About to return home for the second year here, its fab! Rooms spotless, nothing too much trouble. Excellent location 10min flat walk to beach, we use the next door pool at Elina a lot as we had it to ourselves it's so quiet. Andreas at the bar is very friendly as are the owners. Rooms good sized, we had a 3 bed studio, modern & spotless. Skala is a gorgeous resort, beach fab sunbeds 6 euro but we stayed mostly on the Milos bar ones and had 3 which because we had drinks there every day, he only charged us 6. Food in this resort is amazing, we've never had a bad meal ever! It's very good quality. Boat trip from the main rd to the island of Ithika was beautiful & good value day out. Don't come here if you want nightclubs & rowdy nights. Come if you want beautiful surroundings, excellent food and amazing cocktails. Sally's bar & Captains bar for cocktails Mithos Beach bar, El Greco, Socrates, Aquarius all serve very good food. Parasailing & such on beach. Booking again! :-)

This hotel is immaculately kept. The owners and staff cannot do enough for you to make your stay as pleasant and enjoyable as possible, without every being over bearing. You will never find anything out of place, untidy or looking dishevelled. The rooms are basic, but adequate for sleeping and cleansing. The pool is quiet, the bar well stocked and open from 8am till midnight. The snacks and breakfast are light and competitively price. If you want peace and quiet with excellent customer service then the Marietta is for you.

My daughter stayed at this hotel a few years ago and recommended it to me and my partner as a quiet and relaxing place to stay. The hotel owner was very accommodating and apologised she was unable to fulfull my request for a low room due to my partner being unable to negotiate stairs very well. However was able to move us too room 2 from room 8 within two days absolutely brilliant.
Don't panic if your room is not cleaned on a thursday this does appear to be the maid's day off.
Quiet location within 5 minutes walk of centre of Skala where the shops, bars and restaurants are located. Avoid the bakeries, unless you want to put on weight, fresh warm bread and cakes were delicious.

Room Tip: If you don't like steps block A rooms 1 to 10 are the best bet

Had 1st 2 weeks of June in Kefalonia. We enjoyed it more this time than 5 years ago, which we put down to the accommodation. The Marietta has clean spacious rooms with friendly staff. The pool, bar and other areas were also clean and tidy.
The Hotel is set on a hill with the pool area at the bottom of the hill and the appartments on the hill.
The Marietta is about 3/4 of a mile from the centre of Skala which makes a pleasent walk at night after a meal in one of the many quality restaurant/tavernas. As we were self catering we very much enjoyed the evening strolls.
The beach is stoney at Skala but as we are not beach people that did not matter.
We had several pleasant walks into the surounding countryside were we met some friendly holiday makers doing the same as us.
All in all a very good holiday destination which we will return to sometime in the future. Also one I would recommend to anyone.
The only down side to the holiday was the hight of the a/c units on the balcony which were rather low and which I gashed my head on once.(but only once)

Very happy with the hotel and would recommend to everyone.

Positives:
-Excellent long & clean pool, perfect for families and swimming lengths
-Lovely surrondings covered by flowers, palm trees and pastel colours
-View from our room (room33) was lovely looking over the complex and out into the distant rolling hills.
-Very short walk into the resort centre and beach
-Very clean room and thoroughly cleaned once a day
-Onsite bar
-Breakfast available (but basic)
-Resort suited us well, good atmosphere. Plenty of lovely restaurants and a couple of decent bars
-Recommend hiring a car to explore the island
-Very informative tour rep and friendly hotel staff

Negatives:
-Slight smell from drains but the sewers are Victorian
-AirCon was 7euro a night but energy prices in Greece are high

Firstly, I would just say I am well travelled and have had many types of holiday over the years; camping, moitorhome, hotels and self catering. I also know the problems of Greek plumbing.
Marietta Hotel is very attractive to look at, and has a very nice pool and bar area. The bar staff were very friendly. We stayed there from 25th June to 9th July.
Our room was spacious and kept very clean. Sheets and towels were changed three times during our stay.
However, be warned if your room number is 50+, you have a very long climb up many stairs to get there, and on arrival we had no help with our luggage. We were greeted by the receptionist and 'blanked' by the proprietor, who remained aloof throughout our holiday.
We were offered air conditioning in our room at an extra cost of 7 euros per day, and decided against it; opting to leave our french doors open at night, as we thought it was too expensive. Unfortunately, our balcony was side on to the one next door, which afforded little privacy and we were treated to the 'nightime sounds' of the inhabitants, along with the cigarette smoke which blew straight into our room. That and the constant barking of a local dog made sleeping very difficult.
The bathroom, which again, was kept very clean, had a continuous smell coming up from drain in the floor. We complained, and had a visit from maintenance, but it persisted. We told the maid, who said that many rooms had the same problem, and suggested we cover the drain with a plastic bag - which did the trick. We asked to move, but were told they were full. Like a previous review - we weren't offered to move as rooms became free. We reported the problem to our Thomas Cook rep. No response!
Skala - it wasn't for me. We booked a tour of the island, Kefalonia is beautiful, and we saw more picturesque places I would rather have stayed. Also if you don't hire a care, there are next to no buses. There is one to Argostoli at 9.00 am, which returns at 2.30 p.m, and one to Poros at 11.40 a.m., which returns at 4.30 p.m. We didn't discover this until later in the holiday as our reps information was wrong, and took advantage of the bus to Poros a few times. It is very picturesque and we preferred it to Skala, even though the beach is stones.
All that said, we had an enjoyable holiday - aways making the best out of a situation, but I wouldn't go back to Marietta or to Skiala. Kefalonia - YES!

Stayed at the Marietta, 14 - 28 May this year. We had room 15....no complaints, it's spacious, great balcony...though others staying did complain about their rooms being cramped and with no view. If you're looking to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet with no screaming kids then this is the place for you!!
Good location just a 5 minute stroll from the village. Great choice of bars & restaurants ...lovely relaxed vibe. Highly recommend Akris Bar for cocktails...much better than the Captains (they are ok but not a patch on the Akri!)

Room Tip: Room 15! Good room, sunny balcony
