Don't drive past this GR8 little place if you are driving out towards East End. It is very unassuming from the outside but once inside you will have a blast. The bar area is really nice and the light foods that we had were delicious. Bar server was pleasant, we enjoyed our short time there and will no doubt return when we are out that way again.

South Coast Grill presents a very unassuming appearance as you drive along the shore, particularly in contrast to the elegant and dramatic Lighthouse Restaurant that you can see right down the street. However, don't be fooled! The food is very good and, once you get inside, the location is fantastic. Since Chef Remy took it over, the interior has been transformed into a large and comfortable bar and airy adjoining dining room with an interesting and diverse menu. But the real joy is to sit outside either on the upper level (same level as the bar) where there are four sheltered tables looking directly out over the surf, or down on the beach itself.

On the beach there are five (or six?) round picnic-style tables with tiki umbrellas nestled into the sand, just yards away from the breaking surf. These are invisible from the road, so unless you know they are there, you would never guess. In the center between you and the surf is a large gas fire pit (it was too windy the night we were there to light it) and a number of tiki torches. The sun sets to your right -- it is a beautiful place to watch the sun sink into the water.

The staff is very friendly and happy to serve you right on the beach. One note: there doesn't seem to be any form of electricity or candle light down on the beach, so when it gets dark, seeing your food gets a bit tricky (there are some lights that shine down from the main level -- but I'd bring a light or use a flashlight app on your phone just in case).

Now to the food. We have only been twice and shame on me, I've had the same dish both times: the jerk sausage salad with creamy mustard sauce. Boy is that good! It is a large appetizer, which made for a good light lunch. Then for dinner I doubled the order and it was perfect. My companions had fish of the day and reported it was perfectly cooked, very fresh and delicious also. The drinks are generous and the beer ice cold. So far so good but we have more exploration of this menu ahead of us to report!

An open rustic bar with ocean front tables added fun to our Sunday in the Caribbean . We had the fried splats, yummy ! Conch fritters and wings along with a few cold libations. Has a cool kinda local feel slightly off the beaten path.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Thursday night 5-course lobster dinner at the South Coast Bar & Grill. It's a local spot, not fancy, with indoor seating and outdoor tables facing the ocean. We were served a delicious lobster bisque, cold lobster medallions that were beautifully presented, a refreshing mango sorbet atop minted watermelon cubes, a roasted lobster tail with mashed potatoes and ackee, and carrot cake for dessert. This meal exceeded our expectations. With one mojito and one soft drink, including tip which was automatically added to the bill, we paid $117 US. It was a very good value!

We stopped at South Coast for lunch one time while staying in Bodden Town. My wife had the special (soup, salad & sandwich - which was BBQ Chicken) and I had the chicken quesadilla. We sat on the patio and had a very nice view of the ocean. The waiter was very nice and the service was good. While my lunch was pretty good, my wife's experience was not as good. The tomato soup was pretty much tasteless and seemed to have come out of a can. The salad was good but the BBQ did not have much flavor. Overall, we thought the food needed work. I got the feeling they are still trying to get established so we will give them one more chance next year. For now, though, they are no better than average.
