twitches.

The pool area is tiny. Good enough to cope when it is quiet but if the resort gets busy then I presume you all just stand next to each other in the pool and look around awkwardly like people on a train do.

Its not all doom and gloom though. The bar is excellent. The food there is fantastic and the prices are good. The bar staff are very friendly and, unlike other places I have stayed, actually speak English. Some bars I have been to you ask for a juice/squash/cordial for the kids and they look at you like you're growing another head. The Wednesday BBQ is magnificent. A salad buffet and then the meat comes over. A big sausage, a giant chicken leg, a steak and a pork chop per person. Doesn't matter where I stay in Tenerife, from now on I'll be there on a Wednesday for the BBQ.

In conclusion. Stay somewhere else but go there for the bar. The bar there is without a doubt the best in Callao Salvaje and yes, I have tried all the others.

Room Tip: Tropical Park is across the road so you can easily walk across to the bar.

Thank you for your comments and we are disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay. In response to the points you raise:
1) RCI exchange guests are required to pay utility fees on site which is standard practice across timeshare resorts especially in the Canary Islands due to the high costs of local water/electricity. The RCI catalogue clearly states which resorts this is applicable to and so you would have known this in advance before choosing Sueño Azul for your exchange.
2) The Food Packs are optional and if you had complaints about the contents then reception would have been more than happy to refund the cost if you had returned the items and outlined the reasons for disatisfaction. Unfortunately you did not.
3) With regards to the fans, the villa also has Air Con available.
4) The resort tries to maintain a good choice of UK tv channels but some times the strength of the satellite signals are beyond our control and can be affected by weather.
5) We have received no complaints regarding flies at the resort.
6) The pool area is small but adequate for the 33 villas Sueño Azul comprises of.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the bar facilities and we would welcome you again should you wish to use the bar in future visits to the village of Callao Salvaje

Joined my sister and husband at very minute last October. It was all done in such a rush I didn't know what to expect (booked at 7pm one night and flew the next afternoon). What a wonderful surprise awaited me!

The bungalows are beautiful, spaciious, well appointed and immaculately clean. The fridge/freezer kept our wine nicely chilled, and the washing machine meant we took everything home clean. We had a breakfast in the bar one morning which was very nice indeed. Other than that, we ate out. The resort is small but there was plenty to keep us entertained. The walk back up the hill is a bit dodgy on the legs after a few shandies, but we managed hey ho!

A marvellous place. Would highly recommend. Going back in November. What more can I say?

Stayed here for short winter break with family.
Lovely time had by all. Bungalow big enough for four adults and two children. Pool not large but was not busy at this time and empty most days.
Restaurant good on site and Ian the perfect host. Menu varied enough even with two non meat eaters in our party. We also shared a win in the quiz on BBQ night.
Very clean and tidy. Staff friendly and quick to book in and out.
Enough eating places away from resort.
Would go back again.

Room Tip: We had Bungalow 23 right opposite the pool.

Just had a Xmas break here and found the villa's furnished to a high standard and found it very comfortable for 4 people. The villa was spotless and the maid visited twice during the week. The pool area is very small and if during the summer months the resort was full, it could be a problem if alot of people wanted to use it. The local area has improved since we last visited it in 2009 and seemed busier. A car is advisable if you want to get out and about. I have used Economy Care Hire on a few trips abroad recently and found them excellent. Hope you have a good time.
