After much deliberation of where to stay when visiting Lake Como I decided on this hotel. I wanted a room with a lake view and balcony, and many places were coming up very expensive. I'm so pleased I decided to stay here.
I drove from Bergamo airport, which took about 1hr 30 minutes. Check in was good, and the lady was really friendly and helpful. I wasn't in the room for long because I wanted to catch a ferry to Lenno where I walked to Menaggio, but I was so happy with the room and especially the view! The floor boards creaked a little bit by the door, I was on the first floor so at least it wasn't disturbing guests underneath me. The bed was big with lovely crisp, clean linen. The bathroom had nice toiletries, was clean and had a good shower. The ferry stop isn't far from the hotel, but there aren't any pavements so you just have to be careful of the cars. Ferries aren't very regular nor do they run till very late, so I would check the times to plan your day before you go because you don't want to be left stuck somewhere and have to pay for a taxi (I don't know how much these cost here).
The service and food in the restaurant was great, really friendly waiting staff. I didn't have a table right by the lake, but I still got a good view of the lake watching the sunset while enjoying my dinner. The bruschetta was lovely, tasted so much better than bruschetta I've had in the UK. The pizza was delicious and they didn't scrimp on the tiramisu portion. I was more than happy with the 23 euros for three courses.
Because of only being on the first floor and there being a small road between the hotel and the restaurant I wondered if there'd be a lot of noise when sleeping. But when the door was closed I didn't hear enough to keep me up or wake me up. I wouldn't say it was the most comfortable bed I've slept in, but to wake up and see that view from my bed made it a great start to the day.
The décor of the hotel was really nice, including the breakfast area. For breakfast there was enough to choose from, including a gluten free section. The waiter would make fresh coffee from the bar as well, so it is not just from the machine. There's a nice selection of breads and toppings, yoghurts and fruit. I wish I could have stayed in one of their villa rooms, but it was too expensive for just me. But I'd love to return here again and stay longer. A really great stay!
