“Beautiful views, clean & friendly hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2012

We had a very enjoyable, relaxing holiday staying here. Comfortable and clean rooms that I believe all have a sea view so I wouldn't bother paying the extra for a sea view with the tour operator. Gardens very pretty, lovely pool. Food choice limited at hotel but adequate for staying around the pool during the day. Price of drinks are a little extra in comparison to down in Skala. Breakfast choice as with all Greek destinations very basic as we expected, could do with a little reorganisation. Staff extremely helpful, Sofia in particular who goes out of her way to assist you and make your stay welcoming and a happy one. It was actually cooler here on the hillside than on the beach, the views are amazing and think of the climb back up as a work out for your thighs!! Alternatively you can always get a taxi for 5 euros, factor that fee into the cost of your holiday if you don't fancy walking back up.

Room Tip: We stayed at the front overlooking everything which was fine for us, the rooms at the back are proba...

Arrived at the hotel to a really warm welcome by the owner Sophia, typical Greek lady glasses dark hair and really lovely! She ushered a man called "Jack" very Greek huh ! To carry our bags to the room. The room was amazing in fact one of the pictures on the Thomson website is the room we had! View from the rows amazing overlooking the sea and the surrounding islands. We were nervous about the "dreaded hill" people had mentioned prior but we ventured out none the less! As stated before 5 mins down 20 mins up! It's not an issue though think of it as help with getting your beach body! I am sitting by the pool now of the hotel writing this review but there is one niggle on that! The Internet was 8 euros for the week but it only works around the pool our room is too far away and the Internet is very intermittent! We have also hired a car through Thomson for 4 days at a price of €140 I think that's reasonable as we have no insurance excess and unlimited mileage!! Kefalonia is a beautiful stunning island and hiring a car is the way to see it so relaxed tranquil and unspoilt by all the usual Germans or Russians stealing the sun loungers in the morning! Welcomed change there hey !!!!!! I would come back to this hotel again and again my better half and myself needed a relaxing holiday and this is certainly proving to be one it's amazing on so many levels

Summarising the hotel I would say ; extremely clean, friendly, amazing views, tranquil, value for money, great location ( if your lazy or elderly perhaps not) I would say improvise and get a car or else you could miss out on a a truly amazing holiday by a few peoples remarks on a piece of Tarmac with a gradient "the hill"

Sophia the owner is a lovely lady and will move heaven and earth to help you he is lovely!

We got this as a last minute deal. Well worth it!
Good points
-clean, new, nice rooms (sea view upgrade not necessarily worth it as most rooms have it anyway and all balconies are nice-you may want to ask for a first floor room as they have nicer high beamed ceilings), really helpful and friendly staff, lovely pool and dining area with fab views of the sea. Nice sized fridge in room and air con option for a charge.
Bad points
-it is a bit of an uphill walk from town so no good if you struggle on your feet, are lazy or if it is really hot. We enjoyed the small walk but a taxi from town is only 5 euros.
-breakfast lacked imagination-for no extra cost they could have changed the basic buffet a bit more often-same every day and not much effort.
-pool bar is too pricey
We loved it here and would definitely go back or recommend it to others!!!

Very, very clean hotel, staff always cleaning the place or watering the plants lovely gardens and views from the balcony...
TV Fuzzy and few channels but do you go to Greece to watch TV? personally I don't, but should be sorted!
Breakfast is a bit limited but OK, Nice pool sun lounges etc.
The hill is as others have said is fine for most people under 50 to 60 one guy when we where there was doing it OK at 81! but a taxi after too much to drink in town is 5 euro's, however being up the hill a bit gives nice views of the sea and peaceful quiet nights sleep on the best bed I have ever slept on in a holiday resort hotel.
The shower/taps/toilet etc worked fine too, hot water always working, a bit of a novelty for Greece.
The staff are friendly and helpful, I dropped my mobile phone on the bus asked the owner for help she made a few phone calls.... phone back to me in under half an hour! credit to her and Thompson's.
I would say to get the best out of Kefalonia you do really need a car there are at least 3 car rental places in Scala, we used Budget (good service nice people) 5 days for the price of 3...good deals around at the moment! as there are eating out.
Loads of nice beaches (the best I've seen in Greece) nice villages etc. to visit drive OK on the reasonable condition (for a Greek island!) roads.
Booked latish with Thompson's price pretty good in June, you naturally are going pay top dollar anywhere in August!

