Went away for a romantic weekend, and paid over a £100 each night for this room. The hotel is based on a main road and very noisy from outside. A party in one of the bars downstairs went on till about 3am in morning! Room service was ordered and paid for on the first morning and never arrived, the manager didnt seem to be bothered about this. The room was awful - Two bulbs had gone, a light switch didnt work, the bed rolled when you sat on it, the shower had four switches none of them labelled, the taps fell off the bath, no batteries in the tv remote and rubbish was in the bin when we arrived in the room. The staff did not seem intrested at all! All round a nightmare, would never stay here or recommend this hotel to anyone. Their website and photos looked good on the internet but be aware, its not all as it seems.

I stayed in one of the world rooms (Africa). The decor is an aquired taste. The bathroom has both bath and separate shower. The room is a big with bunks in a separte space round as well as a comfortable King bed. Its little bit tatty, not least because I would guess some of the various animals in the room have been poked at by small children at some point and the masks on the wall could be offputting in the wrong light. There is some noise as this room overlooks the busy roundabout and it has a pump for the water tank nearby so there is some disturbance.

The public areas are looking a bit tired but are being painted now so that's to the good.

The food in both the (child friendly) pub and separate resturant is excellent, much better than you would normally expect of a hotel and the service is efficient and friendly . Lots of local meat dishes. Not much on the menu for vegetarians but the chef was happy to cook veggie specials with a little warning.

We had an executive double room which was small, comfortable but not executive. Steps up to enter the room and then steps down into the bathroom, could be dangerous for a bathroom trip in the middle of the night! En-suite shower over the bath, powerful and plenty of very hot water. Complimentary toiletries. Enormous fluffy, thick white towels. Shower screen was missing the rubber bottom so quite a bit of water ended up on the floor. The bedroom furniture was standard IKEA type. Plenty of sockets and good lighting over the mirror. Small flat screen wall mounted TV, quite a distance from the bed so hard to see properly. Plentiful selection of complimentary tea/coffee/biscuits/water. We had our evening meal in The Cellar. We thought the bar area was comfortable and very ambient, large leather sofas and a fire. The menu choice was good & food tasty, we had the soup and squid followed by slow cooked belly of pork and liver. Nicely presented and hot plates. The service was friendly and efficient. There were about 20 other diners in thee restaurant. I liked the innovative wine list – you actually went into a wine cellar and chose from the shelf. The breakfast was excellent, a choice of cereals, yogurt, fresh fruit, pastries and cheeses. Plenty of fresh coffee and tea choices. The cooked breakfast was most definitely fresh and the poached eggs were perfect and the toast hot – maybe they have a new chef so previous reviewers were unfortunate! The hotel is located 'under' the A55 so rooms at the front/side could be noisy - we were at the back overlooking car park & gardens, slept with the window open and experienced no noise. The public areas of the hotel are slightly worn and tired but I thought it was excellent value at £44 B & B and at this price I would return.

We stayed here 5 years ago when it was the new place to stay and eat, to stay at the top of the list one needs to keep investing in your people and buildings, we don’t think any of this has been done since our last visit. The place and people all look worn out and tired.
We met friends for dinner in the cellar restaurant, we were the only table they had for the whole night, (this was Easter Friday) which is very sad. My food was fine but my wife said everyone else’s food really was not up to standard. We made our own atmosphere, as the only table it could have been a disaster. Breakfast was embarrassing poached egg on toast was just that, one sad little over cooked egg in the middle of a dry piece of toast.
In the morning I told reception there was a broken bottle in the entrance to the car park, two hours later I picked up the broken glass myself so I could leave without puncturing my tyres!
I understand its catch 22, if no one is coming to your establishment you have no profit to invest, but if you do not invest no one will come!

Travelled here recently with a colleague to visit clients. We had dinner in the Chestnut pub and restaurant. The food was well cooked and of high quality. I had a steak which was cooked perfectly rare as requested and served piping hot. The wine list, though small, was reasonably priced and of good quality. A good, relaxed eating environment and good value for money too.

Then there's the hotel.

My room was large with two king sized beds, but with very dim lights and strange themeing - with stripes of red, orange and green. It was also quite cold as the staff had not thought to turn on the radiator and a strange TV set-up requiring two remotes to make it work. The small sash window was frosted on the bottom half, in the morning I could see why, the view was of a very untidy and dirty back yard, leading on to the fly-over, so no chance of opening the window. The bathroom was large with a reasonable shower, but once again cold as the heating had not been turned on. Breakfast was ok, but the bacon was hard and tough as if it had been cooked previously.

All in all, a good restaurant spoiled by a mediocre hote. More attention to detail and this could be a pleasant place stay
