This review is for the two room suite; not the regular hotel. If you can upgrade to the two room suite, I would highly recommend it because the value is amazing. You get your own apartment in a hundred year old house next to the hotel, with access to the roof deck and everything. You can self-cater and the house is gorgeous.

Skip the breakfast if you can; it's not good and you can get better grub for 5 euros. The husband that runs the place is super sweet and friendly. The wife seemed a bit rude, but perhaps it was just a language thing. However, I don't think she knows the words "please" or "thank you" -- whether they are in Italian or English or Pig Latin.

It's a really short and fun funicular ride to Como. Highly recommend.

We stayed 1 night in November with my boyfriend in Vista Lago..
It was the first Hotel that was actually nicer than its photos in internet!
The price was beyond than reasonable, I could never imagine that a hotel in this kind of location could be that economical. And ok, it was also because it was a low season, but we stayed at another hotel near by which we double payed.
Vista Lago must have been recently renovated, the room was small, but that was the beauty of it...A small paradise in the mountain...
And very important,...It was spotless, and I m very picky in that matter...and the view was undiscrible...I cannot count how many photos I took from our balcony...
Breakfast was good, nothing special, toast, cereals, coffee, juice, ham, cheese, nutella but the service was very friendly with a big smile!
We will definately -definately- return!

Staff were very friendly and spoke English. The rooms were very clean and seemed to be recently renovated. The drive up the mountain to the hotel was hair-raising and not recommended for a large car or the faint-hearted - you can reach the hotel by cable car. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and the scenery was spectacular - highly recommended if you can stomach the journey.

Lovely little hotel set in the quaint village of Brunate, away from the hustle and bustle of Como. Easily accessible by the funicular railway. Breathtaking views from the balcony. We ate here one night and weren't disappointed. Rooms are small but clean. Hotel staff were helpful. We emailed prior to our visit to ask for a room with a view and we certainly got one !!
Breakfast was basic with no variance from one morning to the next but nevertheless we really can't fault this hotel.

Typical Italian. Things didn't work quite to Northen European standards, but that's just one of the charms going to Italy. We were 6 guys staying for a long weekend of cycling (and the ride up to Brunate after a long day in the saddle can kill almost anyone - but the weak (like me) can opt to take the Funicular up (with the bike)).

The hotel had no problem that we filled the hallways with our bikes, and we where shown parking at a closed of spot next to the Funicular (3 mins walk from the hotel).

The rooms where not that big (but then again they seldom are in Europe), but everything worked perfectly (even the possibility to take long hot showers after a long day on the bike).

The last night we had our dinner at the hotel, and it was a feast!!! We'd eaten at another place in Brunate, which was quite nice, and one night down in Como, but this was clearly the best meal we got (and that says a lot when you're in Italy). They really went out of the way to make us happy and the food was just superb (actually not quite what we expected).

- Rooms: The view is just great but the rooms are very small. If your room has no balcony you can't really enjoy the view. The rooms have no AC! In summer it can be quite warm (however not as warm as down in the valley in Como) and if you want to have fresh air you have to sleep with the windows opened. The issue is that the rooms are facing the mainstreet. There's not much traffic but we woke up several times per night.

TV: satellite TV with hundreds of channels in all languages (first hotel that I have seen with more than 30 channels :-)

- Restaurant: Breakfast is just ridiculous! Sliced baguettes and some cheap muesli that's it basically. Coffee was bad for Italy (usually very very good in Italy). We haven't tried the restaurant for dinners.

- Parking: They say there's enough parking but this is not 100% true. In front of the church (20m from the hotel) is parking but this is private and if the church decides to close the entrance then you can't leave anymore. Since the hotel is just 5mins walk away from the train station (http://www.funicolarecomo.it/ - roundtrip 4,50€ per person) it would be also an option to leave the car in the valley. Keep also in mind that the roads to Brunate are partly very narrow and this can be a bit stressful for unexperienced drivers.

Summary: Nice location with restaurants (amazing views to Lake Como) in walking distance but too expensive.

This hotel is a cute typical Italian place. It is very clean and has stunning views. It is located in an itallian village (Brunate) at the top of the hill in Como. However you can take the tram down to the center and it takes only 7 minutes.