This really is a lovely place to stay. After the gap in reviews and a couple of negative reviews, we went with an open mind. We were so pleased with the hotel and would definitely recommend.
We upgraded to a room with a sea view and were not disappointed. Large room with balcony on the top floor with fab views. The rooms on the top floor also have exposed beams which adds height and the feel of space.
We didn't purchase the air con but managed without.
The pool was fabulous and a real sun trap but also benefiting from a breeze as it is situated away from the busy promenade on the hillside. The food is also reasonable should you have a pool day and need some lunch.
The hotel is on a hill but we saw this as a benefit as its quiet and away from the crowds, it really is small and friendly.
The walk up isn't too bad, avoiding peak sun times helps and it's quite nice to walk down on the way into skala for an evening meal. A taxi is about 5 euro.
The breakfast choice is Simple but fits the climate. Fresh bread, juice, ham and cheese, and yoghurt and honey. A full English is available for 6 euro.
Sophia is very helpful and speaks good English.
Public transport seemed non existent and we ended up hiring a scooter as a cheaper alternative to a car.
Eating out is reasonable but not cheap, approx 7-10 euros for typical meals. Cocktails are 4-5 euros and a beer 2.50 euros.
Towels and bedding are not changed daily which we didn't have a problem with.

We would definitely reccomend this hotel, its definitely a good 3 star at least. The hotel is only 4 years old and it's the first year that the hotel has been with thomsons.

It's lovely.

Just returned from this spotlessly clean hotel. We to had a problem with the TV as mentioned by the previous reviewer but reported it, and it was acted upon promptly - it turned out a wire had been cut during recent works and this has disturbed the signal to the whole of the block
Advantages:
Clean
Massive bed
Fantasic View
Pleasant gardens
Infinity pool
Quiet and tucked away, and yet only 5 mins down the hill(10 mins up) to the main front of Scala(where there are tavernas) and only a further 5mins to the Main St at Scala
No over powering music in the pool bar
Acceptable breakfast- as good as any other I have ever had in Greece.Staff serving this were helpful and pleasant
Disadvantages:
The hill - I cannot deny there is a hill and this accomodation is not suitable for elderly, people with walking difficulties, or for people with young children needing to push buggies up , but it is nothing like as bad as we were expecting given other reviews , we are in our mid 50s and managed this with no problem we enjoyed the walk in and out of town , there are plenty of taxis if you wish to use one

Room Tip: Some of the lower rooms near to the pool are not very private being on the main walking area, the be...

Me and my partner stayed here for a week from may 20th 2012.
We were really looking forward to our stay as it looks nice in the photos.
I have to say we found it very different to our expectations. Where to start? The hotel is up a huge hill that anyone old or unfit would struggle very much, which wouldn't be so bad if the hotel had any entertainment. The pool was nice but no music or entertainment of any kind so you have to go down the hill. The satalite TV in the room as advertized consisted of a few Greek channels and BBC news all of which were awful pictures fuzzy and virtually impossible to watch.
Our room (room 8) we had two plug sockets come out of wall with the plug, excuse the pun but Shocking.
Our pillows were filthy and towells from sun creams etc and were only changed when we left in a pile with a note. The walls were not decorated with patches everywhere yet on check out day they had loads of cleaners to butter up the new arrivals.
You might ask why did we not ask to change rooms, well we did and was gretted with a filthy look from Sophia the owner and was obvious she was offended.
I have to say though the bed was superb

I know it seems some people have an agenda with reviews but I really would advise against booking this place it really was bad.

If paspalace bar has rooms in the hotel I'd try there, we went in their most evenings, superb bar, entertainment the girl behind the bar was so helpful and friendly even gave us a free drink every night and the owner gave us a lift home to livadaki great guy

Room Tip: Don't book here
