We stayed at the Hotel from 16/8/2013 to 24/8/2013. Had a surprise when we arrived at 24.30 to find food available for those who had arrived late which was welcomed and the beach full of people as it was Festival week which we were not aware of on booking. The hotel is right on the beach which was brilliant, quite a selection of food although sometimes on the cool side, there was enough choice for our party of 4, even though one can't eat dairy or tomatoes and the other prefers vegetarian. We chose to eat in the bottom bar as it was more relaxed and cooler than the main restaurant. I would agree with a previous review that although the waitresses and waiters were efficient, some could do with a few more smiles, but maybe its been a long season. We initially had one of the rooms with no balcony and with air conditioning that was not effective. On asking about this at reception a hotel workman came the next day telling us that it was 23 degrees on cool and he could not mend it. On returning to the reception to see what could be done about this, a male receptionist with black hair asked if my query was urgent, as he was eating his dinner and to come back when the head receptionist was in but that wouldn't be for a couple of days. Not the reception I was expecting so went back the next day and spoke to two female receptionists who were very pleasant and helpful. Eventually we were moved to a room with a balcony and working air conditioning. Great area for snorkelling and if you walk round the coast at the back of the hotel, you will come to a small bay of rocks which is great with plenty of fish to see in waters you can stand up in, although the best time to get there to beat the crowds is around 15.30. Spent the days relaxing and swimming. Tried to visit the Caves of Drach but on arriving at 11.30 the 12 noon slot was full and the next would be 13.00 so we decided to go to the beach at Porto Cristo as it was so hot and there were so many people. Lovely waters and beach and more up-market that S'Illot. Leather handbags for 20 euros! Bargain! Great holiday if you take it as it comes, it is a 3 star but plenty of food and drink, clean rooms, sunshine and warm sea so we could not have asked for more from a last minute holiday, for what we paid.

Room Tip: If you book a sea view, the balconies are at an angle to the sea and do not face the sea as the sea...

Reviewed August 27, 2013

This hotel was offered as an alternative to our selected hotel as this was overbooked.
The reviews were not great so I wanted to give an honest account and review of our 5 day all inclusive holiday 21-26th August 2013.

Hotel - This is a 3 star hotel and that rating is about right, it is not plush but it is comfortable and you have to say very clean. The reception is open 24 hours and staffed by helpful people. The layout of the hotel is reception, pool bar and lounge with seating, TV and computers for internet access at 1 euro per 15 minutes. The pool is small with around 20 sunbeds but as it is beach side we never used the pool. The pool bar area is where the entertainment is provided by evening cabaret acts, ie. singer/keyboards and so on. There are 2 restaurants one on the 1st floor level with reception and one at beach level with sliding doors out onto the beach.

Rooms - There were 3 of us including my 15 year old daughter so the room was a double bed and a single bed with en-suite bathroom. It is basic but very clean and we had a balcony with side sea-view, the balcony had 2 x plastic chairs and a table, The room had a small TV with Spanish and English news channels and Viva on it. There was a build in mirrored wardrobe with hanging and drawer space and a safe that was charged for if required. There was also a small wall table and chair and bedside cupboards. The room had centrallised air conditioning for heating and cooling and it worked well with a temperature controller and fan speed control. The air conditioning worked if the balcony door was closed, which is sensible. The bathroom was of reasonable size with bath, overhead shower, toilet and sink with large mirror over with decent lighting and an electrical socket for my shaver and a hairdryer (vital for the ladies). Beds were firm but comfortable, we asked for extra pillows and received them. The curtains are heavy and basically blackout so it is very dark in the room even in the morning - helps the sleep!

Room Cleaning - The room service was great, the rooms were swept and tidied every day and the towels replaced every day if you put them in the bath. The room was always clean. Toilet rolls - plentiful!

Food - Buffet style food was provided most of the day and night, self service in one of the two restaurants, you take your pick. The food was different most days with 5 or 6 main dishes or a mixture of what you wanted, large salad bar, soup, fresh rolls and baguettes, fresh fruit and sweets that changed slightly each day. Ice creams from a freezer and fruit drinks and tea and coffee. There is a bar on the lower floor so alcohol if required. Chips are available with every meal and this has been referred to in other reviews but I would say this is ideal for fussy kids and a few chips are always useful, my 15 year old had them the 1st day when looking at the other dishes being very suspicious of any "foreign" food, by day 2 she was tucking into all of the other dishes and enjoying it. The food is varied with pasta (different every day) as a safe option for the less adventurous but also local dishes with fish, paella, roast meats, lamb, turkey, chicken, shell fish dishes. Breakfasts were good with the usual sausages, bacon, eggs (hard boiled, fried, scrambled, omelette), fresh DIY toast, fresh fruit and yoghurts, croissants, pain au chocolat, cheese, ham etc. It is of good quality and no complaints from any of us.

