“Quiet relaxing retreat”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

We stayed here Early January 2013 and had a relaxing short break. We stayed in the main building not chalets and have no complaints about cleanlinesss or noise in the rooms.
Plenty to do if you have transport as is isolated but the resort has amenities to keep you entertained for awhile. Excellent food and service in the restaurant. All staff friendly and attentive. Overall very enjoyable.

This was our first stay at Pinnacle Valley and to be honest after reading some reviews I was a bit worried. I needn't have. We stayed in a two bedroom Chalet (6). The chalet had one adjoining wall and we did not have any trouble with noise. There is a dull humming noise and this I believe comes form the compressors under the floor which is for the reverse cycle ducted air conditioning. We did not find this annoying at all. The room was also fitted with ceiling fans and a gas log fire. The chalet was clean and well appointed. It was two storey and the room upstairs was a bit warm but didn't seem to affect the kids sleep. The main bed was king size and very comfy. Hubby had a go at the sofa bed too, for no other reason than he didn't want to keep me awake with his snoring, and he said that was comfy too. There is an outdoor setting on the balcony which provided a nice view and spot to watch the kangaroo's.

The kids (and grown ups) enjoyed the lovely pool area with an above average length pool, for those that enjoy laps, as well as a separate pool for the little ones. Shade areas and lounges provided. BBQ area looked neat and tidy and the mini golf course was entertaining. We didn't have a go at the paddle boats, but saw many families enjoying themselves. There was also a tennis court and beach volley ball court.

The restaurant was open from Thursday to Monday nights and we did not eat there but the area looked lovely with terrific views. We had a look at the gym, sauna and spa area but didn't give them a go, all looked good though.

The reception, restaurant and gym area is maybe one hundred metres from the rooms and uphill. You are able to drive up if you need to.

The grounds are well kept and staff were terrific.

The resort is a 30km drive from Mansfield so definitely stock up there on groceries for your stay.

Had a look at the main accommodation building and I can see how it may get noisy. It does look a bit dated but still very neat and tidy. It has atrium type feel so could be a bit echoey I imagine.

We had a wonderful time here and was a good base to do day trips up to Mt Buller, Mansfield, Bonnie Doon or Jamieson.

Room Tip: If you can, stay in a chalet.

This was our 3rd visit to this property and as usual it was great. I took my 13yr old daughter and her girlfriend. As members of the Accor Vacation Club we stayed in a 2 bedroom chalet no.15 and it was great. It was located near the pool and mini golf area. On our first night, the kangaroos were out and about, they come so close to the chalet, the girls had a geat time checking out the wildlife. We loved the pool and the girls made good use of the spa. The staff are just fantastic, they make you feel so welcome, and the cleaning staff are so friendly. I even ran into one of them in Mansfield and they took the time to have a chat with me. There are activities to do at the resort, but if you just want to relax it is great. Alsot near by we went to Jamieson Brewery and Fudge Factory, Mansfield Zoo and Mt Buller. Hopefully we will be back again next year. Thanks for a great 6 night holiday.

Room Tip: 2 bedroom chalet great for familys

My partner and stayed here for a week this January. There was no shortage of things to do but you will need a car. The resort is located about 30 kms east of Mansfield at the base of Mt Buller, which is the must see local feature and a great escape from the summers heat. Rooms have cooking facilities and you would be well advised to bring supplies. There is no shop locally and the on site restaurant is closed more than it is open. We did not use it and so can't comment on the food. They do have a big bar b que shelter in the grounds and one of the three bar b ques there works. The resort is large and comfortable but has some maintenance issues. There appears to be no on site management and it shows. The guttering above our room was overgrown with plants and the dryer in the room did not work. Notwithstanding the minor faults we had a great time and the region is glorious.

Had a pair of Accor Vacation Club, 2-bed-room chalets for a family gathering that included young children. Chalets were spacious, well appointed and very clean. Beds were large and comfortable and rooms had been recently refurbished. Located in a bushland setting with plenty of activities for children and adults and plenty of room to roam.. Onsite activities include boating, fishing, tennis, mini golf, bike riding and a games room while there are many bush walks nearby. Mt Buller is nearby for walks and mountain bike riding. Pavillion BBQ was ideal for large family meals. Staff were friendly, helpful and very efficient. Mansfield nearby is a very interesting town with a good range of shops while the local Merrigig pub provided an ideal location for a family dinner. Overall a great place to stay for a family holiday.

This was the second time we have stayed at this property with the last being about 6 years ago. Not much has changed except the venue has aged to the point where a refurbishment is close to being required.

Firstly the location. Being between Mount Buller and Merrijig suited us as we were mountain biking on the mountain. It is a quiet location surrounded by paddocks and nice outlook. Kangaroo's graze on the property and are easily seen in the evening and early morning. The grounds have native parrots and Rosella's in the trees.

The rooms. We were in a Studio apartment. The room was big enough and had a king bed. The bed was passable but not great. The bathroom had a spa bath with a shower over it (I always hate these as I always feel I am going to slip over climbing out). The room had a modern split system air-conditioner so temperature control was easily managed. The room had a surprisingly small window which was a pity as the view was pleasant. Noise leakage from other adjoining rooms was poor. I could hear a person from the adjoining room snoring all night! I did like the kitchenette with cook top, microwave and sink. I also liked the large TV and DVD player,

Facilities. The Resort has mini golf, pool, games room, spa and sauna - an impressive array but all starting to show their age. I didn't dine at the restaurant this time but a perusal of the menu showed the usual menu selections you expect from a motel restaurant - pricing was verging on expensive. The building facades looked aged and in need of a paint in the not so distant future.

All in all acceptable but not great. Shop around for a reduced rate - at full cost its probably a bit expensive for what you get.

Sorry for the late report but wanted to write that we enjoy staying at Pinnacle Valley each summer, we stay for two weeks each time.
The attraction for us is that we can miss the worst of the summer heat in the city. The location is simply great, the views, the nature, wild birds aplenty, kangaroos and wombats all abound. There's opportunity for lovely leisurely walks in the resort grounds, activities like crazy golf but generally we like the quietness.

We enjoy using the sauna and spa and the restaurant when it's open. Depending on the season, the restaurant is open for set days each week.

Check-in is made at reception which is in a separate building up the hill from the accommodation and which also contains the restaurant and bar.

We have always found the staff welcoming and helpful. If staying in one of the self-catering rooms, it's important to stock up with food at one of the two supermarkets in Mansfield before making the drive to Merrijig, the food items available are limited and the prices in the village are prohibitive.

In short we love going there!
