Excellent holiday. Staff very attentive and helpful. Food exceeded expectations. Nice position, slightly out of Scala, meaning an easy and level walk in the evenings. Worth hiring a car to explore the lovely island. Also I suggest doing with boat trip out of Scala. Would certainly visit again.

Just spent a week here and my wife and I are very confused as to why it has been given a 5 star rating. Who issues these ratings. Having spent the past 10 years visiting 5 star hotels we were expecting this hotel to be up to the standard of the others. Sadly wrong. It wasn't all a let down though.

The swimming pool and surrounding area was a really pleasant place to spend the day, while listening to some really relaxing music. The loungers were comfortable, but why didn't someone have a tool to tighten the things up. Some looked to be in danger of collapse. End of seasonitis maybe.

Back to the positives again.

The bar staff were all very good. They were all very friendly, and willing to have a laugh and a joke with you. They also doubled up as evening waiters and luggage handlers, and despite the long hours they worked, it never showed.

We were on half board so we used the restaurant every night. Most of the meals were very good, but there were a couple that weren't up to the usual standard. We would not recommend half board though, because you knew from the first night exactly what the options were for the remainder of your stay. Lots of choice on the menu, but a couple of daily specials would have been very nice.

Now the negatives.

The reception area was totally featureless. Surely you don't need much imagination to have some sort of floral display to welcome guests, and make the area a bit more attractive. When we were taken to our room I think my face said what I thought of it. Spartan and basic was being kind to it. The balcony was minimalistic and not at all private. Great sea view though. Cleaning of the room was an issue. Daily the rock hard bed was made and the towels changed, but the floor was washed/swept only a couple of times during our stay. Also surfaces were not cleaned daily as marks made by cups/glasses were still their several days later.
Not very good for a 5 star hotel.

The breakfast room took us by surprise because it was more like an English B&B (with sun and views). Food selection was sparse. No, really it was poor. Despite the hotel only having to cater for 80 or so guests, their imagination was certainly lacking in the variety department. In my "B&B in England" I am confident that a human being would have served the tea and coffee. Not here. YOU got your coffee came from an urn.
Not 5 star now is it.

There was also a safety issue in this room, and also the bar by the swimming pool. There was a 2" inch high door runner you had to negotiate when carrying food/drinks to your table/sun lounger. Several people were seen to go base over apex over these obstacles. Not very cleverly thought out. Also on safety, the railing around the swim area, in places, was not very secure. We, and several others, leaned (to admire the views) on the railing in the top corner, and to say it was flexible would be an understatement. I think in England elf and safety would have had something to say about that. Perhaps Greece don't worry about hotel guests safety.

We would have loved to walk around the gardens, which have been a feature of our previous 5 star hotel visits, but there weren't any.
Not 5 star is it.

When we came to leave and settle our bill, we did not even get a "did you enjoy your stay with us". Perhaps the customer service skills of Anastasia were fading at the end of the season.

Having made the above observations, if the hotel had not advertised itself as 5 star, then some of our negative comments would have been less of an issue. But the bottom line is if you say you are 5 star, then make sure you deliver to the expected 5 star standard, and don't rely on guests to say - Well it is Greece.

As the song says “simply the best better than all the rest”, that really is our opinion for this stunning hotel.

We have visited this lovely hotel now on 3 occasions and can only add to the list of superlatives already outlined in previous reviews. From the moment you arrive to the warmest of welcomes by Anastasia (served home made biscuits and refreshing cherry juice in reception area) until you leave you feel very well looked after. Special mention also to Yannis who works tirelessly around the clock with such good humour. The pool area is beautiful and this year included the addition of massages, we too were lucky to receive complementary massages and in such lovely surroundings it is so easy to relax.

Credit also to the restaurant staff, on one evening of particularly heavy rain we decided to eat in the restaurant and although we had not made reservations, this was no problem, the waiting staff coped very well with the additional influx of diners. Quite a cosy atmosphere with the rain beating against the windows and an array of beautifully presented food coming out of the kitchen.

Our visit was early in May so the weather can be a little unsettled but we enjoyed many beautiful days of warm sunshine & also took advantage of being across the road from the beach. We were extremely lucky to be upgraded to a beautiful sea view room upon arrival and this definitely added to the enjoyment of our stay. We did one of the organised excursions, the Onassis Cruise with some lovely stops en route, Lefkas, Meganisi, Nidri and Spartochori village. (some pics attached).

Are we returning, yes, we were considering some of the other Greek islands but the beauty of Kefalonia and the pull of the Regina dell Aqua was too strong. This excellent 5 star hotel and the welcoming staff entice you to return, so we will be there again next year!!!
Looking forward to it already.

