We went with Thomson holidays in early September. It is positioned just outside Skala nestled in a valley next to the beach. We were at the back of the complex on the first floor - an ideal situation. The rooms were very comfortable, bathroom/shower excellent. Good size balcony. The staff, overseen by two older and very knowledgeable people, were young - some of them students, but they were all very professional and nothing was too much trouble. We went to the entertainment for one night, the Greek night - great fun with the waiters joining in. Couldn't fault the hotel at all.
We went on the trip around Ithica with Thomson. Wouldn't bother. A lot of driving with a couple of picturesque places but if you like hearing about Odysseus all day and can cope with narrow roads with a sheer drop this is for you. I would go into Skala and go on a boat trip around Ithica.
Best beach near Skala was Mounda beach (Turtle beach) Places near to Skala, Poros, Agia Efemia and Samos
One word of warning we did have a 4.7 earthquake and you could feel it. Greece is well known for being in the "ring of fire"More
