“Hidden Jewel”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

We had the pleasant experience of staying at the Princesa Bulakna Resort for two nights and three days. Our group numbered 9 people including 4 children ages 12 years down to 5 years of age. After a horrible experience at another resort we stumbled onto the Princesa and were overjoyed that we did. The resort is going through an upgrade in services and facilities under the direction of their new General Manager James Stoodard, a world traveled professional and the level of service reflects his attention to detail and emphasis on customer satisfaction. The very friendly and helpful owner, Dr. Ed Apolinar made a good choice in selecting James as a world class manager.

The children were more than happy with the resort and protested loudly when it was time to go. They spent hours in the swimming pool and scouring the tide water pools for starfish, crabs and shells that they displayed to us in abundance. The pool maintenance was first rate with the staff starting to clean and care for it at first light, about 5:15 am and throughout the day. It is difficult to get the kids to agree on anything but they all gave the resort a thumbs up and clamored to come back again soon.

From our balcony, we enjoyed a seemingly constant breeze coming off the ocean and from our elevated height remarked over and over how beautiful the surrounding scenery was and what a hidden treasure the resort was.

The food was good with James, who has only been working at the resort a month, striving to upgrade the dishes to international standards. I had most of my meals there and found the food to be satisfying.

I give this resort the highest recommendation in part to the efforts of it's manager James and I am sure when we go back in March, when the children are out of school, we will be once again, fully pleased and satisfied.

We wanted to stay in this resort and decided to stop by and have a meal. It was completely deserted, overprised meals, rooms, almost nothing available from the menu. Green water in the swimmingpool... It looked like a place, that was nice and full of life 15yrs ago... There are much nicer places in Siquijor then this one. And after eating the lunch there, we were sick for the next two days....

if you are looking for a resort with amazing amenities, do not stay here. again, this resort is not your dream destination if you are looking for a posh resort. What the place lacks in beauty, the resort staff compensates for being very attentive. For me, I got my money's worth because I was treated like a princess. The resort doesn't have a lot of visitors so we had the whole resort to ourselves. We were 14 in the group and we will definitely go back to bulakna.

Room Tip: pick the rooms close to the pool. the view of the sunset was amazing.

We intended to stay for 2 nights but couldn't wait to leave after our first night. The rooms are very basic and very dated. Noisy air con, tv didn't work, cockroaches in our room. The meal we ordered took 3 hours and when it arrived it was cold. Swimming pool looked nice but on close inspection was very cloudy and I wouldn't let my daughter swim in it.
The whole resort looked tired and needs a lot of money spent on it. The room rate is far too high for the level of comfort and the restaurant service diabolical.

Room Tip: Dont stay here

Im not a frequent traveller but I find the mystic island of Siquijor interesting so I booked a flight to Dumaguete, took a ferry boat and stayed to this resort for 2 nights with my gf.

It was off peak season and there were only 2 guests in the resort when we arrived. We were welcomed by the very nice and accomodating staffs and their manager Phil. The room is neat and spacious, the food is good and the service is great. Phil recommended for us to hire a jeepney that will tour us around the island. It was a great experience and I will never enjoy it without the assistance of Phil.

The resort is great for couples who are looking for a quiet place to relax.

Thanks again for a wonderful experience and I look forward for the next visit.

Room Tip: Bring cash just in case the CC terminal will not work

If you want an off the beaten path, far from the throngs of tourists kind of resort in Siquijor, this is probably one of the best the island has to offer. It is a half hectare property with a small forest of large trees which makes it great for communing with nature and surprisingly, bird watching! Food is ok and artfully presented. The beach fronting the resort isn't as pretty but very clean but a public beach with less coral is just near the resort. It also has an infinity pool which is well maintained. Best of all, the staff was friendly and accommodating,.

We were at Bulakna the whole time we were in Siquijor approximately 3 weeks. Their service were more than adequate. Lovely place, lovely people. They were very friendly, dependable and considerate. If there were electricity failure they were very efficient in getting the electricity back on. We developed friendly bonds that will last forever! We look forward in returning. Our best vacation ever!!!
