“Excellent hotel and service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 2, 2013

We spent 1 night in this hotel and came back for another 2 nights because we couldn't find a better place to stay in Siquijor. They have a stunning view of the sea, the bungalows are super-clean (it is owned by a Japanese couple, so they have Japanese standards), the room is made up every day (which is uncommun in the Philippines), the staff very helpful and friendly, they really make you feel like you're a special guest. Welcome drink is served at your arrival. Excellent address for a peaceful and quiet stay.

I don't know where to start so I do it short

Positive things:
Nice terrace and very but very kind Staff.

Negative things:
Beach not suitable for swimming.
No aircon only electric fan in the cottages and they were dirty
The food is average to bad an the kitchen is hyper dirty.

If you want to have the same feeling of life like the Filipinos in a nippa hut you can book this resort.

We booked 7 nights but we stayed only 1 horrible night there.
It was the worst day of our stay in the philippines.

I stayed at the Villa Marmarine for a week and had such a great time!!

The Beach: The sand quickly gives way to rocks with plenty of urchins hiding in the cracks, so step carefully. The water is crystal clear with great underwater life. Snorkeling or even swimming with goggles gives you a great view of the corals, fishes, and other critters. I went for two swims every day I was there, and I loved it! The beach is small with some hammocks and lounge chairs. The sand is covered with shells, and the beach at high tide is pretty narrow, although it is still nice to sit out on it. They have a cool looking dive boat and a dive center, I don't dive so I can't say how that is but everyone I talked to who dived with them seemed to have good times.

The Location: The resort has a nice secluded feel even though it is nestled right in amongst various homes large and small. There are local folks fishing right off shore, and getting urchins at low tide. The fishermen sometimes even came up to the restaurant and sold some fish to the chef! Siquijor is a very laid back island, very rural. There is very little nightlife in the towns- this is not a party isle. The people are all tremendously nice and I had a great time exploring the scenic island on a motorbike rented from the resort.

The Lodging: I stayed first in the small nipa hut style cottage right next to the beach- it is just steps from the beach, and you feel like you are almost outside as you lay in the bed. It is a little cramped. There was a maintenance problem in the little cottage, and they moved me to another room while they fixed it. They moved me to one of the big villas, with a second story loft. It was very airy and the large balconies were stunning. It was, however, farther from the beach! The grounds are very nice, with great ornamental gardens. The different cottages and villas are fairly close to each other, but probably not so close that you will be hearing everything from the next house. Both options I stayed in had no a/c, just lots of fans and screened windows that kept the room temps very comfortable. I don't know if any of the others had a/c.

The Restaurant: I absolutely loved the dishes I ordered from the restaurant. The fish is as fresh as can be, right out of the water. They run a pretty extensive vegetable garden on site, so vegetables are super fresh too. The chef is great, everything is delicious and simple enough that the flavors come through. Picture perfect view of the water, sunset, and/or the stars while you eat.

The Staff: Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Some of the waitstaff are work-study students who are part of a nonprofit the resort owner runs. A couple of them were not perhaps the savviest waitresses the world has ever seen, but very kind and sweet people. The management staff, the dive masters, the owners, even the cleaners and gardeners were all responsive to guest needs and very competent. If you need something, just ask and they will help!

Bottom Line: If you want a really slick and packaged beach experience, this is not for you. But, if you want to go to a quirky and wonderful little gem, look into Marmarine. The prices are very reasonable and you will feel your money was well spent. I will remember it fondly for a long time!

PS: Remember to bring CASH! No credit cards accepted here! There are a couple ATMs in the nearest town, though.

Room Tip: Email with the owner to get a good description of the cottage/villa/room you are booking. All the op...

I went to Villa Marmarine through the shore. At high tide, you can't spread a towel on the beach or lounging chair because the water will reach the area. However, its office and resto overlooks the sea, on an elevated portion. It specializes in diving although diving is done at Paliton Beach, several kilometers away. If you want to go diving, you get to Paliton Beach by boat or to some other areas as Apo Island or Balicasag in Bohol.

The Island of Siquijor is an excellent place to visit! When you're looking for a beautiful and quiet beach you should definitely come to VIlla Marmarine. Don't come here if you're looking for entertainment and nightlife, but if you're looking for a lonely quiet beach this is the place to go.

we were here for 2 nights. our expectations were really high because of very good reviews, but we were quite dissatisfied.
cottages are great and there is just amazing terrase with beatiful view on the sea. first warning was food in restaurant - quality was average, if not below average. chicken curry was just disguisting. staff looks friendly at first sight, but they are slow, incompetent, and there is always nobody around when you need something or want to order. most of the times the staff is just walking by you like you dont even exist, and they are chitchatting between each other, quite noisy. i understand that they are mostly working students, but still, you expect some standart for your money. beach is average, but sea is dirty and to swim is just impossible

We stayed in Villa Marmarine for 3 nights during the last week of March. The villa MATO is set in a beautiful garden with a double bed downstairs and twins upstairs. There is no AC but ceiling and standing fans are fine. The toilet is in a box in the lower room which is rather strange. Balconies up and down with partial view of beautiful sea. The terrace and room have wi fi, if needed in this lovely spot. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, deserted beach but the beach area in front could be improved. There are two lovely hammocks but three broken sun beds The staff, some of whom are working students, are extremely pleasant and helpful. Scooters are available for hire and a great fun way to tour around the island but could be better maintained, two we tried did not work and one broke down enroute. Overall our stay was relaxing and very enjoyable but the food was a real letdown. Good breakfasts but other meals disappointing, ranged from the honestly inedible to ok.
