We are staying in the very small and exquisite village of Sougraigne, (pop. 100 plus donkeys) for the whole of August and what better way to spend the evening, we thought, than sitting in the beautiful local hotel/restaurant tasting their renowned cuisine. Book early we were told, so on the first day of our stay we called at the restaurant and were told 'non'.
'Any day in August?' ......................'Non'
'Any time of day?'...........................'Non'
'How about if we ring in the morning?'................. shrug, so we did and guess what!
The above conversations were carried out in very passable French, but we got the feeling that either a) we ran over their cat on the way in to the village, b) they don't care too much for Les Anglais c) they are in fact very exclusive.
So, location is fantastic, ambience fantastic, reputation fantastic but the food? Please someone get in there and post a review as we have given up. We can only watch enviously as people go into the restaurant, which by the way did I mention isn't always full, we peaked, whilst eating a sandwhich and cursing our nationality.
