We spent three nights at Hotel Villa Aurora prior to our departure home. It was one of the roomiest and cleanest hotels we stayed at in Italy. The breakfast was substantial, the service was great and the restaurant next door was also fantastic. They offer equipment for water activities (such as kayaks, lilos and trampolines). The only point to consider is the location - there is nothing in this tiny town of Lezzeno so you really need to travel to Bellagio for a selection of shops and restaurants which is only a 10 minute drive. The drive to and from Como is quite horrible (unless you enjoy driving on the edge of a cliff on one way roads most of the time). There is no way around this - there are no other roads in and out of Lezzeno. But despite this, the hotel itself was beautiful (the views were amazing) and would definitely recommend it.

Lake Como is possibly one of the most beautiful areas in the world and Villa Aurora the perfect place to explore it from. We hired a car from Milan Linate airport and drove up to Lake Como. The instructions were a little vague but it is actually very easy to find once you get on the right track, it took us just over an hour the last part of the journey being stunning alongside the lake. That was actually the last time we used the car though until our return journey so not sure whether next time we may consider other forms of public transport. As soon as we arrived at the hotel we were greeted in a friendly way and could tell that we had made the right choice. Set alongside the lake the view was breathtaking. We had a superior room in the annexe and it was clean and well furnished,a good size and again had a fantastic view of the lake. All of the staff without exception were very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was so nice that we ended up eating there everynight which had not been our initial intention. We were lucky that the weather was also glorious so it was very tempting to just laze the days away on the sun terrace and watch the boats come and go, but we did force ourselves out. Catching the ferries was easy from just along the road and the hotel guided us on where to visit and our travelling options. There is something about the Italian way of life that just relaxes, there is no rush and I felt like I had somehow stepped back in time. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, our trip was a perfect way to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. In the interest of balance I should say that, yes it is very isolated, there is not really anthing else in Lezzeno but this suited us fine, and public transport made easy access of all of the nearby towns. Excellent value for money. We will definitely return with our children who I am sure will love the water sports that are available from the hotel.

Room Tip: First floor annexe rooms lead directly onto a nice sun terrace over looking the lake.

Where to start...?! We got the train from Milan, which is a short 30 minute ride. We then bought our bus tickets for the C30 inside the train station (at the coffee shop) and enjoyed a 45 minute ride up to Lezzeno admiring the beautiful views. The bus stops right outside the hotel which is extremely handy! Just ask the bus drivers to give you a shout when it's time to get off!
Our room was spectacular! For 100 Euros per night, it's great value for money if you get a lake view. The scenery is breath taking. Rooms are immaculate and decorated/furnished to a high standard.
The hotel is family run and all of the staff are lovely. They speak multiple languages and are extremely friendly and helpful. They give the hotel and a real homely vibe.
The food in the restaurant is beautiful and after traveling around major cities in Italy, it was refreshing to finally get value for money! 8 Euro a beer in Rome compared to 3.50 Euro at Aurora! The menu mainly consists of locally caught fresh seafood, and is obviously a real hit around town as it was buzzing both nights we ate there. There is a compulsary 3.50 service charge per person added to your bill, 4.50 when the band is on.
Unfortunately, we were only at Aurora for a couple of nights so made the most of the facilities and didn't venture around Lezzeno or beyond. However, we spent our time sunbathing on the deck and using the great facilities on the lake...for free! Inflateables, kayaks and much more! However, I did find it annoying how people not staying in the hotel can also use them and you may find yourself "waiting for your turn".
We also rented a speed boat from the hotel for 60 Euros for an hour. This was the best experience of our entire trip! You can rent from an hour up to a whole day to explore the lake on your own.
We absolutely loved this hotel, and as I've said, it was the highlight of our trip and we will cherish the memories from Hotel Aurora. Our only regret is that we didn't stay for longer. We're already planning our next trip!!

We stayed for two nights during the middle of the week. The hotel is positioned in the town of Lezzeno, which is a sleepy town banking the side of Lake Como. The town is quite large winding the road for at least a KM and has two small shops, a bank and a ferry stop and that is about it, The hotel is the towns biggest attraction but it's peaceful and a lot quieter than the other side of Lake Como, and it also a sort distance from the town of Bellagio so we were happy. Unless your used to driving on such roads the road from Como is narrow and winds along, it could be a bit intimating and it takes a lot longer than you expect.

