Culture, cuisine, comfort and communicatiion...........what more could we want........Orpheus has given us a wonderful combination of these key ingredients.

This was a return visit to Orpheus. Our first to experience the 'new' Orpheus, since it's renovations.

WOW! From the first for us, slick 'Swift' boat ride across from Palm Island, to the first glimpse of the new visual arrival aspect of the stunning endless pool across the water, to the redesigned gardens with the dancing Boab trees, along the boardwalk, to the comfort plus new accomodation...just WOW!

Ben, our host, and his accomplished staff, ensured that we became part of the Orpheus family during our stay. That's the way we liked it, no doubt, whatever you choose to be your experience, that will be provided.

From new learning experiences, such as Indigenous culture and history, and a visit to nearby Fantome Island, with our Indigenous guide, John, to familiarising ourselves with the local Barrier Reef Environmental updates, to the positively scrumptious day to day Culinary magic of Chef and his staff. Chef rightly so, prides himself on the use of local, fresh ingredients, harmony and good health the perfect coimpanions!

Snorkelling trips to amaze and delight us, including a trip to the Outer Reef, the nearby Clam Gardens, the Research station, and the kaleidescope of colours and coral and sealife at the Coral Gardens.

Just book a trip and GO!

p.s Don't forget to dine under the stars on the jetty with candle light, listening to the gentle swish of the water lapping up on the beach. After dinner you can grab a torch/flashlight, and go spotting the evening adventures of the huge rays that feed at night under the jetty, you might even find a Bandicoot, and a cute little echidna toddling along the path too!

So we bid farewell via the scenic helicopter ride back to the mainland, and on to what Mother Nature was unleashing in chilly Melbourne..........memories and photos till we return again!

Upon my arrival the resort managers gave us a warm and informative welcome along with the invitation to relax and enjoy which we did great style and comfort. The beach style understated accommodation was fitting for the National Pack environment and with everything one could wish. The gourmet and wine list were enjoyed with gusto and the 7 course degustation menu in the evenings was an indulgence. Activities both in on and around the waters are plentiful and one can do as much or as little without guilt or pressure. We'll certainly be back. As far as "high end" destinations on the reef go - none can match the special charm, character and service of this glorious place

Having travelled the world staying at Four Seasons, Oberoi, Westin, Peninsula etc and at Lizard Island and Hayman I feel qualified to offer a review on Orpheus.
Quite simply the promise is delivered from booking to the website to the wonderful Resort Manager Ben, the talented Chef Ari and the warm friendly staff. It is an island paradise where you can truly relax. No raft of decisions each day of what to eat or what to do its all so easy. All inclusive price is a stress free way to go. The food was amazing utilisation of fresh local seafood delicious. As a foodie I expected something nice but was blown away by the standard Ari is a top chef. The different experiences were great snorkelling the clam gardens, cultural tour of fantome island. I travelled with a baby and staff were only too happy to hold her at times when I was eating. This resort leaves hayman and others far behind on service, food, top accomodation. I highly recommend.

On our first tour through Australia we chose Orpheus Island Resort for our stay to explore the Great Barrier Reef. It is a bit of trek to get there but worth the journey in every way. It is a small eco resort and the only neighbor is Earthwatch.org's research station and the birds and sea life. You arrive by boat or sea plane. The staff is kind and familial without being invasive. They will meet your needs and requests without approaching it in a sub-serviant manner, rather more like kind host. The small 'cottages' are clean and comfortable without fuss but with abundant special touches such as delicious loose leaf teas and fabulous bath products. The chef discusses meals with you and accommodates dietary requests and everything was delicious, and again abundant. We wished we could have stayed longer and we hope to return.

Rarely do all things line up on an Island holiday but Orpheus has the lot. All rooms look out across the water, are very spacious with very large comfortable beds & beautiful furniture & fittings. Bathroom Diantree toiletries were exrtemely good quality. The gardens are beautiful, very tropical with lots of plants & grassy areas. The common dining & lounge areas are lovely relaxing rooms with big comfy chairs perfect for sipping a drink from the 'open bar', looking out to sea or reading a book. All activities available are worthwhile esp snorkeling at the Coral Gardens, taking a private boat to a deserted Island with a gourmet picnic, a sunset cruise over giant clams. The lookout above the resort is a must see & a great place to watch the sun come down (staff will pack drinks & nibbles for you). Look out for Mr Nicholson's grave! The quality & variety of food from Uberchef Arie is absolutely outstanding. Staff were always on hand to see to our every need. We have never felt so spoiled but so relaxed at the same time. Everything is included. All you need to take is your toothbrush, some PJ's & a pair of swimmers!

Room Tip: All rooms have great sea views & are quite spacious
