“A wonderful retreat in a beautiful village”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

If those two negative comments are anything to go by, one should refrain from taking seriously any of the crituques on this site. We were at Riviera this summer: a couple with teenager and spent a wonderful time there. Riviera is a lovely hotel with proprietors who are very committed to making your holiday in Gargnano a success! (G. Scanferlato lent me his own wrist bandage when I had trouble with my wrist...) Both proprietors will provide their guests with interesting details about history and culture of the village and area. They both demonstrate a fine taste as one can tell by the lovely pictures, antique musical instruments, etc. everywhere. Carpet, walls, furniture, bathrooms...everything brandnew and spotless. Comfy beds and good breakfast (including good coffee!!) on a terrace with a spectacular view - you will find all this Riviera for a rather moderate price! I cannot understand why someone passed a bad judgement of the hotel because of the absence of a free parking! What makes this village so nice is partly that cars have to be left outside. But the communal parking is a mere 200metres away and the cost of € 3,- for hotel guests is very fair! How anyone expects a parking lot in front of this hotel when the homepage clearly states what the case is beats me. It is like judging an ice cream parlour for the absence of a steak... We had two rooms that had an additional common entrance which made it like our own little appartment. One room that faced the inner courtyard is rather dark and one can hear ventilation and other noises - that is not so nice - true - but one has the choice and ought to choose the room that one likes. For our teenage daughter who is not keen on views it was no problem and, moreover, the room is quite affordable. The tiles on the terrace and lobby area are another example of how the proprietors have invested in this place, with taste and a sense for an old building...it must have cost a fortune. Anyone who claims otherwise cannot be in his right mind. And people who do not like the village for its lack of beaches should stay away! This is precisely the kind of tourist one will not miss in Gargnano!

Dear Mrs M...r,
I don't know what to say: your review is very gratifying, for us.
I can't say how good is for us that somebody recognises the passion we put in our hotel.
Thank you also for your defence. The bad reviews were due to a misunderstanding and the customer used TA as a revenge. Things that happen. It's good that you notice that.
Well, Hope your wrist is OK, now. See you soon, Gian

We can't say enough good things about this hotel. Everything was absolutely great even fantastic.
We spend a week in Hotel Garni Riviera in Gargnano, and it was a great place to spend it.
The room had a good size and 3 floor to sealing doors, so it was light and you got plenty of fresh air, together with the fan in the sealing.
The hotel is placed in the center of Gargnano near to everything: The harbour, cafées and restaurants, and the shops in this little village.
The hotel served their breakfirst at a terrace, with the most beautiful view to the Lake. What a way to start of the day!
We brought our roadbikes to our vacation, and the hotel had a fine room where the bikes could be stored and locked in. You get your own key, so you can get to them anytime you wish.
The owners of the hotel, does their best to make your stay as good as possible for you. They are so kind and helpfull. It's is like you don't stay at a hotel, but with a hostfamilly.
We can only recomend this hotel if you are going on vacation at the Lake Garda.

We stayed again in this small hotel two years after our first visit for a long weekend. We still can highly recommend this place. The owners are friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and the lake view rooms are worth the extra money. The decent breakfast is served on the open terrace with a fabulous lake view. In the evening you may also sit here and enjoy a bot-tle of wine or a beer (which you have to bring by yourself). The place is located in the historic part of the village right at the lake shore. For a small fee you can purchase parking tickets for the nearby public parking garage. Stores, restaurants and public beach are all within walking distance.

Friends had stayed here 4 times before and asked us to join them here for a 4-day stay over an early June long weekend, and we didn't regret it. Lovely room with windows straight onto the lake, big comfortable room and beds, quiet apart from the waves slapping on the piers below us, tastefully decorated, great breakfasts on the first floor breakfast terrace - also looking straight onto the lake, and Gian the owner and his wife were just so friendly and helpful. Gian's sense of humour is a genuine treat too, and for us non-Italian speakers his English is excellent. The hotel's got about 20 rooms, spread over several floors in a fine old traditional lakeside building - high ceilings, thick walls, lots of light, a lift to save your legs. And Gargnano is just the loveliest small town on the lake, with the main road running inland so the traffic noise is well behind you. The little harbour's all of 50 metres away, a choice of Italian ice cream bars within a stone's throw, several fine restaurants in walking distance, parking 200 metres away & convenient. What more can you ask?

Room Tip: Ask for one of the rooms with a lake view - a bit pricier, but well worth it - though the view onto...

The hotel is situated in a small working village so you get a nice mix of tourists and locals. The rooms are adequate, comfortable and clean. The owners are very friendly and helpful - in our case providing some wine glasses for us, lending us a book on the area, explaining some things we saw and didn't understand, providing a free upgrade as room was free, etc. The wi-fi is of good quality. The continental breakfast is very good and included Muesli which most places I stayed at in Italy didn't have. It is served on the hotels terrace which is really the hotel's trump card - a large area with an excellent view of the lake. It is a bit of a drag that the parking is a few minutes walk away but if it wasn't the town would be full of cars all the time and not such a pleasent place. I recommend this place to all fellow travelers who enjoy friendly and modest hotels at reasonable prices.

Tip - the Pizaria below hotel is fine and the cafe next to pizaria is very good for cakes or drinks.