We arrived at the hotel and it has space for parking, the hotel flanks one side of the road and the restaurant, villa apartments and the jetty and deck the lake side. We had a room in the hotel which was a corner room, the hotel does not have a lift, which doesn't bother me but our room only had a fan, no A/C which made it a warm room to sleep in the evening, but it didn't overly bother me too much. The room was clean and very spacious, it only had a corner view of the lake but not a clear one. Generally the interior was what you expected of a three star hotel, comfortable enough but nothing special. The hotel provides free wifi which isn't really quick and the connection was a little inconsistent but its free so cant complain really.

The hotel is resort like, the breakfast provided is good enough, with enough choice but again is nothing to exceptional but it does the job. It has a restaurant which as being the only one in the town means its get busy however, if you reserve a table as hotel guest you get the best tables with a view facing out straight to the lake. The menu is vast and the food is very good, so we ended up eating both nights.

The deck beneath the restaurant has enough table and chairs to relax and the hotel provides kayaks, canoes, floating lie-los and a floating trampoline at no extra cost. You can also hire motor boats for €60 an hour , which is worth the money, and Lake Como is pretty unrestricted when it comes to rules of the road so you can drive around and swim in the lake as you wish.

Overall we enjoyed our stay, the staff are friendly, helpful and the hotel fulfills all the minimum requirements, the extras and the restaurant are a great addition and means that you can stay at the hotel for at least 2 days without having to venture out if you wish, I felt that if I stayed longer I would of eaten elsewhere just for a change.

Its only negatives are the room which is a little outdated and the lack of A/C however they weren't enough to ruin the trip. I have seen the modern Villa rooms and they looks good, so next time I would book a villa room. I would stay again but again for maybe only for 2 nights again.

We were expecting excellent views of the lake and a warm reception from this family-run establishment after reading so many favorable reviews. And all of that is true. But we also found a poetic beauty that charmed us from the moment we arrived. Everyone we met at the Aurora made us feel welcome and offered advice and helpful tips. We watched the children studying for school in the late afternoon and enjoyed the slice of life then and as we walked along the narrow streets of the small village and tasted local organic cheeses and honey down the road on our walk. The local fish served at the restaurant was wonderful and our room was a treat as well.

We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights in July. Our room was lovely, overlooking the lake and with a little balcony big enough for 2 chairs. The facilities are great with free kayaks and a water trampoline just off the private deck. My husband made use of the wakeboarding instructor which he loved and boarded for 5 full minutes during his first ever 20 minute lesson!!
Food is excellent with a huge selection at breakfast catering for everyone. We ate at the restaurant on 2 nights and again the selection is fantastic and the food delicious.
The hotel is in a very small town and a short walk from the bus stop and ferry stop both of which are very reasonably priced.
Because the hotel is in such a small town we found this to be the only drawback, you are very limited as to where to eat at night ... yes the hotel restaurant is fantastic but after 2 nights eating there we wanted to try something different. We did this by getting the bus to Bellagio for a couple of Euros each and we got a taxi back for 20 euros.
Despite this we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and Lake Como is of course absolutely beautiful. The rooms were clean and cool, the views amazing and the private deck and facilities brilliant.

Room Tip: we stayed in the main hotel and booked a lake view room, so glad we did, the views were stunning.

We have just returned from a 2 day stay in this superb Hotel. If you are looking for something a little off the beaten track but yet stil not too far away from the main tourist areas, then look no further. The best thing about this stay way the incredible warmth and hospitality of the family who own and run the business. Nothing seemed too much trouble, and they will help you with any ideas regarding what to do and places to see. they will even sell you the bus ticket at the front desk to get to Bellagio @ one euro fifty per person. the water taxi is no more than a seven minute walk away wheras the bus stop is one minute from the hotel door. The room was very clean and comfortable and the view overlooked the lake. A large ceiling fan keeps the occupants cool. A step across the road is the large and magnificent hotel restuarant, which we used on both of our evenings at the Hotel. The food, service and ambience was just brilliant. stepping back across the road after our meal, we visited the large indoor/outdoor bar for a couple of nightcaps, and here too everything was just perfect. Finally the spread at Breakfast was as good as you could ever want. All in all this hotel is just superb, but what really makes it special are the two ladies that run the place. well done girls you are both the reason why we will be back!! Garry and Maxine
