Big Village Hotel
Ranked #5 of 10 Skala B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 31, 2012

Stayed here at the end of July 2012 for a week. Hotel is modern and clean, yet still fits in to the traditional village. It has a great location with the beach easily accessible via a flight of stairs and all the resorts bars, restaurants within a few minutes walk. Our room was spacious and comfortable and was cleaned each day. The room had a fridge and kettle which came in very handy. Breakfast was fine although we would have liked a greater variety and fresh fruit. The owners were friendly and helpful, lending me her hairdryer when the one in my room didn't work. Lovely swimming pool and loungers and the food at the poolside bar was fine. Was a bit disappointed that we had to pay extra to use the a/c - wouldn't have been able to sleep without out!

Room Tip: The first floor rooms have balconies that look over the pool. The ground floor ones have balconies...

Just returned from 10 days at the big village agree entirely with the previous review. The hotel is very relaxed and friendly. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. Nice to see the owners children enjoying the pool in the evening a real family hotel. As a follow on from the previous review the sunbed mats arrived the day you left.

just had a week at the big village hotel returning 17th june. we found the place very relaxed, nothing was to much trouble for the staff. breakfast was pleasant and enough on hot days.
plenty of sun beds although no mats on them. very well situated, and everything nearby.
the staff made us feel very welcome and treated us like family. we had a large room, that had a balcony both sides so you could sit in the sun or the shade all times of the day. the cockerel crowing across the road might wake some people but you get used to him!

We stayed at the Big Village last summer, it is a lovely hotel in a great spot - ideal for walking into Skala and to the beach, both of which are only a few minutes away. The rooms are very clean and light and the family and staff are friendly and helpful.

The only issue we had was that the swimming pool did look a bit grotty on some days and three people had eye infections whilst we were there! Great shame, as all the other facilities were clean and well maintained.

When we arrived the owner came out to greet us, she was very friendly and welcomed us to Greece. Out room was big and spacious and very clean with air-conditioning which helped alot at night. During the day we stayed by the pool which is wonderful for meeting new people and the views were amazing! Also the pool bar was a great place to relax. Overall the people were friendly and the room was amazing! Definately worth going here on your next holiday!!!

Stayed 2 weeks self catering. Owner very friendly and changed our room allocation at our request, as well as extending use of room on last day. Appreciated as had a late flight.

Pool area is small and can become quickly dominated by kids! So maybe not best poolside for just couples. But easy escape to nearby beach via short walk downhill from hotel.

Breakfast is basic and does not vary across 2 weeks. We had breakfast out some days at local cafe for a change.

Hired a car and lots to see on island but hilly and some exciting hairpin bends to try out.

First time to skala and having visited Greece before was expecting the norm but was very pleased with the hotel and staff who made us all feel welcome. Irene is a perfect host and nothing is too much trouble hotel is perfect for location to shops & beach both within a few mins walking distance. Pool area is clean and hosed down every morning ready for 9 am opening. Breakfast is served from 8.30 onwards so you can have a lie in if you like recommend the old village taverna on the main street look out for the crazy waiter Danny made our visits so much more fun and the food is excellent.
We hired a car and visited most of the island recommend Sami for an ice cream and wherever you go try a Gyros .. Yum yum
Overall a fantastic holiday with a great clean and friendly hotel who made us all welcome in fact so welcome booked for next year, roll on 2012
