My partner and I stayed here for 3 nights at the end of July. Having spent a busy week at Lake Garda, we decided to visit Lake Como for a little more peace! The drive up to the hotel from the centre of Lake Como took about 50 minutes, the road is very windy and narrow and if you get behind a motorhome as we did, it can be quite a tedious journey. However, the minute you reach the hotel, you forget all about the motorhome and the tedious journey. This place is a little, undiscovered (it seems by many) spectacular place to stay with the most wonderful views of the lake. The business has been owned by the same family for over 300 years (obviously a few generations!) and is run precisely and perfectly in my opinion. The staff (family) are so helpful but most of all, sincere, one can tell that they are genuine people. The rooms are basic but very clean with nice recently refurbished bathrooms. The view from the bedroom and bathrooms as I said before are stunning. You fling open the shutters upon waking and you are in paradise! The hotel is right on the lake, infact you couldn't get any nearer to it if you tried. The pool is lovely and there are ample sunbeds. The visit to the restaurant is a must, this place is famous on Como and renowned for its wonderfully cooked food. The only downside for me was that we couldn't really go for a stroll after dinner. There is no pavement on the road and the nearest place to walk to is quite a walk, don't get me wrong I love walking, but walking on a bendy road with cars flying round at top speed is not for me. This of course is no fault of the hotel, but I had to point it out. To be honest, everything you need is at the hotel, food, drink, watersports, pool, free wi fi, there is even a lounge with a bookcase full of books that previous travellers have left behind. I would say that you need a car to visit this place as there are such wonderful places nearby. Bellagio is a ten minute drive, we took the car on the ferry across to the other side of the lake (31 euros return) and drove up to an adorable little place called Lanzo D'Intelvi, where you can follow a road which takes you to a mountain top where you can see the four lakes and the surrounding mountains. Another five minutes drive and you're in Switzerland (no need for passports anymore, the barrier was up and the checkpoint which once was was shut!) So, if you're thinking about Crotto Del Misto, I say just go for it!!! From Como centre just head towards Bellagio and you won't go wrong. By the way, ask the proprietor to show you around the cantina, it is over 300 years old and is absolutely fascinating. Have fun!!!
