“What a location!”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

The first 2 nights we had the cheap beachfront bungalow, basic but very ok. Then we were able to transfer to the big bungalow with a huge balcony and an outside shower and bath! great!
Very friendly staff and owners and great food!

My fiancee and I spent two nights at Villa Marmarine on Siquijor in July, 2012.

Others have described the resort in great detail. Just let me say that this is what Paradise looks and feels like. There may be things that need improving at the resort. But when you're sitting on that restaurant deck in the early evening or early morning, looking out across the clear ocean water and white sand through the coconut palms, there is no better place on earth. I suppose that if you were paying 5 or 6 times more money elsewhere, you could have a similar experience. But on my limited budget, this is the real thing.

In addition, Siquijor is the most beautiful island I've seen in the Philippines (out of 6 that I've visited). I am so thankful that its reputation for black magic and witchcraft has kept the powerful from turning it into a replica of touristy Boracay or Panglao on one hand or industrial Mindanao on the other. You can ride all around the island on a motorbike (350 pesos plus gas for 24 hours) and encounter almost no traffic, but you will encounter plenty of wonderful people and places along the way. We have property on beautiful Bohol, but this is where we will come for a vacation.

Room Tip: Get one of the big cottages that sleep 4-6 people. The smaller rooms are okay, but the bigger cottag...

The stay at Villa Marmarine exceeded all our expectations! The accommodation is so amazingly beautiful! Moreover the owner and the staff are so nice and extremely helpful. We forgot my drivers licence and camera charger and they have send it without any troubles to our next location in Palawan. We also played tennis with the staff and owner! We felt like we were part of the family although we only stayed their for 4 nights (unfortunately). They also were very helpful with buying out tickets for the ferry for the next morning! We could use the snorkeling gear free of charge as well as the laundry service, which was also free of charge. This is a place we definitely want to come back to! We like to thank Dagman and the rest of the staff for the great service!

This is a place where you can wind down after some busy travelling. The owners are so wonderful, you can feel they put their heart into it. The staff is very friendly and helpfull too. True, not a whole lot to do in Siquijor, but having breakfast on the terrace, you feel in paradise, watching sunset in one of the chairs on the beach even more, play some tennis in the evening with the staff, you can rent a moterbike, go diving or snorkeling. We did some exellent snorkeling on a day trip, a day we won't lightly forget. We had a room for four, it was huge! From all four of us, this was our favourite stay and we were sad to leave!

The hotel staff were helpful. Food was not bad. The beach front is alright, not much to see with a snorkel underwater though. One can lounge in hammocks tied to two coconut trees by the beach. There's a warning sign though to be careful of falling coconuts. We stayed at the Angel 2 budget fan room at P800 per night. It was small but clean and adequate. The complimentary coconut-based shampoo and conditioner are great. The smoked glass windows have small holes in between though making it challenging to dress up privately. Worst part was we heard the sound of a squeeking mouse in the middle of the night while we were asleep. It woke us up and scared my wife off. She thought the mouse might have climbed up the bed and went inside the mosquito net. Upon checking, it seems the sound came from either inside the wooden walls or ceiling or the floor. Other than that, it was a pleasant and affordable stay. It is only 10-15 minutes from the Siquijor pier. We arranged for pickup with a tricycle driver which gave us a tricycle tour of the island, since the place is a 5 minute walk from the main road.

However, we were thinking it might be better to stay in a resort along San Juan beach near the Tulapos Marine Sanctuary, so that one can at least see corals and fish snorkelling underwater, but we were told by our tricycle driver that the waves are too strong, also the main bridge to the area was unde repair, and it is about 30 minutes from the Siquijor pier.

Room Tip: If you are on a budget, the Angel 2 room is small but adequate. Be prepared of a mice surprise from...

Other reviewers have it right: a bit of paradise on laid-back Siquijor Island. Eat breakfast on the deck overlooking the sea. Watch the fishermen paddle by. Play tennis. Rent a scooter and ride around the island. Go for a swim or a snorkel (but try to make it high tide). Chat with the owner and with the charming, professional staff. Have a great dinner. And when you have to leave, reluctantly take a trike back into town.
