Myself and my hubby came here for a relaxing afternoon, on arrival we were seated and filled forms out, then staff seemed to have vanished for a while leaving us just waiting there and it running into the time we had booked we were still waiting.
While waiting it was like a scene from faulty towers furniture was getting moved in front of our very eyes some with drawer pieces some with the drawer unit all very strange ha why not choose to do that when it’s closed or quiet.
Finally we got shown around and were down into the depths of a maze of a place.
The spa shares its facilities with the gym so it’s quite a strange experience as you can’t overly relax or get dressed in peace as it’s full of lots of gym people, especially in the changing room.
We were shown where we were going to eat our lunch.
It’s just gets brought straight out to you on a wooden platter.
You don’t get to choose what you want it’s just what they give you.
Lunch very basic but pleasant enough.
The relaxation rooms are very uncomfortable beds that are low and hard.
There is a hot drinks machine which is nice but after lots of heat Eg the sauna etc more cold drinks would be more pleasant.
The cold drinks and in the fridge were however empty and were not refilled once while we were there despite staff walking past the fridge many times.
For the price you pay for the packages there isn’t a awful lot to do here.
A sauna which is small and gets cramped when lots of gym users use it.
A steam room which is tatty and barely works.
The swimming pool again was full with gym users so we couldn’t really use it.
The jacuzzi was nice but basic and tatty.
Infact the whole place is basic and tatty it needs a whole refurbish to be fair.
We had the mud treatment which is deceitful on the brochure my husband booked it showed a treatment in a mud bath.... don’t be fooled the mud temple is where you rub moisturiser and different muds in a dark steam room.
It times you and lights come on for different stages for putting different muds or moisturiser on then finishing with a shower.
So yes kind of relaxing but not how we imagined.
We got bored so left two hours early after our treatment there is only so much hot drink you can drink and everything is so squashed and claustrophobic that everywhere you turn someone is right next to you staring at you so no you can’t relax.
I suggest you try somewhere else as it’s not worth the price tag.
Basil faulty you need to update the hotel ha!
Staff pleasant though and friendly.
Slippers bath towel and robe provided for treatment.

I would like to thank all the staff for making our mother and daughter weekend just wonderful. Nothing was too much trouble and the standard of treatments in the spa to the food served in the restaurant were all superb. Great value for money.
Thankyou

Our hearts sank as we drove up the drive - the surroundings were horrible - situated in a run down area behind a petrol station. And the trip just carried on being disappointing. We kept hoping something would be sufficiently good for us to think it even vaguely worth the money we paid. If they were charging about a quarter of the price, it would have been ok but at such a premium price for a spa break, we expected a luxurious hotel. Instead we found a run down, tatty, ugly hotel, horrible fields with broken fences and ugly all around. The best view was of the back of the petrol station. The spa was just a glorified waiting room, where you could sit around waiting for your treatment. Our beauty therapist arrived late and finished early so our treatment was only just over half the length it was meant to be. The steam room was a joke - a slimy small room with no steam. The jacuzzi was small but ok, the pool was old, slimy and dirty. The gym was small and dingy. Our room was pokey and dark. Inspite of the huge upfront charge, if you chose several of the choices e.g. salmon for dinner, there was an extra charge, or steak etc. Salmon only costs £2 for a fillet at Waitrose, so why an extra charge was needed on top of hugely premium prices for our break, I don’t know. It just seemed mean. In a nutshell, it is an old, run down, has-been hotel which is ugly and small and has limited, grotty facilities but it is being marketed as a luxury spa. If you go ahead, be prepared to feel ripped off and very disappointed. Marketing this hotel as a luxury country hotel and spa is very misleading. I can only assume that the newspapers that reveiw this hotel as a luxury spa have never actually been to it. Feel cheated.

I visited here with the group of hens, having paid £85 for the vixen package. The staff were lovely on arrival, very helpful and friendly. The spa facilities massively let this place down. The hotel is very tired and in need of an update of the spa facilities. The layout of the spa was confusing and there was no real flow. For the price paid I was massively disappointed in the not so relaxing spa facilities, a complete lack of attention to detail all over the spa.. brown paint splattered on the white ceiling from a poor paint job, rusty door on the entry to the pool, dirty steam room and laminated poorly designed signs that made the facilities feel very cheap.

The treatment was great, incredibly relaxing and again the staff were lovely. Lunch was nice but again for the price ideally you’d expect a little more.

Overall it was ok, but sadly I wouldn’t return.

I stayed at this hotel for the first time so was a bit apprehensive. I usually stay in the holiday inn in Taunton but thought I would try the Cleve as fed up with those types of hotels. Cost was roughly the same
I won’t be staying at the holiday Inn again as the Cleve was outstanding. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
The room was cosy and comfy. The food was excellent value for money and very tasty. Breakfast was awesome.
The gym was great too with lots of equipment.
