Lovely Villa style rooms a variety of pastel colours, beautiful flowers gardens and pots.
Fantastic staff, very hardworking and efficient. Lovely pools and bar area. We tried the connecting Avra restaurant and gave it 10/10. Breakfast was continental and adequate nothing special, you pay for extras a tad disappointing if i was being ulta critical.
Our room looked unused almost brand new with a fantastic courtyard view we were initially delighted. After a four hour delay due to Greek airstaff we went to bed having dined in the Avra.During the night I was constantly irritated by a noise similar to a washing machine, throbbing - resonnating through out our bedroom, upon investigation it was established that we were above the boiler room. I went bleary eyed to reception the following morning and asked what they could do for us. The receptionist said they would turn it off - they didnt, we were eventually moved after three nights - i loathe complaining and was grateful they helped us. I was as polite as possible, i dont think they were happy with our request and this attitude made us feel uncomfortable. However, I cant believe this has not happened before, the boiler room also doubles as the caretakers workshop during daytime. I can only assume the Brits that frequent this place, just put up with things like this.
We still enjoyed our holiday and the hotel and dont want to sound too negative as this is a very well run hotel. I would say the 9 Muses is most suitable for couples. The children staying here seemed bored no allurements for their needs here i.e. no inflatibles allowed for the pool, noise seems frowned upon by some guests, its just mainly a nice relaxing hotel to unwind and chill.
The best restaurant was between the Avra and Flamingo's. All the restaurants in Skala were pretty good. A little gem is the Sunrise the last one along the beach -great views and fresh fish cooked superbly.
A little bit of a bad start but overall excellent.

This hotel lived up to all the good reviews we had read. It is in a superb location, just across the beach (six euros a day for two beds and umbrella) which is stones not sand so do take some beach shoes. The room we had was excellent; clean, comfortable with plenty of storage space; there was also a fridge and a kettle. The continental breakfast was fine and included a lovely fresh fruit salad; full English was available at an extra cost. The staff were all efficient, helpful and friendly; Amanda and Mikey deserve a special mention. This was our first visit and we would definitely like to return.

Stayed here for a week in early July. It is one of the best hotels that we have stayed at . The public areas are spotless, the staff are friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Many of the other guests were making their third or fourth stay at this hotel, and it seemed to be regarded as the best in the area. We stayed towards the back of the hotel, with the front door of the apartment facing the 'junior' pool, but with a good sea view. The room was spotless and thoroughly cleaned daily. The lower pool looks too small, but is fine for the number of guests and there were spare loungers in the grassed area to the side of the pool if you wanted more shade, and also plenty of loungers on the beach for 5 or 6 euros (depending on the quality of the sand and the proximity to a beach bar). There are plenty of places to eat in Skala, there are two good taverna's to the left of the hotel (as you face the sea) and a good variety in the town which no more than 300 metres away. We used the water taxi to Ketalios (25E return for the two of us) and a day trip to Ithaki (two stops, plus two swim stops) with 'Captain Vangelis' from the beach outside the hotel [Good value and cheaper than the operators tour]
We ate breakfast at the hotel, but no other meals there, so I can only comment on the breakfast, which was ok, but slightly repetative, though there was the option for a full english if you felt the need.
This is a hotel that we will return to.

We have just returned from this wonderful hotel set along side the beach in Skala, the hotel is very clean throughout with great staff all round. It retains a quiet atmoshpere and is perfect for those wanting a quiet break away from lifes worries. I would not recommend this hotel for those looking for a party life style. The hotel benefits from a revamped resturant at the front along with a new bar run very well by the lovely Amanda, for those who have been before do not worry Mickey is still on the pool bar until late or very late on some occasions!!

A first rate hotel for those wanting a quiet break, yet only 5 minutes from the village centre

Just returned from 2 weeks at the 9 Muses and can honestly say it is one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in, certainly on a par with a 5 star hotel, but much more personal and friendly.  Our room was almost facing the little chapel and it was so nice to sit and watch the weddings that took place almost daily.  The whole complex, which is in a village style with lovely gardens, was very clean as was our room and all the public areas.  The pool area is very well set out and it was quite a novelty to go down to breakfast and not see towels laid out on the sunbeds.  One or two guests tried to leave their towels on the beds before 9.a.m. but that was soon stopped by a very polite little notice sent to each room requesting guests not to reserve sunbeds before 9.a.m.  It was very relaxing and quiet and all the staff bar none were most helpful and friendly.  Mention must be given to Mikey the barman in the evening, he made the most factastic cocktails and nothing was too much trouble for him or his wife Mandy who ran the bar next to the restaurant, a lovely couple.  We did have a couple of meals in the restaurant Avra which is just in front of the Muses and is where you have your breakfast.  They were very nice but we preferred to have a walk up to the village in the evening and eat a traditional Greek meal.  As mentioned in the other reviews, it is a little walk up quite a steep hill to the village (about 10 minutes) but as long as you take your time and stop to admire the beautiful scenery it is not bad at all (my husband is 70 and I am 68 and I am sure if we can do it without any bother, anyone can).  There are lots of restaurants and taverners to choose from, thankfully all Greek, not a British style pub or restaurant in sight, and no Del Boy blaring out from a television in a pub thank goodness. If you explore the side streets you will find the smaller type restaurant which suited us better as we are not big eaters and you could get a chicken souvalki or absolutely wonderful veal liver cooked over charcoal for about 6.50euros, that was in a little place called Manolos which was wonderful. Costas who runs the restaurant was a real character, always smiling and judging from the people who returned night after night, it spoke for itself. We had two wonderful boat trips from outside the Muses run by Captain Vangelis, just turn left and you can book your trips from the hotel next door but one. They were very reasonable only 30 euros each and if you book two trips he only charges 25. The boat was lovely and it was so nice to have plenty of room, not all squashed in like on some boat trips we have been on in Greece, and no photographers, just a lovely chilled out boat trip where you have the chance to swim in two lovely little bays and visit the most wonderful little places you would never have known existed. All in all my husband and I agreed it was one of the best holidays we have ever had and we would thoroughly recommend the 9 Muses to anyone. You are assured of a great holiday.
