“Club Robinson at Quinta da Ria”
Review of Quinta da Ria

Quinta da Ria
Reviewed October 8, 2013

A very well equipped self contained resort to high standards. The food was fantastic - best choices we ever had my long life!! There was breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner and late supper with varied choices. There was fruit smoothies (from pineapples, pears, watermelon), over 15 sauces, 6 types of fresh bread, cakes, rice, pasta, roast etc. Our only complaints were very flat pillows and being 30 min to check in (room was not ready). As over 80% of guests were German, there were German notices everywhere but there was just adequate/minimal English translation and the staff could speak very good English and were helpful. The Cima golf was also excellent but we played on a showery day, hence could not appreciate its true beauty.

The title says it all. Go to nearby Monte Rei and experience the best. Nice to have sun on your back though, but no other fond memories.

Quinta Da Ria has two course da Ria and da Cima, you can see my review of da Ria below, played it again in early May and much better management, no delays and a good pace of play, however the bunkers are shocking reminiscent of a cheap English muni, no sand in them. Played da Cima and this is a fantastic golf course, bunkers plentiful and a pleasure to play out of. Enough water to make it interesting without requiring 2 dozen balls !! Well manicured fairways and great true greens. The rough is there and will catch the very wayward shots on some holes but again not enough to need plenty of extra balls. This course is good for all handicappers and we have added it to our must play gain list.

The golf course is very well maintained with helpful and friendly staff. It offers great views on the sea from some holes. It is perfect for senior golfers like me with a higher handicap. The neighboring course Quinta da Cima which belongs to the same club is more difficult but also quite attractive. I have been playing these golf courses for many years and will certainly come back

This is a fantastic course in great condition, very pretty and the right sort of challenge for the low to mid handicap golfer, plenty of water and bunkers with some target golf par 3. However Its let down by the lack of on course marshals, so pace of play was dreadfully slow, so slow that it took over 3 hours to play 9 (yes 9 holes). We had 13:10 and 13:20 tees on subsequent days, the first day we had to leave at 14 as sun was too low to play after 4 and half hours and on the 2nd day we got so fed up we left after 9 over 3 hours later.

We complained to the course management and give them their due, they were very apologetic and we have vouchers for free rounds any time in the next two years which is great but a refund would have been better and no chance of that.

The problem is Robinson Club (the on-course hotel and spa) can offer some fantastic deals with unlimited gold (including for beginners!!!!) google them to check deals and avoid this course in they have a good deal on, this is not a beginners course so pace of play is terribly slow.
