There should be more than 5 stars for a review for this place. This was the perfect place for our first child free vacation. From the moment we pulled in we started to feel the stress fall away. We dropped our belongs inside and immediately went to the beach to stare out at the waves crashing onto the reef. Bodden Town itself was quiet and just the speed we needed for our vacation. The cottage was perfectly set up with many little touches that did not go unnoticed. Thom and Susan have lovingly provided a haven for travelers with this cottage. They even provide a cell phone with minutes on it for local calls if you need to use it. It was nice when we wanted to order pizza to use a local phone instead of having to use our own cell phone. Thom was always out on the beach making sure it was raked and in pristine condition for whenever we wanted to use it. Thom and Susan made sure we had everything we needed and that we were comfortable.
The only drawbacks for myself were a low wifi connection - we were unable to stream any of our shows that we were missing on our laptop. We did not realize the Turtle Nest Inn had a ton of movies we could borrow. The other drawback for me was the beach was a rocky beach with a lot of sea grass. I am not a swimmer but I do like to wade into the water and let the waves crash around me. That wasn't really possible to do in the water here unless I waded out past the sea grass. But just a short drive down the road was Spotts Beach which was a great place to wade into the water just to splash around. It was also a great place to swim with turtles!
Staying here meant driving a bit to get to the touristy spots and be aware... you will take wrong turns and may get lost a couple of times. We had a hard time with the lack of street signs on many roads, but it made us laugh a lot when we would realize we were just a street over from where we should have been. Make sure to go to Rum Point early in your trip because you might find that it's a happenin' place and you want to go back. We went on our last day and hated that we hadn't visited it sooner!

“Another fantastic year”

Just returned from our 2nd trip to Castaway Cottage. Just as wonderful as last year. The cottage is stocked with everything (and more) you could ever need .. from kitchen to bathroom items. The inside is immaculate and so comfortable to relax at night after a day in the sun. The grounds are beautiful too with a hammock and chairs in several different places on the property to just sit and relax. The snorkeling is fantastic. Just off the beach and to the right had some amazing underwater sea life. My newest passion this year was collecting the sea glass that collects on your beach each day. I brought home a bag of it.

We stop at the local grocery store and buy breakfast and lunch supplies. Prices are not as bad as you are led to believe if you look for sale items. At night for dinner we went where the locals went. No meal for us was over $25 for 2. The Grapetree has a fish fry on Friday, Saturday and Sunday so went there twice. You sit at a covered picnic table on the beach and eat out of your container. We also went to Kurts Corner twice and Rankins Jerk Shack twice. Loved them all.

Plans already being made for next year's visit.

“Casual Luxury Get-Away”
Reviewed March 16, 2016 for a stay in February 2016

As world travelers who have enjoyed living abroad, our last few summers have been spent enjoying three river cruises throughout Europe aboard the Viking River Cruise Line. From Budapest, Paris, Moscow and Amsterdam, Viking saturated us in casual luxury.
So why have we spent the last four winters at Castaway Cottage? Because we are spoiled and seek the best value in unique five-star accommodations. We’re also smart to know that if we are spending an entire winter month in the Caribbean, it’s got to be where casual luxury is a given as with this well kept, picturesque and un-crowded property.
From the moment we arrive in this sublime tropical setting, we start to shed layers of stress like layers from an onion peel. Throughout our stay, the owners, Thom and Susan insure their excellent property keeping techniques are 24-karat quality in all areas and our stay is the optimum in relaxation.
Having snorkeled offshore in the Caymans for over 19 years, we find the snorkeling at the Bodden Town reef by Castaway Cottage to be the best. The frigate birds, and occasional pelicans, are a delight to watch in the late afternoon and there are always pleasant surprises such as the local fishermen casting their nets. The experience of living in Bodden Town on the south side of Grand Cayman has enabled us to become familiar with and enjoy the rhythms of life on Grand Cayman Island as we have never done in our earlier years of vacationing on Seven Mile Beach with its crowded beaches.
In rural Bodden Town, the magic of Castaway Cottage lies in its un-crowded beach and private tropical venues. One need not be on high alert to capture a pristine moment, snorkel one of the best reefs, read all the books you like, nap under the palms and enjoy the first class relaxation. For the past four Februarys, owners Thom and Susan have created a comfortable and welcoming home for us as honored guests. Consequently, we are already booked for February in 2017, 2018 and two more years in advance to insure we don’t miss an opportunity for another magical stay at Castaway Cottage.
