“A Wonderful Experience”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

If want a extremely wonderful BandB experience, you should book this B&B. Sylvie and Jean Phillipe will make your trip to the the wine country memorable. The house is well situated and beautiful. Try to take advantage of the pool. After a day of sightseeing, it was so refreshing! Also, you must take advantage of the dinner that they offer. You will not be disappointed. The food was excellently presented, and the company was warm and entertaining. It was probably the best B&B that we have ever stayed. Jean Phillipe made us feel at home, even though we don't speak French. He helped map out our winery tour, and even offered me a GPS to use. I could go on and on about how great Les Potins du Four was.

Sylvie and Jean-Philippe are a lovely welcoming couple - who believe that good food and wine are the mainstay of a good life!

The pool looked nice, but we ran out of time to use it after our long drive. We were luckily in time for dinner, which turned out to be just us and the hosts (the other guests were dinning with family locally), but with the aid of some interesting pre dinner drinks and and english to french dictionary we managed to cover a great deal of topics and crack some jokes.

Our room was very large - as was the bed, and the bathroom was big, airy and very clean. There was a hairdryer and a socket in the bathroom, and the shower was hot and plentiful.

The house is in a hamlet, so although the parking isn't secure, there just isn't anyone around anyway - so we felt more than happy leaving things in the car overnight.

Dinner was tasty and plentiful (Sylvie is a great cook), and they use a lot of local produce and everything is cooked from scratch. Breakfast was bread with lots of home made preserves, and home made cake - all very nice. Tea is Lipton Yellow - or a selection of herbals - no English Breakfast, so bring your own bags if that's what you want.

We were made to feel very much at home - and were encouraged to practice our french - which is always good. If we are ever in this part of France again we would return for at least another night.

The hosting couple was amazingly friendly and willing to tell about the area and wine production. I recommend to have the dinner with them, if ever possible. We really felt like being guests at their home and the food was great and very much worth the price. I'm will remember very long, if not forever, our stay there and the stories they told about the village and its history.

We stayed here as a stopover on our way to the south of France, it was a perfect choice. The family room was tastefully decorated and very clean. The kids loved the swimming pool with views of the hills and vineyards.
The evening meal with our hosts and other guests was very nice, and it has encouraged us to improve our French.
We were offered the chance to go wine tasting before dinner, which would have been very nice but we was too tired -maybe next time.
We would thoroughly recommend Les Potins du Four.
Many thanks

My wife and I stayed one night with two friends on a short tour through Beaujolais country. None of us had been to this part of France before. The journey from Lyon airport took one hour and despite the grey skies we were being increasingly charmed by the scenery as we approached Quincie (pronounced Kwan-see-ay). What a lovely surprise it was to discover that Les Potins was even prettier than it looked on their website.
Our experience of meeting Sylvie and Jean-Philippe was exactly as other reviewers had described, incredibly warm and friendly. We had booked an evening meal with them, and given the lateness of our arrival, within minutes of unpacking we were being offered an array of homemade aperetifs. This was followed by a delicious four-course meal, all made with fresh ingredients by Sylvie. The price included an endless supply of chilled beaujolais and the meal concluded with coffee and a selection of Jean-Phillippe's home made liquers. But what made this experience so special was that Sylvie and Jean-Phillippe ate with us and in no time at all it felt like a dinner party with old friends. Our hosts spoke very good English and this combined with our schooldays French led to very lively and amusing conversations. We could not believe it when we realised it was after midnight.
The following morning we awoke to bright sunlight and fabulous views across the surrounding vineyards and hills. Over breakfast we discussed with J-P our plans for a scenic route to the medieval town of Oingt. He duly provided us with a map, stopping points, guide notes and lots of travel suggestions.
Every turn in the road led to sensational views, picturesque towns and villages and for virtually the entire day we felt as if we were in our own private theme park. The roads were empty, the towns quiet, the people welcoming. J-P told us the area was called the “Golden stones” (pierre dorées), and indeed the buildings were beautiful. Everywhere was spotlessly clean, immaculate municipal flower displays and of course endless opportunities to taste the local wine. We had so many favourite places but we did particularly enjoy Oingt and Vaux-en-Beaujolais (aka Clochemerle).
It was an idyllic day and we can't wait to repeat the experience. The only sad part was that we were not returning to Les Potins.
Staying with Sylvie and J-P was a unique experience and we are already discussing a return visit. I thoroughly recommend the Beajolais region and Les Potins as a base for exploring it. Les Potins would also be ideal as a stopping point on a journey between North France and the South Coast. It could easily be combined with a trip to Lyon. If you are travelling by car it's an ideal place to stock up with wine!

My partner and I spent a lovely 2 nights at les potins du four. On arrival we were greeted by our friendly, warm hosts, sylvie and Jean-phillipee. We sat chatting with them over a glass of local wine they offered on arrival. The setting is perfect, it has a lovely garden and even pool...though due to the strange rainy weather we had we couldn't enjoy this, but sitting out at the outdoor table sipping wine it was lovely. And our room exceeded our expectations, so clean, modern yet very tasteful,we were very comfortable there. We also opted to have the table d'hotes that sylvie offered and were so glad we did! What a night, we were offered homemade appertif which were delicious, followed by a delicious meal made by slyvie and perfect wine, but what made this night special was chatting with sylvie and Jean-phillipee about anything and everything. So to sum up, the area that this b and b is in is stunning....vineyards outside the window, beautiful scenery all around, great area for picking up wine of course, and the perfect hosts. We will be recommending to our friends!!!

Thank you both for a special stay in Beaujolais

My Partner and I stayed for 4 Nights. The en-suite Room & Breakfast were all we could wish for. The Pool and Terrace made for a relaxing location. Our lovely hosts Sylvie & Jean-Phillipe made us feel completely at home and to dine (twice !!) with them was special. Their english was excellent, and their help in suggesting places to visit and arrange Restaurants & Wine-tastings was invaluable. A great base for touring the Cru Villages of Beaujolais.

I knew I loved the local Wine before visiting but now I have fallen in love with the people and the area. Can`t wait to visit again - hopefully in a larger party. Mike & Sandy