Drinks - all inclusive was as such with all drinks free from morning to night at 12pm when the pool bar shut. All alcohol was free, local spirits included as were cocktails, not the best cocktails but acceptable, everything is served in plastic or paper cups but that is because you will either be poolside or on the beach and thus the safety aspect. Beer is Amstel and cold so no complaints and you can drink as much as you like! Best coffee is in the pool bar as it is made properly unlike the other areas where is it via a machine (acceptable though).

Location - This hotel is really on the beach, go out of the beach bar restaurant and you walk over the promenade/path and you are on the beach, the beach itself is fine sand, the sea clear and clean, there are some pebbles/small rocks to walk over in the surf for about 6 metres so be careful walking over it and then it is shallow and all sand on the sea bed. There are no water sports on this beach, there is a small boat marina but that is not really for tourist use as I saw it and was to one end on the rocks. There is a life guard station centrally located on the beach.

Resort - S'illot is a small resort with bars and restaurants along the sea front, it has everything you need close by, as you walk along you pass over a large footbridge into Sa Coma which is the next door resort and next bay and beach, they are really one continuous resort. The Sa Coma beach is larger and deeper, less or little pebbles and bigger hotels with more people. The banks and more shops are here as well as the water sports, parasailing 45Euro for 1, 70Euro for dual lift - great fun and worth doing, banana ride 10Euro etc.

Staff - I cannot fault the attitude of the staff, they were all happy and helpful, every "thank you" said by us was met by a "you're welcome" from them, the restaurant staff were truly fantastic and efficient.

Additional - our daughter celebrated her 15th birthday during the holiday, we did not tell the hotel but on the day, a plate of cakes was delivered to the room with a lovely letter from the hotel wishing her a very happy birthday, lovely touch!

Summary - We were all sceptical of this hotel but after our 5 days I would say that they are a 3 star hotel and what they do, they do really well, the staff are attentive and helpful and very polite, every request was met with a smile, it is clean, well run and the food is great. Would I go back??? I would tomorrow if I could and we all say the same, that is not a bad recommendation. Well done!

Room Tip: Side room with balcony had sun all evening, street below active with usual passers by and not noisy...

We got back on the 24/O8/13 after spending a wonderful week at this hotel. Our room was beautiful, on the side of the hotel with a balcony . The hotel was spotlessly clean and the maid came every day and did a superb job. The food was far better than we expected, a brilliant choice each mealtime, with snacks served In between, I went out of my way to congratulate the Chef for doing such a great job ! Even a cold lunch was out for us when we arrived after midnight. The hotel is right on the beach, we went all inclusive, so it was super to be able to pop back in and get cold drinks and snacks. We enjoyed going for walks in the evening and also caught the bus from the nearby stop and had a couple of days out. The place is lovely, not at all rowdy and the staff were lovely. Unfortunately we left our keys at the hotel, and they have a no returns policy, so getting taxis and a locksmith out to our vehicle stuck at the airport has proved an expensive mistake £280 so far....However, despite this we are hoping to repeat this holiday next August (and pick up our lost property hopefully)

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony if its important to you before you go.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Catalonia Colombo hotel from 16/8/13 to the 23/8/13, all inclusive. Rooms were ok and kept well, maid was in every day and bedding changed once while we were there. I had emailed ahead to request a room with a balcony because I read that there are some rooms which do not have much of a view, I don’t know wether this made a difference or not because I didn’t email till the day before arrival, anyway the room we got was excellent! Thanks!
Food was good, not loads of choices but what was there was very good, I don’t think there was anything there I couldn’t eat and there’s also snacks on outside of normal dining hours.
It was the best week for us to stay, because of the local celebrations were on at the time with beach party/disco and other events on during the week.
The swimming pool is very small but who needs it when the hotel is so close to the beach.
The sunbeds and parasols on the beach are 4 euros each, a lot of people were buying lilo’s and parasols from the shops and leaving them next to the pool for others to use when they left.
The beach itself is lovely, gentle sloping sands and warm water, very safe I thought.
Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Columbo, very nice hotel for three stars.
The staff are also very smart and polite.

