“The only good thing is its distance from the airport.”
Reviewed September 27, 2013

Idea Hotel at Malpensa Milano Airport is an old building poorly renovated that from outside seems luxurious but inside its rooms, everything is filthy and rotten. The walls are peeling from the moisture, the A/C isn't working at all, the noise from the fountains outside and the chapel are nerve-wrecking and it doesn't actually have free Wi-Fi as it says, other than 3 computers for the public in the lobby that you have to wait to see if anyone is free so that you can to be able to check your mail there. If you need extra wi-fi you have to pay it and If you want to watch tv, you have to pay it extra too. The towels were dirty and seemed used and the only thing that was actually as it was supposed, was the breakfast and the distance from terminal 1 and 2.

Unfortunately this hotel is a huge beacon of false advertising. Service was poor, rooms were dirty, communal areas we're run down, location in terms of locality to anything other than the airport was terrible, I could think of no reason why anyone would want to stay here.

When we arrived we were given a room key that didn't work, after 3 trips back to reception we finally gained access to room number 8 that can only be described as dirty, damp, cold prison cell. The air con could not be adjusted and was stuck on the coolest setting, it was freezing, the walls had visible patches of damp, the shower curtain track was broken and hanging off the wall, there was a large chunk of broken glass on the bottom of the wardrobe that could of cut us if we touched it, the double glazing window did not work there was no way to open it. If you decide to stay here, avoid room 8 like the plague.

After we dropped our bags and had a look around we decided room 8 was not acceptable and requested that we are moved to a clean room, at first we were told there was no other rooms and it was only because we were persistent that we were offered another room, to make matters worse the reception staff seem to know that room 8 was disgusting which made us feel like second class people, if the condition of room 8 could get any worse we were told that the air conditioning in room 8 couldn't be adjusted until 11pm so we would have to be cold until then, it was broken and they knew about it.

Avoid this hotel, some staff are rude, the rooms are dirty and run down, the location is poor, and as a final note there is a clock tower that chimes every 30 minutes right outside, that wakes you up because both rooms we were shown had broken windows that could not be closed properly.

The only reason you should be staying at this hotel is because you have an early morning flight. The shuttle is available, but can be full, so count on paying 20 Euro for a taxi, and then you won't be disappointed if you can't get on it. We took the Malpensa express bus from city center Milan, and the hotel shuttle picked us up at the same spot it dropped us off at the International terminal. Very convenient. It only runs on the hour at night, so try to time your arrival around that. If you leave before the breakfast buffet, they will give you a bag of snacks, but it's nothing special. The restaurant was ok and convenient. Nearly every guest ate there because there isn't anything within walking distance- you really are right at the runway. There's an annoying church bell that rings every half hour, so you need to sleep with windows closed. The shower was great. The beds were super comfortable. Too bad you have to pay for wifi, and the computers downstairs are often incredibly slow if you're checking something on the internet, but they are free. Lots of channels compared to other places we stayed in Italy.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back if church bells keep you awake

Too many complains on the air conditioning in the last couple of comments. We stayed there in mid September. There was a problem with the air conditioning the rooms were cold freezing without an option to turn off the air conditioning not to change the temperature. The hotel ran out of the blankets and they could not offer anything to keep us worm during the night.

This was an awful night! Could hardly sleep in such cold.

Once the air conditioning problems would be solved this could be a nice hotel to stay in.

If you have a rental car this is a good place to stay in as it is just couple of minutes away from the airport. Otherwise, check other reviews to see more details on problems with the shuttle.

If you arrive at night, keep in mind many of the people on night flights are checking in and do expect a 30 min line at the reception...

Used this hotel prior to flying out of Milan. Went to the airport by Metro. Needed a taxi to get to Hotel from Airport.
Very noisy hotel, when someone closed a door the bed head wall shook. Plane noise not an issue, just the internal noise.
No WiFi, no Tea & Coffee in the room, pay machine adjacent to lobby.
Associated restaurant excellent.
Shuttle bus from hotel to airport needs to be booked in advance.

i booked the hotel because I had an early morning flight and needed to stay close to the Malpensa airport (which is the only advantage of this hotel..)
I checked in and when got to the room it was smelling very badly from cigarettes.
After they switched the room, I got to the new room and realized it was hell freezing. when I tried to switch off the air con, it didn't work, then went again to the reception, they told me they can't to anything, that's how it is.
The rooms are very basic and not clean at all. (not like in pictures at all).
The food and service in the restaurant is very bad as well.
I was very disappointed and happy that I had to leave early in the morning.
Although the price is fair, it's not value for money.

We stayed their the night before we flew due to flight times. Very glad we did, very clean, spacious room and spotless large bathroom. Very reasonably prices and good selection at Breakfast time and offers a free shuttle bus to both terminals at Malpensa.
