We ate here one evening in September having decided to dine somewhere rather special during our stay in Gargnano. The location is marvellous being right on the lake and the restaurant, part of the Baia D'oro Hotel, is both charming and elegantly decorated. Despite having no reservation we were greeted warmly by our host and were shown to a well positioned table on the terrace. The service was attentive without being intrusive and the maître d' checked our table a number of times throughout the meal to see that all was in order. Our food was delightful but not outstanding and the accompanying wine entirely acceptable. All in all I would say that the experience was satisfying although expensive for what it was. We had similar cuisine at other restaurants in the neighbourhood for far less cost. So is the Baia D'Oro overpriced? Maybe a little, but we were made to feel welcome, we were treated, as another viewer said, like royalty, and our surroundings were a cut above many others. I wouldn't want to eat here every night but for a special occasion it's probably worth the extra expense.
