We stayed at the Asteris at the start of July, room was clean enough and maid cleaned/tidied almost every day, Staff were really helpful and whoever was on reception even showed you to your room when you arrived which was a nice touch, food in the restaurant was good and reasonably priced and you even got samples of the cakes every now and then, the only downside is the hotels distance from Skala, it would be good 45 minute walk into town(not too sure how the previous reviewer got there in 10 mins!) but in 30 degree plus heat its not the best start to an evening out, thankfully the hotel provided a minibus service 6 nights a week which was a great help, once in town we followed advice on restaurants from trip advisor reviews and although some weren't to our liking we can definitely recommend The old Village & GourGouris Grill which were the most authentic and their food was the most enjoyable. we also strongly recommend the barbecue night at the hotel great value and great food, just remember to save a little food for the cats. All in all lovely hotel, nice resort beautiful island and gorgeous weather,

The Asteri was a wonderful place to stay in Skala. It is a 10 minute walk from the centre if town to the hotel and just over the crest of the hill the hotel sits on is a beautiful beach facing the sea (and not the harbour). The provided breakfast was good and we totally enjoyed walking to town and over to Kampo beach a few kms away.

Just got back from a very nice holiday. As previously mentioned the Asteris is a good 45 minute walk (or hour dawdle) from the resort.
On arrival we met Yannis who was very friendly and enthusiastic and sorted out our room quickly.
After our first night we found the studio not to our liking (personal reasons- they are very nice) so we upgraded to an apartment at a reasonable cost. The lady manager, I forget her name- sorry, sorted this quickly and without fuss.
The place was reasonably well occupied but there were never any issues with sunbeds, overcrowded pool, pool towels, getting a drink or having a meal (apart from one night in the restaurant due to being short staffed, however we weren't dining that night).
5 Euro per night air con is highly recommended.
The clientele were mainly English and German with a smattering of Greeks and other Europeans- all quiet sensible families and couples. Lovely atmosphere.
The main staff we dealt with were the two managers, a nice guy who drove the shuttle bus, Mina the barperson/ waitress (who was there early until after dinner every day) and Makis the barman. All just lovely people. Our maid was also very pleasant.
We ate out sometimes but the meals at the Asteris were not really improved on. The Greek night was the best food we ate over the week and also the best Greek night we have ever attended (Kefalonia was my fifth Greek island). Compliments to Sofia the cook! The continental breakfast was also lovely for 6 euros.
On several occasions we were presented with a complimentary sweet, either after our dinner or later on in the bar. The honey syrup drizzled doughnuts are so naughty but delicious. On the last night we were offered gorgeous home-made cheescake which was even nicer even than the lovely pattisserie down the road.
All in all very good. I have given four stars but my review would be 9/10. Some minor improvements such as the bathroom cleanliness/ maybe more of a shuttle service would bring it up to perfect!
We have never returned to the same hotel in 16 years of travelling together but I feel that The Asteris Hotel may be the first. Many people we met were return visitors so that surely says something.

Room Tip: Personal preference- all pretty good just depends if you want sun on your balcony/ terrace or not.

We stayed at the Asteris Hotel for 10 x nights commencing 6th July 2013. We had a studio room and it was lovely & spacious and cleaned daily.

The staff are so friendly & helpful & when we left they shook our hands and waves us off in the taxi, it actually made me feel a bit emotional.

We would recommend hiring a car for a few days as Skala centre is not walkable or to the beach we attempted this and made it to the first supermarket and they called us a taxi back! We also drove right up to the other end of the island to see Myrtos Beach which was stunning!!! We also went to Fiscardo which was beautiful but so expensive to eat!

The hotel do provide a mini bus service every day apart from Sunday at 6pm and 8pm and will collect you 10 past those hours if you wanted to come back then or a taxi is only 6 euros. Major sure you book the mini bus as the space is limited.

We would definitely go here again it was peaceful and the views from the pool were lovely too.

With such fantastic views from its location, the slight distance from Skala is a minor issue. The shuttle transit van or taxis are fine should you like some time in Skala.
But why would you not want a car when visiting Kefalonia, with so much beauty to explore !!
For the cost of Asteris, this hotel offers fantastic value, and decent quality, which is a wonderful surprise, therefore more spare cash for your other pursuits.
An all round gem per £/€
The Mythos in the frozen glass here, by the pool, is just heaven.
Also, Sugaro, en route to Skala, (next to Tesoro Blu) is fantastic for ice cream and cakes ;0)

We stayed for 11 nights at the Asteris and enjoyed every one of them.
All the staff from the owner to the maid gave first class service, friendly and helpful at all times.
We had room 120,a big quiet room with plenty of storage space, large bathroom(with a bath) equipped kitchen and a good size patio area with a stunning view. The big double bed was very clean and comfortable.
Food at the hotel was of a good standard, bbq night is definitely worth a try.
Pool area was always immaculate with plenty of free sunbeds and towels were available to use.
Skala centre is a 45 min walk away, taxi available for 6 euro to get back or alternately Costas runs a mini bus service to and from Skala at 18.00 and 20.00.
Plenty of good places to eat, would recommend Aquarius and El Greco, but did not have a bad meal anywhere. Prices are all about the same wherever you go.
Although the hotel is on the outskirts of Skala, this should not put you off, its well worth it.
We have been to 10 different Greek locations and this rates as one of the best.

Just returned from our 1st holiday in Greece and was very impressed with the Asteris hotel.
Costa (The Owner) and his staff were excellent & friendly, on arrival our room was upgraded which provided us with a beautiful Views of the Sea and Skala Town.
The Swimming Pool was of a good size and very clean.
Rooms were cleaned on Daily Basis.
Food in Hotel was very good especially Bbq Night (Monday Nights).
Myself and Wife walked from hotel to Skala town which took approx 45 mins, and had taxi back for 6 euro.
However every night Costa would drive small Minibus at 18.00 hrs & 20.00 hrs from hotel to Skala town centre.
Would Highly recommend this Hotel.