This was our first visit to Kefalonia. We were greeted by Anastasia with biscuits and apple juice on the terrace whilst registering and swiftly taken to our pre-booked (and supplement paid) sea view room. The room was large and there were fresh fruit and flowers plus a bottle of white wine waiting for us. We were also given the first of two complementary 40 minute massages each.
The view from the room was lovely - especially at sunrise - I would recommed getting up and watching it at least once. The downside to our room was the heat - the air con seeemed to work on the first day, but after that became more of a blower, we could not set it to cooler temperatures and the room never dropped below 30°c, which at night was almost unbearable and I slept a couple of nights with my head at the foot of the bed trying to get some air. It was no better with the balcony doors open. I did mention this to Anastasia, but it remained the same until our last night, when it suddenly started working again. Good job I could doze on the sunbeds!
We had a jacuzzi bath in our room with handheld shower over, so this meant kneeling in the bath to shower. I would have preferred a standing shower to the bath.
Our room was cleaned daily with clean towels, whether we asked for them or not. All the public areas were spotless and the gardens very well maintained by Yiannis (?)
It was great having pool towels provided, which we had read about in advance - saves a little of the precious baggage allowance.
Breakfast was everything you could hope for and more, kept constantly stocked up.
The snacks at the pool bar are a little pricey, but tend to be more upmarket than the usual bar snacks. The supermarket next door stocks ready made rolls and fresh bread, cold meats and cheeses, so we went there a couple of days and ate on the balcony or beach.
I generally prefer to be by the pool, but the beach is rather disappointing as the shingle goes into the steeply shelving sea. I do object to paying for sunbeds when I am staying at the hotel, so we only went once.
The evening meals are good, but we only ate there three times as we felt there was better value and choice to be found in some of Skala's many tavernas. I would not bother with Symposium again, but Scandinavia, Old Times, Gourgouris grill and the Old Village were amongst our favourites. All were very good value for money.
Beware of eating at the hotel on Thursdays and Sundays - they have muscial entertainment and you cannot hear yourself speak!
We did the Captain Vangelis trip up to Fiscardo, which was a lovely day out, complete with seeing Roman Abramovich in our harbourside restaurant!
We also hired a jeep for a couple of days and saw much of the island - Sami, Antisamos beach, Myrtos beach and the lovely Assos are all worth a visit. It is very easy to find your way around and explore.
We had excellent weather which really helped to make our holiday lovely, as did Anastasia and all her staff - Costas, Bledhi, Nadia (massage and beauty) and lots of others whose names we don't know!
Would definitely go here again.

We have just returned from our second trip to kefalonia and our first to the Regina and it definately won't be our last.

We really looked forward to our stay as we'd jealously walked passed it every day on our previous trip to Skala and it was no disappointment! We had a beautiful sea view from our spacious room and the jacuzzi bath was a total luxury at the end of a long hot day in the beach or by the pool.

We will definately be going back and have already started making plans for our return trip next year! Book it you won't regret it!

We booked this for our Pearl anniversary. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. Staff were very friendly and the food was good. The breakfast toaster problem mentioned in other reviews cropped up at one time but this was no great trial. On our wedding anniversary they put flowers, fruit and chilled wine in our room and gave us complimentary massages.
The beach is just across the road. It is somewhat pebbly. You do have to pay to use the loungers. One day some cows ran through them. It only served to endear the place further to us.
The boat trips that leave from the local beach (Capt. Vangelis) were interesting and enjoyable. The coach trips with Panem and Etam were very good - all the coaches with air conditioning. We booked these trips from the offices in town as it was cheaper than booking throught the holiday rep.
We did book the '4x4 Adventure' trip throught the rep. This was particularly interesting and one of our favourite parts of the holiday. It's not any kind of extreme off-road trip, but a very informative Cephalonian driver took us to parts of the island you don't get to see on the other trips - like the highest point, some 5,200 feet up.
There is a good selection of places to eat in Skala town, which is a pleasant 10-20 minute walk along the sea road, depending on your pace. If someone suggested the meal prices in the hotel were a little high for what they were, we wouldn't argue. We ate in town most of the time. We would particularly recommend the taverna in Old Skala, in the hills above the hotel. They are passionate about their food. You get very fresh, seasonal meals - and a fantastic view. You can walk up there in the day but it's a hot steep walk (and this was in May). Taxi fare in the evening was about 20Euros return.
Buses and water-taxis don't start until June (if they run at all) so this can restrict you somewhat if you aren't going to hire a car. We were told, however, that it gets much hotter and much more crowded by August.

Room Tip: The higher numbered rooms tend to have the better sea views.
