We had a 3 night stay on Lady Elliot in early October.
The island is absolutely breathtaking.
It is like stepping back in time no phones no Internet unless in their office no cars just so relaxing.
We stayed in Island suites one second and you step onto the beach. Clean comfortable.
Remember this is an Eco resort so you are not there for a 4 or 5 star hotel. Though the view from the balcony definitely is !!!
The staff are amazing their love and enthusiasm for Lady Elliot really shines through.
The restaurant is a little like school camp however, my kids loved their thick shakes and we loved the cocktails
They even provided us with a cheese plate and nibbles and cold wine to take over the other side of the island to watch the sunset.
There is bird life everywhere
The snorkeling was WOW and WOW we scratched friendly turtles backs saw amazing fish ( just like in Finding Nemo ) even swam with reef sharks! Devine we loved every minute.
So if you are considering going Just So It.
We will go back again.

We spent a day on Lady Elliot Island which had been recommended to us by an Australian friend who lives on the Gold Coast. We were unable to stay over, as the accommodation is limited. However, our day trip was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our Australian visit, as we were there in the nesting season and the island was alive with birds. There were literally thousands of terns and noddies and many less common birds. We walked a fair bit of the compact island, had two sessions of schnorkelling and a trip in a glass-bottomed boat over the reef, when we saw turtles. The flight over to the island in a smallplane was special as the island seen from the air, ringed by its reef is magical. While it is a unique trip, the experience does not come cheap,

Having stayed at both Heron and Lady Elliott i would go Heron every time, LEI is like stepping back into the 1970s, it is old, staff are arrogant and careless, you pay 6 star rates for a fibro shack... dont do it you will be disappointed.

Room Tip: Go to Heron Island

We were very disappointed to read about your experience on Lady Elliot Island. As our website states, Lady Elliot Island Eco Resort offers a range of comfortable accommodation options, with each suite, unit and cabin designed to minimise impact on the island while enriching guests experience of the seasonal wildlife. The Resort was established 1984 when a series of prefabricated buildings were brought to the island and these buildings are still in use today.

Clearly, this type of accommodation is not going to suit everyone but it is also one of the things our repeat guests love about our precious little Island. We aren't trying to compete with the luxury 4 and 5 star resorts, there is an abundance of those in Australia and around the world. We are trying to run a sustainable eco resort where guests can enjoy a relaxing escape from the mainland with minimal impact on the environment.

Considering the remote location of the Island, everything has to be flow on/off by small aircraft (or large items by barge from Gladstone 4 times a year), our prices are very reasonable. Don't forget that the overnight rate includes full buffet dinner and breakfast, snorkel equipment that guests can keep for the duration of their stay, a glass bottom boat/guided snorkel tour and all guided activities.

We were very surprised to hear your comments regarding our staff. My sincere apologies if any members of our staff appeared arrogant or careless, you only have to read the previous reviews on Trip Advisor to see that this is not how other guests have perceived our staff. Our staff strive to deliver exceptional customer service to ensure that all our guests enjoy their stay on Lady Elliot Island.

We wish you all the best with your future travels :)

This is my favourite place in Australia, where I go when I need to recharge the batteries! I love having the reef on your doorstep and the snorkelling is amazing... turtles, manta rays and marine life galore. I have witnessed the magic of turtles nesting and the gorgeous little turtle hatchlings making their way to the ocean.
It is a real eco resort and they encourage guests to help look after the environment. The units are simple but comfortable, there is no airconditioning in the rooms except for the suites. Fridges are turned off unless you need them. They make their own power and water on the island so it has to be used sparingly.
The staff are great and so passionate about the place that they live and work. The food is nothing out of the ordinary but more than adequate. Prices are very reasonable considering that this is a remote island resort and they have to fly everything in.
Can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: We chose the Reef Unit located right on the beach!

Lady Elliot Island 8okms off Bundaberg Queensland, Australia was our week of bliss on a well designed and cared for Eco Island. Able to accommodate 150 people we were 3 of 28 spending a week in a budget 3 person cabin with ensuite. Day trippers flew in each day and watched on with envy as they had t leave paradise. Flights, accommodation food, activities and equipment all included was real value for money. Add to this two very keen, qualified marine biologists ready to greet you on arrival, equip you with snorkelling gear and then take you on informative daily tours was a real bonus. Snorkelling available each day in the lagoon, lighthouse or the coral gardens. Awesome marine life abounds. We were spoilt for choice. Then there is the glass bottom boat to take you outside the reef for scuba and snorkelling sessions. A week was just perfect. It was a real tropical island holiday. No pretention. No need to spend a cent while there just sit back relax and enjoy. Story book stuff.

We stayed 3 nights in a reef unit and loved every minute of our time on the island. The staff were exceptional, they were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and fun! The food was great, accommodation clean and comfortable but it is the reef you come to experience and it was unforgettable! Snorkeling in the lagoon at high tide with turtles, reef walking at low tide and finding clams, a reef shark and more, snorkeling off the west side anytime of the day - it was amazing. We want to go back again and experience more of this wonderful island.

Thank you to all the managers and staff for creating such a wonderful atmosphere throughout our whole Lady Elliot Island experience. We felt so welcome and part of the family with a resort so well managed, operated and run with friendly staff in every division.

We were warmly welcomed with an excellent initial brief of the island and operations which set the scene for a fully relaxing holiday fullfilled with enough activities to keep us as busy or relaxed as we could wish for.

Our holiday package included buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner which was a fantastic choice. Each meal was cooked fresh on site and was presented in a beautiful clean environment with amazing views into the lagoon. The food was delicious with such a variety to suit all ages. The meals always provided vegetarian and gluten free options with a variety of meats, vegies and salads all cooked in different ways each day.

The Island is a completely safe environment with amazing snorking and diving opportunities. The wild life under the sea is so diverse and acustomed to visitors. Turtles enjoy a gentle pat on the back and schools of fish are in abundance to swim through. The manta rays are a special experience - to share a connection underwater with such a large creature just out of arms reach !!

Thank you Lady Elliot Island for all your beauty.
