“" The food is just heavenly"”
Reviewed April 23, 2013

We have stayed at the hotel three times now and each time has been as good, if not better than the last! Selfishly, I dont really want to share this hidden gem, but it is too good not to ....

The bedrooms are immaculate with crisp white sheets and sparkling bathrooms and a view to die for, but it is the food that sets this place apart! Our sixteen year old son was heard to say on the first evening, "the food is heavenly" ( not a word one would normally associate with a teenager, especially a boy at that!) but he is absolutely correct, it is out of this world.

Phil and Louise ( the owners) and their hand picked staff, could not be, or do, anthing more to make you feel at home. We chose to go back there this year for my 50th birthday and it was WONDERFUL!!! The skiing within the Grand Massiff is vast and a welcome change from the well trodden runs at Les Gets and Morzine. This is a special hotel located in an area that is a well kept secret ....for now. We would definitely recommend this hotel and resort.

Room Tip: Ask for a view over Samoens you wont be disappointed - what a way to start the day!

We travelled in a group of nine (two families) for an Easter ski trip- found this hotel online & really glad we did! Everything was perfect - food, accommodation and location. Spacious boot room complete with snooker table, power showers & huge hot tub on terrace overlooking the valley - most welcome after day on the slopes. Bedrooms were spacious with lots of storage and kept really clean - nice to have a bath (rather than just shower) on a ski holiday. The meals were delicious and our sole veggie very well catered for. The yummy cakes and hot chocolate for afternoon tea were great too. Hosts Phil and Louise, and the lovely Kiwi staff Miriam & Danni made us so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The fire display on the Savoyard night was a treat! Only negative was outwith their control - tearing my cruciate ligament on our 2nd last day! Even then the staff were on hand with tea & sympathy, ice packs, even loan of a walking stick! Will definitely recommend to others and would love to go back..

We really enjoyed our trip to this hotel. The service and food were excellent and so was the skiing. I just wish someone would make me such good food at home! Thanks to all the staff for making it a great holiday.

We (family of 4) just got home from a week at La Terrasse de Verchaix and had an absolutely fantastic time! It was our first time visiting the hotel, following a recommendation from some friends, and we certainly hope to go back again. The chalet was beautiful, with a large open plan dining room/cosy seating area/bar on the main floor (with phenomenal views of the valley), very handy ski room in the basement and bedrooms upstairs. The large terrace outside also has possibly the best hot tub I've ever been in (complete with eucalyptus oils!!!).

The food, cooked by Louise and George, was absolutely delicious; breakfast buffet complete with the yummiest cooked breakfasts, afternoon tea and gorgeous cakes ready for our arrival back off the slopes, and exceptional three course meals in the evening. The bedrooms were good, with amazing views over the valley, and thoroughly cleaned by Miriam and Dani every day.

The lovely staff really did make our holiday- Louise and Phil were the perfect hosts, and Dani and Miriam were absolutely fantastic! They all made us so welcome from the moment we arrived, and were so attentive and delightful all week-nothing was ever too much trouble! Their knowledge of the best places to ski was also invaluable. All in all we had an absolutely incredible time at La Terrasse, and cannot recommend it highly enough to anyone looking to have a lovely, relaxing break in a fantastic area of the Alps. An absolute gem.

We decided to squeeze in a 4 day trip to the Grand Massif at the end of March and happened upon the Terrace de Verchaix. What Luck! The booking process was quick and efficient and the website was informative. When we arrived we were made to feel instantly comfortable and welcome and the service from Phil, Louise, Danni and Hannah was 5 star throughout our stay. Their local knowledge of the ski area was invaluable. Rooms were well equipped, comfortable, very clean and although on the small side, more than sufficient when out exploring the area for most of the day. The quality of the food and service was exceptional; Louise's 'potence' speciality was sublime. The location is superb and Louise and Phil have worked very hard to create a top class chalet experience. They have definitely succeeded.

We've been travelling to La Terrasse de Verchaix now, each year, for about five years as well as other visits with family at other times. Phil and Louise, the owners, have always been consistently excellent in every aspect of guest satisfaction.

The hotel doesn't claim to be a 5 star hotel but Phil & Louise work very hard to make your stay a memorable one. The staff are always well trained and provide excellent service. The rooms are small but perfectly adequate and well presented. There is always lots of hot water and a fantastic, very clean jacuzzi located on the terrace with stunning views across the valley to the ski fields and slopes of Morillon. The food that Louise and her team produce certainly is 5 star and the hotel punches way above its weight in this respect. Apart from the Tartiflette lacking in meat this year (we di mention it), the food has, year on year been extremely good - the breakfasts, the afternoon tea/coffee and cakes and the four course evening meal with excellent wine. We've also never got bored of the food as Louise is always introducing new dishes and they are always very tasty and beautifully presented.

Phil is the perfect barman/host and runs a tight ship at the hotel. Particularly welcome are the drinks that Phil is willing to bring down to you while you are in the hot tub after a long, hard days skiing! Phil will also give you a lift down to the ski lift in the morning if you want it. On occasions we've met Phil while skiing and he is very knowledgeable about where to ski in the Grand Massif.

The hotel is a 5 minute drive to the Morillon lift and 10 minutes to the Samoen Grand Massif Express but we've never found this a problem as there is always plenty of parking to park the hire car (we've found that hiring a car for a long weekend is the same price as a transfer).

All in all they really deserve the 5 star rating and it is no surprise to me that they have so many excellent reviews.

It was the first time we spend our ski holiday with Phil and Louise and it was awesome. They are the perfect hosts to a warm and cosy chalet-hotel.
The breakfast was superb, not an obvious thing in France, the diners were marvelous. We enjoyed afternoon cake, tea and coffee and the jacuzzi on the outdoor balcony was the best remedy for our tired legs. This is as good as it gets so we already took an option for next year.

Room Tip: ask a room with view on the valley
