We first visited Kefalonia in 2005 and literally fell in love with the place!
After hearing from previous guests of the Nine Muses, and reading the reviews, we decided to give it a try.
We got married last September, and so this was our honeymoon… and what a honeymoon it was!
We arrived at Kefalonia and were met by the First Choice rep. We had booked car hire from the airport as we’re not too keen on the long coach transfer (lots of hills and winding roads, not good after a 5.30am flight)
We picked up our car from Hertz (4 door automatic) and drove to the Nine Muses in Skala. We walked into reception and was given a very warm welcome by Angel. She explained about the hotel, their commitment to the environment and gave us lots of information. Our cases were taken to our room… which was in the Thalia building overlooking the pool - number 201.
The room was very clean, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space with an adequate amount of hangers. There were drink making facilities, with kettle, cups, glasses, spoons, along with a small fridge. There is also a safety deposit box that you can hire (we paid 18 euros for the week)
The patio door had a fly screen across it so you could air the room without insects getting in. Air conditioning was included but we only needed this a couple of times. The air conditioning unit won’t work unless the patio door and windows are closed (there is a sensor on it)
The balcony overlooked the pool and bar area but there was plenty of privacy as it had jasmine growing around it, which smelt absolutely gorgeous! On the balcony you had a table, 2 chairs and a small clothes drier (and occasional visits from the local sparrows)
The bathroom had enclosed power shower, with plenty of hot water (unusual for Greece) and towels.
The whole complex was very accessible, even for someone with limited mobility, with lowered curbs and ramps.
We were on a bed and breakfast basis, and this was at Aeolos restaurant which works in partnership with the Nine Muses. The food was absolutely amazing, along with the view out to sea. I could definitely have my breakfast like that every morning! Choices were tea, coffee, orange juice, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, pastries, toast, boiled eggs, cheese and ham… you could eat as little or as much as you wanted. Some people may want a bit more variation but for us it was just right, plus if you wanted a cooked breakfast you could pay for one.
We ate here quite often as guests staying at the Nine Muses got a 10% discount, even then we’d still eat here as the food is out of this world! You especially have to try the lamb and feta, or the Spetsofai. We also ate at the Nine Muses Vesta bar. Their Greek salad is gorgeous, as is their non-alcoholic fruit cocktail.
The staff at Nine Muses and Aeolos made our stay perfect, they have such pride in what they do, and whether you’re a first time visitor, or this is your seventh visit, you are treated like an old friend.
One of the things that we truly liked about the Nine Muses, is the book club… it is such a novel idea (scuse the pun!) and there were plenty of choices to choose from. On the days we had rain, we sat in the lounge, with a hot chocolate and a book.
The pool area was very clean, the water crystal clear with plenty of sun loungers and the beach was literally across the road if you fancied a change.
