The Danish Lagoon Luxury Beach Resort
Reviewed January 24, 2013

There are many reviews of The Danish Lagoon on Trip Advisor raving about the food, the bungalows, the owners, the staff and the view.
Having booked for 12 days around Christmas, we were quite excited about our stay. I must say we were not disappointed!

The bungalows are spacious, clean and well kept with a private veranda overlooking the sea. We spent all the evenings there, nipping to a cold drink and watching the beautiful sunset.
The restaurant was very efficient and served delicious food. We tried almost everything on the menu at it was all excellent.

The lovely staff is the most professional, friendliest, and most informative of any place we have stayed. You'd want to take them with you when you leave!

The owners Johnnie, Randi, Jimmy and Lone will arrange anything you want to experience, from transportation, diving, local healers and sight seeing. The are great story tellers and have a big heart for their staff and for Siquijor. If you want to take a tricycle day-trip around Siquijor, make sure you book Noel. He is a great guide.

The snorkeling off the Danish Lagoon beach is not very good though. The water is too shallow and the bottom is covered with seaweed. Take a tricycle trip to Coco Grove, just south of San Juan. There is a stretch of public beach between Coco Grove and the dive shop which has marine park just outside with excellent snorkeling.

Would I recommend Danish Lagoon to my best friend? Absolutely!!

I have always been on fieldwork duty during the yuletide season but was fortunate enough this time to unexpectedly be able to spend Christmas 2012 with my family so we immediately selected from a list of resorts that we have previously googled and ultimately decided to have our short vacation at the Danish Lagoon Luxury Beach Resort in Siquijor since we have read some good reviews about this resort during the first few months of their operation.

We called them up at 63 908 6270975 last 13 December 2012 around 2000 hrs and we were able to confer with Jessa who informed us that there was still an available room for our family of three from 20 December 2012 (check in date) to 24 December 2012 (check out date) and after inquiring about the available activities at the resort, we have advised Jessa that we would be sending them an email in an hour or so regarding our reservation as well as our requested daily activities for the duration of our stay at the Danish Lagoon Luxury Beach Resort.

We again then called up Jessa around 2200 hrs that same night after emailing them our personal details and intended flight schedule including our daily itinerary of activities for their confirmation with an additional request for land / sea transport from the airport until the beach resort upon our arrival and also from the beach resort to the airport on our departure date. However, she informed us that she has no access to the resort’s computer but nevertheless assured us that the owner will be reading the emails that night and will surely be replying to our email the following morning.

When we did not receive a reply from them the following morning of 14 December 2012, we opted to call up Jessa in the early afternoon but it was Helen who answered the phone and subsequently relayed the information that Jessa was currently on her day off. We consequently inquired if they have received our email last night but Helen regretfully told us that she was uncertain as only the owner has access to the computer so we then asked if the owner is around and if we could possibly speak to her or him.

Helen replied that the owner was in her room but she could not be disturbed at the moment so she suggested that she would just be sending her a text message regarding our reservation and again gave us the assurance that the owner would surely be sending her confirmation within the day in response to our email that was sent last night.

Well the owner finally did send us an email that evening but instead of confirming our reservation, she surprisingly notified us that they were now fully booked which was truly strange as it was only last night that we were appropriately advised by Jessa about the availability of a room for our family and who likewise had assisted us in organizing a list of our daily activities from 20-24 December 2012 only to suddenly receive a much awaited email from the owner stating that ‘sorry we are fully booked for this days….you are welcome to take contact another time”.

So based solely on our abbreviated interaction with the Danish Lagoon Luxury Beach Resort in Siquijor, we can only surmise that its personnel are rather courteous and accommodating but the management, simply unpredictable.

We stated at Danish lagoon for 2 nights during our last days. It was a wonderful place! Rooms spotless and the garden is very well Manicured. The owner jonnie is so friendly and extremely helpful. He enjoyed a few sunset beers in the pool with us. He even drove us to the pier on our last day. I also made a review under restaurants about the food here. The burgers are amazing! You will enjoy a stay here!

Excellent cottages (we stayed in the "Ugly Duckling") - really, really well designed and beautiful to look at. Rooms feature a fridge, a TV (if you need that) - and a view to die for! A bit sad, though, to already see quite some aging in these not very old buildings, especially in the bathroom (not at all an issue).
The restaurant is somewhere between ok and excellent (the burgers and the BBQ chicken are really good), but not the place to go for authentic Filipino food, I guess. Staff was really nice and helpful. The owners are really nice, though a bit in a weird but authentic way.
As they say - bring cash, since there is only one "real" ATM on the entire island and though we got lucky there, this was not necessarily the case always in the Philippines. (They do not accept cash).

The entire area is really nicely decorated and very well maintained. The only exception is the beach. It is nice to look at including the little mermaid, but not if you get too close: broken glass, a bit dirty and the water is also not spectacular. Enjoy a beer looking at it, but do not get too close, would be my recommendation.

I more than recommend the tour with Noel, the guide-of-choice in the Danish Lagoon. Excellent, fantastic (and when we arrived late in the evening, they were able to arrange this tour the next day on short notice). Pick up by the hotel is reasonably priced (250 PHP - we arrived a bit off-schedule and we got slightly overcharged by the tricyle driver when we needed to pick one our own..).

We spent two weeks on Siquijor, and visited the Danish lagoon a couple of times during our stay. The staff and owners were most welcoming, and Johnny is a treasure trove of amazing stories. He's been around, screwed up in a million entertaining ways and love to tell the stories. Besides the charismatic owners the food there is awesome. It's fairly expensive by PH standards, but then it is a resort, so that's really to be expected. About the burgers, I've just got to say one thing. Wow. Just wow. Make sure you're very hungry.

We stayed there as a couple and instantly fell in love with the rooms. You can feel, that all the details were planned and constructed by a genius! The maintenance is constantly in progress, so you can't see any kind of "being run down" as you can see sometimes at other Hotels - already a year after opening.

The view over the see and the total privacy makes it suitable for any couple - and the beds are rocking ;)

The staff (including the management) really makes you feel comfortable - you become a part of the "family".

I will definately book again!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Danish Lagoon a few days at Christmas time and the one word that describes the resort best, is AWESOME.
We got to the island after an exhausting trip on the oldest ferry I have ever been on. It was so scary but as soon as we reached the port we were friendly welcomed by one of the resort staff.
After a little trip on the tricycle we could not have been happier to get to this fantastic place.
The people we met there, were the friendliest people on earth.

The rooms are spacious and modern furnished. The only thing I did not like about the room was the bed. Whenever one of us turned around at night, the other one woke up since the bed is hanging on those 4 "ropes" and has only 2 hinges connected with wall. So after half of our first night my boyfriend had to move to the extra bed! Bummer :(
But other than that, the room was really comfi.

The Danish Lagoon is also the best place to stay for dinner. We tried some other resorts (e.g. Coco Groove Resort, Villa Marmarine, .. ) but the food was by far not that good.
Since we stayed over Christmas Eve, we had the pleasure to join the Christmas Eve Dinner at the resort. Jimmie and his team prepare the most delicious meal, I have ever eaten!!!!

The island itself is great for adventures but is definitly not good for bathing vacation, since there are only a few spots where the beach is nice ( Salag Do-ong is a must-see!!).

I would not have wanna missed this place! It's one of the nicest, most relaxing places in the world I have ever visited!!!
