“Spectacular gardens”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

Nice to walk around the palazzo, but the gardens are the real gem. Beautiful, unusual and huge shell fountain in the garden. Lovely to see the white peacocks too. You've got to visit Isola Bella when you are in Lake Maggiore. Nice little cafes and restaurants on the island too. And if you want to take some touristy souvenirs home, this is the place to get them.

“Worth Visiting”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

Although dominated by stalls peddling tacky tourist “gifts”, Isola Bella is still worth a visit which should be culminated with a slow walk around the gardens of the Borromeo Palace and refreshment at their garden café. The obligatory trip around the house (palace??) to get to the gardens as part of the ticket price (€12?) is uninspiring, but the charge is worth access to see the gardens.

Ferries are available as a “3 island Rover” package or, for an additional €10 on top of The Lake Maggiore Express excursion (another “must do”!), you can tour the islands the day before or after the “mountain & lake trip”

Tickets are available from the main tourist office at the main Stresa ferry terminal, but I would advise that you use the small independent tourist office on the other side of the road directly opposite where you will get a more friendly, detailed and personal service. As the official Tourist Information is financed by the local government it does not support many attractions further afield.

“The name says it all, beautiful island”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

We visited Isola Bella and Pescatori on Isola Superiore by local taxi boat. It cost 10 euros for the trip and we were shown where to park for free by the guide.

Entry into the palace and gardens on Isola Bella cost extra and it was well worth the money. It is a spectacular palace, especially the throne room and the gardens are weird, wacky and beautiful all at the same time.

We saw the white peacocks, they are quite tame and like to frequent the area near the cafe.

“A must if you're near Lago Maggiore”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

We passed about 2 hours visiting the island's garden and palace. Everything is well kept and we really enjoyed ourselves. We bought a ticket to visit Isola Bella and Isola Madre together since it's more worth it.

“Beautiful in all seasons”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

I have visited the palace and gardens several times, in winter and in summer time, and it is always beautiful. The guided visit is recommended, although the guide usually does not explain the crucial event that took place here - the Stresa Conference of 1935. The very special place, nothing like it in the world.
