Locanda Le Boscarecce
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed August 1, 2012

To be honest, I was a little dubious of the reviews of Le Boscarecce - it couldn't be that good, could it? Well it is - Susanna is a gem of a host, welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. Her staff are extremely friendly and efficient.

The location is excellent - you can easily make day trips to all the major Tuscan towns, but ask Susanna for her tips - we would never of got to Vinci (where there is a great Leonardo museum) without her help nor would we have got to sample olive oil or tuscan wines first hand...

The food in the evenings was an unexpected bonus - our kids ate everything (quite unusual!)

The pool is great and the table football was well used by my son ;o)

Ciao ciao Susanna!

La Boscarecce run by the amazingly kind, helpful, generous, fun and incredibly knowledgeable Susannah offers a peaceful rural home just outside Castelfiorentino. If you are looking for a relaxed and informal accommodation, with lovely views towards the countryside, pretty gardens filled with flowers and fruit trees which is family friendly then this is an excellent spot from which to explore the many towns and sites of the area. Susannah provides a very reasonably priced 4 course evening dinner at €22 per head each evening, with the menu being available to view at breakfast. We were lucky to be staying when Susannah prepared a Pizza evening, giving guests the opportunity to try at least 12 different pizzas including 2 sweet ones all cooked in her wood fired pizza oven. This was exceptional and so very delicious. Breakfast was excellent with delicious fresh berries in yoghurt, home cooked pastries, biscuits, eggs, cheeses and cold meats, fruits and yoghurts. The old Medieval town of Certaldo is a short drive away, offering a number of excellent eateries. Susannah is an amazing host, one of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet, she is kind, patient and knowledgeable giving friendly suggestions as to what you might like to do having understood the kind of people, likes and dislikes you may have. We stayed in Dorothy Parker room furnished with pretty painted furniture, it was spacious and had a large shared outside terrace with the other 2 nearby rooms.

We booked a package with Simply Travel and all was faultless apart from a long wait for the hire car which has been mentioned by others. We were delighted with Le Boscarecce from the moment we arrived, Susanna and her team fully understand the meaning of Hospitality - warm welcome, great service, needs anticipated, wonderful surroundings, good food. All these were there in abundance! Susanna helped us plan our days meticulously with maps, train times, gallery bookings and all went smoothly, we thoroughly enjoyed our trips to Florence, Sienna, San Giminano and Vinci. The B&B was spotlessly clean and comfortable, gorgeous views from the restaurant, lovely gardens and nice pool. We had dinner a couple of times and the food was excellent, breakfast was good though simple.
A couple of recommendations, for nervous drivers - the road up from Castelfiorentino is challenging, very twisty, steep and then unpaved for a while, we got used to it after a few days,
but wished we'd had a car with a slightly bigger engine! If you are a light sleeper ask for a room at the back as there is there is a frog in the pond which is capable of ear shattering song at untimely hours of the night and morning!! I had no idea such a small creature could make such an incredible sound, woke me up a few times and I am quite a heavy sleeper. :) That aside highly recommended!

We spent six days in July at this very friendly hotel.
Our host Susanna helped us tremendously when planning our daytrips - she has a map and directions for all nearby attractions / sights.
Her home cooked Tuscan food is delicious and the rooms are clean and spacious.
We were sorry to leave at the end of our stay.

We stayed here for 6 nights in June and would return at the drop of a hat! The hotel was delightful - good rooms and lovely grounds full of flowers and fruit trees. Our room got the morning sun, but by evening was lovely and cool when we went to bed.A lovely touch was the bowl of freshly picked cherries and homemade biscuits in our room on arrival. Susanna was a marvellous hostess - greeting you with a cheerful smile, full of handy hints and tips when you had decided where you wanted to go that day. She organised a trip to a local vineyard for wine and olive oil tasting - Agricola Tamburini - which was a joy. She cooked wonderful evening meals, so good we forgot any idea of eating out in the evenings. Much better to sit with a mean G & T made by Giuliano (who remembers just what you like and how you like it!) and watch the sunset before lazing over supper with stunning views over the countryside! There is loads to see within easy reach - if you don't lie in too long you can do a sightseeing morning then get back mid-afternoon to lie by the pool and recuperate before supper. Thank you Susanna - we hope to visit you again! PS - hope the frog is well!

Room Tip: Our room (it may have been Dorothy Parker?) was perfect - cool in the evening to aid restful sleep a...

Dear Snowy6491,
Many thanks for your review. And Julian thank you as well because he is sure you prefer his J&T to mine!
You were very special guests and I really espect that you come back sometimes!
The frog she is very well especially starting when they became 2 frogs.
I have in mind to do a kind of competition between past and present guests. If you would like to partecipate you need only to send us a funny drawing of the frog and it will be a 3 days stay free at Le Boscarecce for the best frog!
Love

Exceptional hospitality and helpfulness from host Susanna. Peaceful elevated away-from-it-all location with lovely rural views. Spacious, comfortable room. Very good honest food, incorporating many Tuscan specialities, all well-served. Excellent location for visiting all well-known Tuscan sights, but if you want to see less well-known places, Susanna has plenty of suggestions - just ask and she will oblige with places you are not likely to find out about without her local knowledge. We had 2 weeks at Le Boscarecce and did something different every day.
You will need a car (our package with Simply Travel included one - no problems). If visiting Florence, would recommend using train from nearby Castelfiorentino - quick and easy.

We spent 5 wonderful relaxing days in this beautiful small friendly hotel in the heart of the Tuscan countryside. The staff were extremely helpful and Susanna is a font of knowledge regarding things to do and places to see in the area. This is not a luxurious venue but the bedrooms are spacious and charming, the bar area is small and homely and the small restaurant has incredible views. The grounds including a well maintained pool are beautiful. An evening meal, which can be booked on the day, is a set 4 course menu which varies daily and consists of wonderful local dishes. Definitely a highlight not to be missed!! The only small complaint we had was the absence of inexpensive local wines from the wine list. We would have no hesitation in recommending this gem and are already anticipating a return visit.

Dear Sandra M,
many thanks for your nice reviews. We really like to make people happy!
About the wine :we do not like to have cheap wine as very often cheap means not good, we think that it is better to have a very good glass of wine instead of a bottle of ordinary quality. Anyway after your observation we put in the list a 'house wine' a Chianti in the caratteristic Tuscan flask at a very good price.
Hoping to welcome you again in our home we send you our warmest regards
Susanna
