The number of guests who return again and again to this hotel is testimony to its pleasant and obliging staff, facilities, service, cleanliness and location. So many of the hotel facilities are included which are often charged as extras elsewhere - safe, aircon, fridge, courtesy room with towels/soap/shower on departure day, and for all previous reviewers who moaned about one pillow - did you actually ask for another? We did, and it was immediately provided. It is so well situated right opposite the beach yet within a short walk from numerous good and reasonably priced restaurants. We cannot sit in the hot sun - and boy, was it hot! - but this was not a problem with plenty of large umbrellas around the pool area and no shortage of sunbeds. There was entertainment of excellent quality on one evening, by the pool bar. We particularly enjoyed eating at 'The Pines' which we thought had the best food. A day's boat excursion to Ithaka with Captain Vangelis Cruises which left from Skala beach was very enjoyable and well organised. I would not recommend this resort for families with young children as the beach is stony near and in the water and slopes steeply in depth, but for adults of all ages it was ideal.

We were having a very enjoyable 10 day holiday at the Makis Hotel with our family. The hotel was clean, rooms adequate (Greek style - not perfect but acceptable) and friendly staff including Denis on the few times we saw him.. Our enjoyment was brought to an abrupt end on the 8th day when at around 6.30pm whilst sitting by the swimming pool watching our grandchildren, son-in-law and two other friends play ball in the swimming pool, the owner/manager ? Denis appeared and shouted at the children asking why the tiles at the side of the pool were wet. When the children started to explain he shouted 'shut up'. Our son-in-law started to explain that the ball was retrieved from the side of the pool but Denis who by this time was in a rage and shouted 'shut up' again. His body language was extremely aggressive and totally uncalled for. Our Grand daughter who has special needs was very upset and frightened by his actions as were the two teenage girls playing with her - a very disturbing experience for us all. HOW DO YOU KEEP THE TILES DRY ON THE SIDE OF THE POOL WHEN YOU NEED TO GET OUT ??
There was no explanation or apology from Denis & this incident ruined the remainder of our holiday. The Thomson rep witnessed the whole episode and stated that his actions were unacceptable. Other guests who witnessed this incident all agreed they would not return to the Makis.

A great trip and a nice, clean hotel. Stayed at the Makis on a friends recommendation and have to say it was a great stay. For those who have been to Greece before you know the drill with apartment rooms. Hard bed and one pillow however, when you go away you know it isn't a home from home. Rooms were cleaned daily with a couple of towel and linen changes in the 10 days I stayed. Breakfast was included and though it didn't change in variety over the course of the trip - cereals/bread/toast/cold meats/cheese/boiled eggs and fresh fruit and yogurt - there was plenty of it and was unlimited. Great breakfast time as could be served until 10. A plus for the late sleepers.

Rooms are basic but clean. A little updating would not do this place any harm but all in all the room was functional. The addition of air con and the safe were great. Its been a few years since I have been to kefalonia and last time we had to pay for both (at another resort) so I see this as a big plus.

Bar and poolside area are both good and this hotel is close to the sea with their own sunbed area (5 euros for two beds).

Staff were all friendly and chatty. Didn't have any issues with Dennis

All in all a great stay and when I am back on the island would be happy to look this place out again if in that location.

We arrived at the hotel and were impressed with the room we were given for my daughter who is disabled. It was a room with a wet room which was perfect. The other two rooms for the rest of the family were fine apart from the usual Greek problems! The staff were very friendly especially the Girls serving at lunchtime and Angelos at night. The breakfast was adequate and if you are imaginative you can come with a different variation each day! The location of the hotel was perfect with everything to hand and plenty of restaurants to choose from. Everything was going well until the second to last day when my two children and two other children who were also staying at the hotel were playing ball in the pool having a great time. My son had to get out of the pool a couple of times to retrieve the ball and so this caused a little water to spill on the side no more than if you were exiting the pool. Suddenly Denis the owner/manager appeared and started talking aggressively at my son, at first all of the adults and the Thomson Rep who had just arrived thought he was joking in a Greek way, but this wasn't the case and he then started shouting so aggressively at them accusing my son of diving in the pool all because of the small amount of water on the side of the pool. My husband and a few other adults tried to tell him that he wasn't diving and tried to explain, but he was in such a rage by now it was the most awful experience for all concerned. My daughter and another child were so upset, they had nightmares and all the children were afraid to be on their own. I was left shaking as it was just so aggressive and unnecessary. The Rep was shocked by his behaviour and Angelos went around the pool apologising to the guests for his behaviour. The next day he followed us trying to intimidate us, if this had happened earlier in the holiday we would of had to have moved hotel. It was such a shame as we would of returned but never again and other guests who witnessed his behaviour would not take their families there.

We have been visiting the Island for 20 years, and when the Makis Hotel was built in 2003 we kept saying we must stay here. We always spent our days round the pool. Two years ago we decided to stay there. The best thing we ever did. Dennis the owner is a real character. The rooms are clean with lovely views. They are cleaned daily. The cleaning staff are Philopinos and we have never seen people working so hard. Breakfast is a treat, you have so much of a selection you have trouble deciding what you want, there are peaches with gorgeous natural greek yoghurt, melon, meats, cheese, cereal, eggs, cake and toast. Eating your breakfast in the open air or inside makes it a relaxing experience. The pool is lovely as is th Bar, the staff go out of their way to serve you snacks, cold drinks etc. All this and the fact that you have the best of both worlds with the pool and the beach a few steps across the road me and my husband would recommend this Hotel time and time again, and there are no extras as Air Condioning and safe are included in package. So come on you out there. Pay the Makis a visit, Dennis is waiting for you.

Room Tip: If you want stunning views of the Sea you need to stay in the front Block.
