Having read other reviews I was a little apprehensive about this resort. The comments suggested that it was in serious need of of re-furbishment. Well perhaps this may be true but everything we experienced more than compensated for this. Firstly, as every reviewer has noted, the location is simply stunning. Perfect beach (although rather coarse gravel sand); lovely unspoilt surrounding hills and dramatic coloured granite coastal cliffs and caves nearby.
The GO staff at this ClubMed were all very welcoming, helpful and efficient, making for an excellent holiday experience. My wife and I sailed 5 times each in the well-organised catamaran fleet. We did some archery and snorkelled off the rocks at on end of the beach. The water was beautifully warm and crystal clear enabling us to see several species of fish at very close quarters. Having snorkelled all over the world in the past, we were well aware that the Mediterranean has no colourful coral fish but despite this, we enjoyed what we saw.
I played some tennis and had a couple of group lessons at the extensive school with its many courts. My wife went horse-riding at a nearby stables with a group and would have gone on a ride that takes the horses into the sea on beach ride if time would have permitted. She also did some sea kayaking. (Note that we enjoyed all these activities despite being many years past retirement age !)
The food was more or less up to the usual Club Med standard apart from several of the meat dishes that were tough and chewy. We also didn't eat much fish because it was often overcooked. The desserts and cheeses were good but long queues for ice-cream.
Evening entertainment was as expected; rather amateurish and too loud for our generation to enjoy. We didn't stay up long for it on any evening.
We were very lucky to have a room in the lower part of the resort. Some rooms require a massive climb up many steps to reach them from the beach-side restaurant, pool or tennis courts. Only the archery site is high up the hill with these rooms.
The one thing that I knew to expect was that the composition of the guests would be mainly French parents, grandparents and children. In fact we only met three other couples who were not French speakers; one charming couple from London where the man was Australian and his wife Dutch with their two lovely children and two other couples from USA and Italy respectively. I was able to practice my schoolboy French with many wonderful others. Everyone was very friendly despite the language barrier.
Finally, the weather helped. We had the most perfect week with constant blue skies and day temps between 27 and 32 degrees C. Luckily it cooled off a bit at night because there are no air-conditioners in the rooms. Amazingly we saw not a single mosquito or fly. In fact the whole area appeared rather devoid of land or air animals of any kind - quite strange.
We also took one half-day excursion by boat to see the rocks, cliffs and grottoes. It was well worth it and highly recommended
Next time we will take our grandchildren as many of the French did. It is a fantastic place for a seaside holiday
