If you want to experience an English local country pub then you can't go wrong here. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was great and breakfast huge. It is a great.base for exploring the Dorset area. The only issue we had was our room was noisy until late at night.

Room Tip: If you don't like a shower over the bath then avoid room 3.

Friendly atmosphere. Excellent and accommodating staff. First class meal(s)! Good wine list We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very well fitted out room, with good use of natural materials. Suggestion: more surfaces in bedrooms!

As an aside, for all hotels, and as a regular reviewer, can't we start a movement to eliminate the dreaded 'retained' hangers in hotel wardrobes?! They're a nightmare to deal with in enclosed spaces. How nice to come across 'real' hangers occasionally (though not here)! surely there can't be that many hanger thefts - can there?

this was a short stay to celebrate our 48th wedding anniversary, and what a find !. we stayed in room 1, a lovely comfortable large room, with a settee. Breakfast was wonderful, and everything that you could wish for, homemade bread, jams, etc. We ate all three nights in the restaurant and enjoyed every meal. The pub team have a passion for what they do, and are very friendly and make you feel relaxed. we did not want for anything from our stay that was not there, but i had the feeling that if i had wanted something special, they would have made every effort to supply it. We will be going back in the future, well done team

Room Tip: Room 1 is very good, slight fan noise from the kitchen below, but this is a pub.

More like home than a pub with rooms, The Stapleton Arms is an absolute gem in the heart of beautiful Dorset countryside with far-reaching views across the valley.
Our rooms were comfortable, clean, tastefully furnished and well-appointed.
Breakfast is served in the bar and is very informal in keeping with the relaxed atmosphere that prevails here. The bread is homemade and the cooked food excellent - eggs were perfectly cooked whether fried, scrambled or boiled with soldiers!
We also had dinner in the restaurant on Friday and Saturday. The menu is short but very interesting and everything sounded mouth-watering to us. The dishes we chose were beautifully cooked and presented, service was attentive and at no point did we feel under pressure so we had 2 beautifully paced and relaxing meals. On Saturday the chef came to the table for a chat which is always a good sign in my opinion.
The kitchen also made us a lovely picnic for 4 on Saturday (happily catering for my wife's food allergy) and this was as lovely as all the other food we enjoyed here over the weekend.
The open plan bar is comfortably and tastefully furnished and has a charming ambience. There is an excellent range of ales and ciders and the bar food menu is good too. It must be lovely here in winter when the fire is lit!
Lastly, a word about the staff. I read a previous review about the staff being scruffy and too casual in attitude and appearance. If you come here - and I recommend you do - you should remember this is a country pub with rooms and restaurant. You won't get silver service with an immaculately attired maitre d'. - if that's what you are after, book in to a 5 star hotel and pay the extra! But you will get very friendly, cheerful, helpful, knowledgeable and hard-working staff who will ensure your stay is relaxing and enjoyable.
Thanks for a great weekend!

Beautiful rooms, great food, lovely atmosphere, professional staff in a quiet village. Only a few rooms so book ahead and they don't open over Christmas. Kids welcome with a giant connect 4 in garden and playing field with half basketball court behind. Lovely big open fire in the winter.

We arrived after 25 plus hours of plane and the additional drive from Gatwick. Bless our GPS that we put on 'short' mode so we could enjoy back road and the beautiful countryside. Stopped at Winchester on the way.
The Stapelton Arms is a perfect little pub hotel, we loved the feeling of being part of the crowd. Out jet lagged disappeared overnight certainly because the bed and linen are so comfy and also it is really quiet. The towels and bathroom are great. And they organised a sofa bed for our daughter. The breakfast is delicious and they have other options than the usual English breakie for the non meat eaters. The diners were really delicious with lots of options. We used the hotel as our base to explore the coast, country, visit River Cottage HQ in Axminster and even did a day in Dartmoor tramping. Highly recommend

We arrived on a warm summer evening to this pretty pub deep in the countryside. Its popular! The place was humming with people in the restaurant, bar and garden. There was a sort of quiet, laid back excitement - a really pleasant atmosphere. The welcome was great and the stay was really enjoyable. The room was beautifully decorated, comfortable, and clean. The breakfast was delicious. The oak tables and chairs, and tiled + wooden floors made as lovely a venue for breakfast in the morning as they did for enjoying the bar on the previous evening. Thank you for a lovely stay.
