Hotel Paradiso Sul Lago
Ranked #2 of 8 Brunate B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 3, 2013

Stayed at the Paradiso Sul Lago as part of a road trip across the north of Italy celebrating the good lady's birthday and seriously, I don't think either of us will encounter a more breathtaking view than the one from the hotel's terrace looking out over Lake Como.

The hosts Andrea and Paola make you feel incredibly welcome and nothing is too much trouble. The 3* rating is probably about right as this is essentially a no-frills B&B which is clean, well-run, serving a decent breakfast but the big draw, without doubt, is the view.

The location really is in the middle of nowhere and, if you did like we did and drove to the hotel, you need to have your wits about you and be prepared for the hair-raising journey from Como town up to the hotel!! The fact that, for the most part, the road is extremely narrow (even in a Fiat 500!!) and you have no idea what's coming round the numerous blind bends you have the pleasure of encountering makes this one journey where you shouldn't be in a rush to get to your destination!

A shuttle bus services the short journey to and from the funicular, approximately 5 minutes away, where you can enjoy further stunning views both from the top and on the journey down. We decided to stay out in Como town for dinner but it was no trouble for the hotel to pick us up late evening and take us back (that is unless you fancy a 20-minute walk uphill in the dark!!).

Would have no hesitation in returning if just to sit on the hotel's terrace with my good lady and a glass of Prosecco, watching the sun go down over Lake Como. A truly memorable sight to behold.

A little off the beaten path, but the view was well worth it. Make sure you get to the light house, and climb to the top. It can't be beat. You will have to travel down the mountain for a good meal, but again, worth it to experience the view of the lake.

Room Tip: I didn't pay extra for a lake view room, and I didn't mind, the patio was large enough for m...

The staff are very very helpful. The hotel itself is 7 min from the cable car to brunate, and then a a 15min work, but ring to get a lift. we stayed in a family room with a huge terrace. Food is not fantastuic, but the restaurant opposite and the one one km north has fantastic homemade fresh pasta. Defintely worth the walk/drive up.

The view of lake Como is the reason to stay here. Hotel owners and staff are fantastic, its a family run business with the kids watching cartoons in the dining room while you have the home made pizza. If your driving be prepared for a white knuckle ride up the hill from Como, a very narrow winding road with barely enough room for 1 car, look out for cyclists coming down the hill on weekends. The polenta restaurant just behind the hotel is a must, as the food is fantastic.

We stayed there for two nights with friends. hotel is on a very top of the mountain so the view from it is amazing!! from lake Como you have to take a cable car to get to Brunate village and the hotel is 2.2 km away from it..up the Hill..so my advice is ring the hotel for a lift before you get there. The owner is one of the nicest people we met so far ...he always offers a lift to town or to pick you up if needed didn't charge us for it.. anything you need you can ask him, he was very helpful and friendly in not annoying kind of way..
Hotel also has a swimming pool and sauna indoors and its great if weather is not so good. After all it was one of the best hotels so far..suits for all type of travellers. And the views around are Amaaaaaaaaaaazing:)

We loved staying here and were warmly welcomed by the owner - we had a lake view room (stunning view!) and found the rooms to be clean and tidy. We had dinner with the family which consisted of a woodfired pizza - places in small towns with such a warm welcome is the reason we came to Italy, we recommend you stay here! The road up is narrow but certainly no less tricky than any other routes in small town Italy!

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon and had a fantastic time. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, offering us free prosecco on arrival, free parking in the square, unlimited advise and guidance on the local area and attractions and even a free pick up from the top of the "funiculare" when the bus had finished running.

Due to bad weather, we were not able to use the pool and access to the hot tub was only possible on one night. All said though, this was not a problem and the views from the terrace were breathtaking.

The hotel is a good base for hiking. Also a short walk away from the hotel is a lighthouse, which is well worth a visit for even more breathtaking views, we went at sunset & got some awesome photos.

A word on the road to the hotel. Many describe it as "serpentine" and "a nightmare". Yes it's twisty, and yes in places its very narrow, but if you're a confident driver and you hire a medium to small sized car you will be absolutely fine. The Italians drive buses up and down it, how hard can it be?

Room Tip: We stayed in room 105 and views of the lake were fantastic.
