“lovely family run company”
Reviewed July 23, 2011

From beginning to end we were treated wonderfully, they even offered to let my six year old daughter drive the boat (captains hat inc).
At swim stops they were very helpful and watchful just in case anyone over exerted themselves.
I truly believe it was worth every penny and at atleast 10 Euros cheaper than going on a Tour operator day trip (which means an hour each way on a bus from resort before even setting foot on a boat!).
They do not need to haggle re prices, as their reputation sells their trips.
Thanks for a lovely day

“Magical day out to the island of Ithaki”
Reviewed July 22, 2011

If you want a perfect day out on a lovely boat with a hospitable crew, a near perfect itinery and unforgetable sights which is suitable for all the family then this is for you. The trip begins in Skala (or Porto) and there are stops for swimming in the sea (popular with the fours to ninety fours), visits to historic Vathi and the beautiful fishing port of Kioni before a final swimming stop and a look at some of the natural rock formations on the way home. The crew were passionate about the cruise, knowledgable and welcoming and even let my four year old 'drive' the boat! Just for good measure the boat had a glass bottom to watch the fish swimming by for those not interested in swimming themselves. All this and excellent value too!

“A great day out!”
Reviewed June 10, 2011

We took the trip up to Friscado which, I think, in all took about 6 hours.

The team were delightful, friendly, helpful & informative & the boat was First Class - clean & well equipped. The crew looked after us all very well, even letting my 9 year old steer the boat!

This trip is a great way to see the island & Friscado, once we got there, was a delight & worth the trip on it's own. (* please see below.) We stopped off a couple of times on the way back for a refreshing swim & to see the lake at Melissani, which again was well worth doing. The boat company have even arranged concessionary prices for trip customers so even that was a win, win situation. At Melissani the boat docks in the grounds of a Taverna which is ideally located in one of the most beautiful & picturesque parts of the island in a truly magical location. The food they offered was good, although we did detect a distinct arrogance & contempt amongst the serving staff which was a shame. Our main course came up within seconds of the starter & when I sarcastically said to the guy - "Do you want to bring my dessert out as well?" he just shrugged his shoulders & walked off!

The boat is full of information on the island & the crew very eager to help out with any questions you may have. Check out the detailed reference book on the British sub "HMS Perseus" which sunk in the region with 59 hands.

The time flew by & we were sad at the end of the trip to see the Skala peninsular coming into view.

Now all the above said, we did go on the one hour "Wreck Cruise" which was ok, but I think should really be viewed as more of a boat trip out of Skala. To be honest the "wrecks" were just that "wrecks!" & the little that was visible was very hard to see through the glass bottom as the boat kept drifting off the wreck location & power inputs to correct this just lead to a load of bubbles obscuring what was there, but that is a minor niggle as the trip was reasonably cheap & the excellent Captain Vaneli's was on hand to talk us through what was there.

One "black mark" against the company though was that they decided over night to change the price of the "Wreck Trip" As I was in my swimmies I had turned up with the exact money we had seen advertised & had previously been advised - 12 Euros for me & 8 for my 9 year old son, only to then be told that the trip was 25 Euros! To be fair the good captain did let me off the 5 Euros, but a bit more consistency & stability of your pricing structure might be a better thing Mr. Vangeli!

* When you are up in Friscado, check out the museum up on the hill, particularly if you have got kids. Although almost an "exhibit" it's self, it is most interesting. PLEASE also leave a donation. The people who run it seem to do a lot of good work, particularly for conservation & animal concerns.

“Fantastic Day Out and good value for money”
Reviewed June 10, 2011

We took our 3yr old son abroad for the first time to Skala and chose Captain Vangeli's special cruises for a day out to the beautiful island of Ithika. The tour guides and captain couldn't have been more helpful and they made a special fuss of our little lad which was great.

The tour guide was from the UK (sorry, cant remember his name!) and he did a great job of informing the passengers of the trip ahead and also was really informative when explaining background history etc on the destinations and points of interest that we saw.

The boat itself was very well maintained with toilet facilities and refreshments available. The boat has a glass bottom and our son thought that was brilliant as he could see the marine life nice and clearly when the boat stopped throughout the day.

The trip stopped off for a couple of swim stops which was a lovely opportunity to cool off and the secluded bays in which the boat stopped were full of lovely scenary and naitive wildlife. At one point on our trip, the captain spotted a sea lion and hastily performed a U-Turn so we could all take a look, whilst later in the day he took us very close to some cliff faces where ancient caves were visible with stalagmites and stalactites.

The destinations were superb, Vathy is a beautiful greek port town that buzzes with real local's. The bakery there is a must for anybody. we will be taking a cool box with us the next time we go so we can make full use of the trip and stock up on those delicious baked goods!

Kioni was our 2nd stop which was simply stunning as a tiny harbour lined with about 4/5 tavernas, a couple of gift shops and little else. A truly beautiful setting.

Overall a great day out that we would highly reccomend to anybody. we will definatley be returning next year to do the trip again or one of the others that are available!!

one tip - book direct with the company either on the main street in Skala or on the sea front where the boat is situated. We saved about £30 compared with booking the same trip through our holiday rep.

thanks to the Vangelis crew for a great day that will always be remembered!!
