“Gem of a holiday home with spacious balcony and fabulous views.”

We have holidayed around Lake Iseo before and prefer the northern end of the lake with its dramatic, mountainous skyline and quaint, traditional villages and so this house set above Lovere was ideal for us. "We" being two couples, wanting two bedrooms and two bathrooms for convenience. Casa Viola has one double bedroom and a two single bedded room on the first floor. The main bathroom is on the ground floor with the kitchen and lounge. The second bathroom is located under the house with the laundry room and is accessed from the garden.
It was a bit of a challenge for us oldies, negotiating the stairs in the middle of the night when nature calls, but it was a small price to pay for such a lovely house.
The Marina view from the balcony is stunning, both for morning breakfast and for evening drinks. We spent lazy days reading one of the many books available from the bookcase, lounging on the sun beds in the full sun or sitting under the wonderful shade of the vines.
Antonella kindly gave us use of bicycles and the athletic one of us even cycled the whole 40 miles around the lake, not for the feint hearted or unfit !! However the cycle track from Pisogne to Vello using the old road (approx 5 miles) is very picturesque and recommended even for the less fit ! Bicycles are hireable from many villages including Pisogne.
Although car hire is necessary to get from Bergamo and to sight see afar, both Castro and Lovere are walkable from Casa Viola from where you can catch ferries which criss cross the lake. You can pick up a timetable and check out market days or take your towel and swim in the lake. Talking of towels, Antonella will provide bed linen and towels at a cost of 15 euros per person and there is a washing machine if you need to freshen them up.
Do try the local restaurants, many serve regional dishes and lake caught fish dishes and the Vulcano Village in Castro will do take away pizzas for cheap night in! If you enjoy Italian wine, do go up to Tacchilini's which is 5 minutes drive up the road. It is a warehouse where you can purchase good locally produced wine by the 5 litre container for around 2 euros a litre.
The weather was exceptionally hot and the only down side was that we couldn't get cool even with fans in the bedrooms and so we had to take midnight showers to cool down. The mozzies were out for new blood too, so use repellant.
All in all, a fantastic holiday in a fabulous house. Sorry for long review, but it had to be said !!

“Beautiful and relaxing on Lake Iseo”
Reviewed October 1, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We had a lovely and relaxing holiday for the six days that we stayed at Casa Viola. We had one small problem while we were there and Antonella was there quickly and it was sorted with efficiency and a smile. Finding the entrance was a challenge to start with but we soon got used to it. Lovely location and view.

“Look no further, Casa Viola is ideal!”
Reviewed June 22, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

We all have different criteria when selecting a rental property and location is often at the top. If you want that slightly 'less touristy' flavour of Italy but still within reach of the main attractions this is a great place. Secure parking was a real bonus and once you get used to the 'turn in' off the main road it was fine; drive in turn round in the parking area - drive out. Italian drivers are not lunatics at all either, so take the car and explore.
This house is well presented and comfortable, no en-suites and the bathroom is downstairs but that never bothered us as we were a couple on our own but it would suit a family easily. The balcony is great for breakfast or home cooked evening meals if you don't want to go out.
Antonella, the wonderful host, has really put lots of effort into making the place comfortable and being able to speak English was a huge bonus. She's not intrusive but willing to advise and help at the drop of a hat. There is lots of literature in the house on where to go and the Tourist Information lady down in town has great English too.
We had unusually hot weather for early June, expecting mid 20C but got high 30s! That said, the rain which was forecast arrived one day out of ten, so we were happy, if not a little frazzled; no aircon but frankly it shouldn't be needed normally.
Given the chance we would return as it was a haven from the usual venues. I would go in June to avoid the crowds, unless you like that. Didn't eat out in Lovere due to mobility problems but a brilliant 10 days with so much on offer here.