Booked the holiday a week before leaving and just wanted a week in the sun all inclusive break. Wanted a pool and near the beach and couldn't have asked for more. 200 yards from the front door was the beach and there was a nice pool which we always managed to get a sunbed on even though we went in the middle of August.
Food was adequate and edible but would understand that if you had someone who was a little fussy or unwilling to try new food it would be difficult. We found everything ok, one tip though is lunch is better than dinner.
The rooms were fine and was surprised to find air conditioning in a three star hotel which worked brilliantly. Everything was clean and tidy and our rooms were cleaned every day if you remembered to put the sign outside the door.
Staff were there to help you if you asked and waiters were efficient but they were all a little standoffish and lacked smiles and good mornings that you normally get. Even the reception staff lacked a hello if they saw you passing by, but if asked for help or advice they were pleasant and efficient.
Forget the evening entertainment. We have never laughed so much because it was like the X-Factor auditions where they show the terrible people. There was a procession of middle aged blokes with backing tracks and guitars, singing to the same old tracks each night, it started at 9 and PROMPTLY at 11 they stopped, then the bar staff hurried around to clear up before the lights were turned out at 12 and you were encouraged to go to bed.
All in all you get exactly what you need, there is more food than you can eat, there is drink when you want it, the pool clean and the beach is right on hand with a welcoming sea breeze. The only thing missing a a soul, although saying that I would go back.

Room Tip: We heard of some people who did not have balconies and even a couple who did not have a window. We...

We stayed at this hotel for a 8 nights. In spite of the fact, that we read in the Advisortripe.com some complains to this hotel, and in addition, that was our the „Super last minute“, that was the one of the best of our holiday.

From the airport we came to the hotel about 00:30 after midnight and the staff had the refreshment for us which was prepared in the dining room.

Is truth the entrance of the hotel has got only the doorsteps without posibility to slide comfortable your baggages. Nevertheless, that was not problem for us.

Despite the fact, that the balcony of our room (on the third floor) was oriented to the aisle, we hade a nice view to the sea. Room had been cleaned every day including change the tovels.

Dining rooms are without air conditioning. It was a little bit horrible feeling if we can not to have an enough time to taste a very good food. The air had been ussualy stucked without oxygen. At the ground floor´s dinnig room had been a little bit better situation because there is an entrance to the path and the air can be moved. But at the second floor´s dining room were ussualy the races to obtain the tables nearby to the windows opened appx. 10 cm.

The pool is really small, fits to baby and small chidren, but our son (7) enjoyed that every day. For adults is not very comfortable in order to swimm. Only for having to the relax. Number of sunbeds and umbrellas respons to the size of the pool. Pool was cleaned every day, early morning.

The hotel is situated, let say, directly on the beach. You can go appx. 20 meters, cross the path and you are on the sand. That was very advantage for us because one of us could be with son at the pool and the second could swimm in the sea. The store which offers the water, beer, vine and etc is situated on the corner (20 meters), opened from 08:00 a.m. to 09:p.m.

In addition, we appreciate the professional access of the reception´s staff to us. Just the same, we would like to send the special thanks to waitresses Mrs Carmen, Mrs Mercedes, Mr Julio and Ms Katya (Czech republic) for their high level services and their everyday´s nice smile.

If we choose a next holiday destination we are counting really with Catalonia Colombo hotel.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel 10-17th August, we had booked Half Board but upgraded on arrival to All Inclusive for £12.50 per person per night, well worth doing so. Check in and out was fine, all the staff were all pleasant enough, although some had better English than others, but a quick 'Hola' got them on your side straight away!

The room we had was the closest room to the beach in the hotel, so we had a lovely (side) beach view, room had a huge bed and was spotless (as was the whole hotel), the maids cleaned the room every day with clean towels as required and bedding changed during the week also. We know we were lucky as some people had 'dungeon rooms with no balcony'. I had emailed in advance and asked for a balcony and sea view, they replied saying they'd do their best but depended on availability so not sure it wasn't just luck that got us our room.

The food was good, not always hot, but the microwave was there if you wanted it heated up, always replenished quickly and enough choice every night to put a meal together, always a veggie option, meat, fish and usually a chicken option too. They did a 'local dish' too, which was great especially the paella most lunchtimes. The snack bar was fine with burgers, hot dogs etc available most of the day.

The hotel is at the very end of S'illot but being just feet away from the beach made it the perfect location as you could nip up and get drinks to go back to the beach, neighbouring Sa Come over the bridge is a bit livelier but most of the buzz there is a few streets back from the promenade.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to beach lovers who want low key entertainment; we were out til 2.30am most mornings, so you can still have fun, but mostly in bars and restaurants - if you're looking for Magaluf style entertainment, don't book this resort.

We loved our holiday and for the first time ever admitted we could stay longer and didn't want to come home, so much so, that my partner says he wants to book again for next year.
